Bitcoins. Maybe you can lie and convince them they're not currency.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

My list always consisted (and most of the time, still consists of) money.

I never asked for stuff, so didn't really get much. My dad would give us pasta and other nonperishable foods, because he wasn't sure if we were getting enough to eat. If I have one regret, it's that I didn't ask for socks. You can always use more socks.

My general advice would be to ask for things you can enjoy with the person giving it, that they have an interest in. Fake your own enjoyment if necessary. They'll appreciate it much more, and remember the holidays fondly when you start asking for things like a car and laundry money (for those socks you never got enough of).

In recent years I haven't had much of a Christmas wishlist. I just get nice, liquid cash:D

*muses* I actually could use some underwear and socks.

Ask for Socks crafted from the highest craftdwarfship. Or ask for silence. Or ask for not being asked for lists. Or ask for removal of the restriction against not getting money. Or ask for Santa, in a box. Or ask for a cat. Or ask for air. Or ask for a zoo. Or ask for Enlightenment. Or ask for a lifetime subscription to Bad Parenting magazine. Or ask for better grades. Or ask for the ability to fly. Or ask for an empty, gift-wrapped box. Or ask for tinsel. Or ask for snow. Or ask for the money they would have spent to be donated to a children's hospital. Or ask for the cure for Cancer. Or ask for the Forbidden Treasure of La Mulana. Or ask for parents who don't ask their children to ask for things. Or ask for a stairway to Heaven. Or ask for the Escalator to Hell. Or ask for the Cornucopia.  Or ask for the Apple of Discord. Or ask for the Philosopher's Stone. Or ask for the Elixer of Life. Or ask for a map to the Fountain of Youth. Or ask for the Holy Grail. Or ask for Excalibur. Or ask for Beowulf's Armor. Or ask for the Helm of Darkness. Or ask for Cupid's bow. Or ask for the One Ring. Or ask for a lightsaber. Or ask for Pandora's Box. Or ask for the Necronomicon. Or ask for a unabridged version of The King in Yellow. Or ask for SCP-055. Or ask for 50 kg of nuclear weapons-grade uranium. Or ask for the key to World Peace. Or ask for the Key to World Domination. Or ask for the key to a girl's heart. Or ask for the key to the nuclear suitcase. Or ask for the Key to the City. Or ask for DF 1.0. Or ask for the love of those around you. Or ask for the domination of the minds of the weak pathetic fools who surround you. Or ask for a plan to strike fear into the heart of all good, wholesome people, who were foolish enough to align themselves, with your enemies. Or ask for a plot that will wear upon the bodies and minds of those too feeble to understand your workings, and too weak to stop it. Or ask for a longer piece of paper to write things to ask for. Or ask for a quilt pen.

I'll see myself out now.

If they did give you money, what would you spend it on?  Anything in that answer which is appropriate for gifting, add it to the list.

If you already spend your own money on stuff that could potentially be gifted, don't buy some of it for the next month or so and add it to the list (ideally you'd have started that process a month or two ago, depending how much stuff we're talking about).

I would ask for books, but since I've got access to a great university library...Maybe I'll just ask for a pair of prescription sunglasses. Or a fountain pen, those are awesome, too.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

I'm also thinking of getting my kid brother (age 13) a copy of Penthouse or something similar for Christmas (I am getting him a non-gag present as well). I'm not sure my parents would be too pleased, but whatever.

My dad bought me Mein Kampf last year, maybe consider something like that.
