They just stopped for a while because that is the first war of that scale in nearest millenia and they were all quite shocked when they saw what the war becomed with usage of long-range artillery, gas attacks and concentration camps. You stare at the ceiling and dream of your future. You see some gold you earned by honest toil, you see the University gates open before you. They're all cheering at you. Than you hold a red diploma in your hands and shke it victoriously above your head. Ahh, that would be nice.

 - We need food and arms first, that is for sure. I suggest trying to become sellswords for a while. Let's return to nearest town and try to get equipment in legal way. For that, I need to know our total funds. Do you have some money with you?

Dragon smashes the crowd with his destructive firebreath once more and the same moment he is covered by next volley of shots:

Shout at the elves fighting the humans to drop to a knee or get to the sides in elvish so the humans don't understand.

You shout in elvish, and most of them understand the layout.
Boom! Rifles and bows strike at once:
10 bows and 4 rifles.
3 x [1] Three shots go wide
3 x [2] Two arrows hit the walls
2 x [3] Two more arrows hit the wall
5 x [4] But five reach the hearts of men
1 x [6] One bullet pierces two soldiers at once - one of them loses his hand, other is badly wounded and hardly able to fight anymore.
In total, seven more men are standing. One of them is wielding a big blooded sledgehammer and has cuirass that protects his upper body ((Look for it's description in one of my previous posts adressed to darkpaladin))

Shout at the elves who ducked out of the way to stay low and hack at the enemies legs to bring them down again in elvish.

Have my line fire again aiming for chest or head at the same time to fire over our allies. All 4 riflemen are to target mr sledge.

You shamble around. You find a cheerful old man in sheepskin coat with pense-nez of real gold on the bridge of his nose. He is keeping a small tent where there are plently of books, clean paper, stylos ink and miscellaneous stuuf like that. No scrolls, however. When you ask for paper, stylos and ink, the old man distracts from reading one of his books and looks at you. He looks at you with a benevolent sight.
Then he collects about twenty clean sheets of paper, five stylos and a small vial of ink.
 - A Quater for all that would be reasonable. Anything else, young man?

[initiative roll: 5 vs 5 -1 for reloading turn] A few seconds of reloading gives soldiers realize the layout, too. They are now running at you and actively dodging your shots, and their sabers do not look friendly. However, you shoot'em first
Attacks for Mr. Sledge:
[d2 - success][5-1-2] That one hits the bevor - without it, a shot would go right to his throat
[d2 - fail][4-1] This one glances his huckle leaving a burnished red mark on his leg
[d2 - success][4-1-2] Bullet glances right side of his cuirass
[d2 - success][5-1-2] This shot leaves a small dent right above the heart, but his armor holds
All the shots reach their target, but they do no serious damage. However, his advance is completely stopped - from simultaneous strikes of four bulles he hits the ground by his back.
Now the others:
Flank attacks (6 elves with cold weapons)
[1+1-1] Man pushes his way through several elves, droppnig them down on the floor
[4+1-1] A knee of this man is a mass of blood - he stumbles and falls
[2+1-1] A man jumps over a low slash of one of the elves and avoids others
[6+1-1] He stumbles without any outer help and crushes his skull by a rock lying on the street. He's not a problem anymore.
[5+1-1] The man on the left side of the street gets a smash by an elf to the right of him and falls. The same elf finishes him.
[3+1-1] He stumbles while avoiding multiple attacks and now his approach speeв is significantly slowed
Two are still on their way. You shoot them with your arrows, but in a distance that short it is not very effective:
2 x [1-1-1] Two go wide
2 x [2-1-1] And two more the same way
2 x [3-1-1] Those ones hit the rocks under their feet
2 x [5-1-1] These pierce their longcoats but do not hit their bodies
2 x [6-1-1] Two arrows hit one of the men right in his chest. He falls to his knees, Boromir-style.
The last one reaches your fireline and breaks it with several wide sweeps of his saber (three sweeps, each reaches three elves; nine rolls to save (5+) from being hit):
[4] A wide red strip goes across elf's chest. He falls.
[5] [save] Used his bow to block the strike - it glanced to next unfortunate
[3] Stretched arm is force-shorted up to the ankle. A fountain of blood spits it on everyone.
[6] [save] The leftest guy - saber didn't reached him at all
[3] This one becomes busy with holding his guts inside
[2] Leg? What leg? Used to be there, you say? Now it's not.
[5] [save] Got under this swep due to his fast reaction
[6] [save] The rightest guy - did a step back right in time, Lucky bastard.
[1] Decapacitated. No comment.

Former fireline fight:
[initiative roll - 6 vs 4] El Soldato Desperado wins.
He whirls in the middle of your position like a storm of steel (the same mechanics, 2 slashes x 3 targets)
[6] [save] avoids the mess by a well-timed step back
[3] His right arm is no longer part of his body
[5] [save] Blocks attack with a dagger
[6] [save] Dodges the slash by parrying the strike with his rapier - this is a former aristocrat
[1] Divided in two halfs
[3] Collecting his guts from the floor
Time for payback.
[2] A daring lunge with a handheld bayonet pierces the place where he just stood. But he is not there now.
[2] Another lunge with rapier pierces his overoat to the left of his body
[4] A crude cut reaches his chest - a wide wound comes across it
[5] An agile young elf sneaks around him and stabs his back
[6] A rageful sweep decapacitates the body
[5] Another living gunner pierces the body with a bayonet, fixed to his rifle
[2] This guy just sees that the buisness if finished and doesn't do anything

Mr.Sledge's fight
[initiative roll - 6-2 vs 4] He is able to get up when elves get close to him. However, they're coming one by one due to different distances between them and him (seven are attacking, scheme - attack-respond)
[6 vs 6] As the first elf comes to him and sweeps his knife on him from above he blocks it with handle of the hammer and [5 vs 4] punches him in the chest, pushing him away
[2 vs 4] Second hits him from behind, but [4-2] his knife scratches the back of his cuirass
[3 vs 3] Mr sledge blocks the third person [2 vs 2] and stays in that pose
[2 vs 6] second guy attack him from behind once more and [4-2] His knife does no more harm than the previous time. He seems to be unadequate right now.
[5 vs 2] As the fourth guy approaches, Mr Sledge solves the situation with the third one - he suddenly turns around on his place and third elf hits the second, and the attack of fourth goes wide. So now all the four are in front of him.
[1 vs 2] The same moment fifth elf stabs him in the back [2-2] Not successful, though. [6 vs 1] Mr Sledge quickly makes a full-round sweep, smiting that unfortunate
[5 vs 4] Sixth guy comes from the left of Mr Sledge. Mr sledge does a low sweep and elf falls with his legs broken
[3 vs 2] Here comes the last elf. He yells an attacks from the right - Mr Sledge grins and makes a well-timed sidestep to dodge this dabbling attack.

Meanwhile, on the Square:

You examine the books. Nothing related to magedom exept a drama called "Lone Sorcerer". You pay for paper, stylos and ink and head to local small market. There you find a nice waterskin for 5 singuluses, a person who can sell you some corned beef and water (without waterskin) enough to last a week for Quater and a currier that ensures you that it may be cold out there in the mountains and generously offers you a warm sheepskin coat for 12 singuluses. Also, local weaponsmith's assortment looks temptive. What do you do?
