I've learned quite a few things ever since I picked up playing DF thanks to how insanely complex it is, and how in some ways it emulates real life quite well. What have you guys learned about DF that applies to life in general?

The one I'll share is that I learned what kinesthesis is. I didn't even know there was a word for that

I learned what pig iron is and how it's used in the creation of steel.

I learned that people with big families are vampires.

I learned that stone forms in layers of various types, with other types in ovals or streams that don't cross those layers ever. Also all layers are totally horizontal.

I learned we could solve the trash problem our world has with draw bridges.

One word: geology.

I can now hold semi-intelligent conversations with a friend of mine who's taken geology courses.  While we gabbro now, I can throw in a bunch of gniess puns.  XD

I guess what I really learned from Dwarf Fortress... is heartbreak.
