When I was in 7th/8th grade, I loved to doodle instead of doing schoolwork. Only problem is, I have no artistic talent. The only way I could draw was if I just made crap up constantly, and it usually featured a creature called Squill. It came from a failed attempt to draw Sonic the Hedgehog's hair, then placed on top of a vaguely semicircular rodent like thing. Then I got waaay too into it and made up a whole society and caste system which ranks their social and political importance based on the number of weird prehensile spines they had on their backs. I also made up the sort of foundations for a language, and I use what I call Squillian naming conventions to get any other names I may need, my favorites being Squitange and Scyrothe.

My name is basically the name of the first character I played in Baldur's Gate
It's also a Finnish word meaning "the people", as in every citizen or member of certain nation/ethnicity/etc.

I used my own nick originally on Runescape 'bout twelve or so years ago, and it just stuck. It's a bit similar to my real name, the 'z' added for coolness factor with the number, which originally was 1. Dunno why or when it evolved into 4. *shrug*

-snip-
I always thought it was related to Kharkov/Kharkiv.
Sadly no, but I think I'm going to stress the relation of that place to my name from now on.  Damn that is cool.

Sword of the Stars, one of the best games I've ever played. (In terms of the amount of time I put into it, anyway)

P actually stands for my surname. And the whole thing turned out like this: our principal once gathered the whole class and began to speak of some organisational themes, then he began to speak of those of us, who did something remarkable recently, but he never adressed directly - he adressed us like comrade P., comrade T. and so on. But still, everyone understood about who he was talking about.

This sounds like something that might need to be turned into a Forum RPG.

I actually considered this very seriously. It was going to be a game in which the players took control of a colony of Squills after a long cryogenic hibernation. I even made a crappy map in paint, along with a portrait of the cast system. I'll go look for it, and maybe post it here if I can find it. I'm still considering starting it up.

That's pretty awesome, I had no idea it actually meant something.

It's not what you think. People generally assume my nick comes from the Diablo series, but I hadn't even touched any of them at the time.

I was a weird kid. Opening our dictionary, I happened to be in the Ms. On the page was Mephistopheles, which I thought sounded neat.

I was big into RPG World Online at the time, so I used that as my nick. It proved to be... a bit long for the purpose, so we managed to get an admin to shorten it for me. A fellow guild member wanted me to go with Mephy but, much to her displeasure, I went with Mephisto instead.

That was some good judgement on your part

I really like monosyllabic usernames like Squill, or even just any username that is very simple, and with no numbers. To me, the more simple a nickname is, the more original it seems, because names like XxSqUiLlxX suggest that just plain Squill was taken, making your name seem just a little bit like a clone of another name.

I have a five syllable username, and no one seems to have a problem with it.
