Thank you for this reply. It helps me very much in assessing where I am with the game and my pc. There is actually an i5 processor in my MacbookPro Retina. So thanks, I now know I should not have too much trouble - even if by miracle I would survive in this game during 2 years.  It's my first game - still learning what exactly it's all about. Just marked ingame where my first 5 workshops should be built, while reading the 'Getting.started.with.Dwarf.Fortress.pdf'.

I am a software engineer and, given the times we're in and how the software and hardware trends have shifted in the past few years, I see no reason in changing for a system that is inferior and more expensive.

And here I thought mac people were supposed to be the insufferable evangelists...
