As with all important systems in a worldship, the Air Conditioning controls are moved once someone leaves the system to prevent an aggressive ship from targeting it effectively.  The exact location of the system at any given time is known only to the Keeper, though they tend to stay in the same general location at any given time.  This means that there is a maze of passageways leading to the system.  Left, right, or straight?

These corridors are largely featureless, but sounds from around corners can be heard, in this case, it seems that there is some barking coming from the South.  To save myself a headache, you went east previously, so North, East or South?

It appears that you have stumbled upon a kennel of slaughterhounds, quite possibly the most brutal creatures that humans have ever created without genetic engineering.  They sit at twice the size of a Great Dane, have the tracking abilities of a bloodhound and the temperament of a starving Chihuahua.  You're lucky that these ones haven't been let out yet, but doubtless, there will be more out on the prowl.  You quickly return to your previous crossroads before they pick up your scent.  North or East.
