Um...aren't piano strings made of wire? Like, piano wire? Like, metal? Like, non-flammable?

I was going to see how long it took them to realize that...

Rasping noise?  Potentially signifying potentially life-threatening monster?

...As you keep pondering and listening, though, you notice another, more unsettling sound in the darkness somewhere. Something rasping, quiet and distant, but getting slowly closer. You figure you'd best find some light.

Look for sticklike object to wrap shirt around and use as torch.

If we're inside a giant piano, maybe there are giant splinters, too?

There don't appear to be any splinters in sight, though your light is rather dim. Speaking of which, you are losing your balance on this rather precarious seat. You're either going to have to jump forward, or climb down. To do either you'd need to put the phone back in your pocket.

Nylon? I'm not sure if they do pianos with nylon, but I know some guitars have nylon instead of steel.
Whatever is rasping is probably coming closer. We heard it on the floor, so if it's a predator, it's likely on the floor still. I vote jump to strings, DO NOT TRY TO SET ON FIRE

Predator appears to approach when it's dark and retreat when we have light.

You put the phone back in your pocket and leap forward, hands outstretched. Your chin catches the string, nearly flipping you onto your back and sending you hurtling below. But, on reflex, you snatch out and catch the string.

Your impact sends out a loud, clear, C note and a burst of heat. You hear a tuning-fork sound emanate from the back of the room, but after a few seconds it degrades into a rasping, and begins getting closer.

You are hanging by your hands from the string, which is now warm but not too hot to grasp.

Jump to the B string, then pull self up. Straddle the string and pull out phone again.

I believe that the burst of heat comes from the C being middle pitch. I'm theorizing that lower pitches will be colder and higher pitches will be hotter.

In a real piano, the strings are very close together, but given the scaling it's hard to tell.

You are in a large rectangular room, about 50 by 30 feet long. The piano strings, of which there seem to be 8 in this room, are about 12 feet off the floor, now that you can see them, and seem to still be filling the room with a faint humming.

You cannot see the room right now, but when it was lit a few seconds ago you also saw that the strings run lengthwise across the room and are evenly spaced.

So, each string is a little less than 4 feet apart.

With some difficulty, having little upper body strength or agility to speak of, you manage to pull yourself up onto the string. After several seconds of wobbling, you manage to stay in a sitting position, precariously held in place by grabbing the string with your legs. You carefully pull out the phone and light the room again. The rasping, coming from just below your feet, recedes.
