"TAKE COVER!"

RUN.

Thoradin and Isbat join you as you GTFO!

You immediatley run and hide as the countdown continues...

Meanwhile, Karl and Cromwell rush down to see whats going on, as it gradually gets louder.

Seven Six FIVE FOUR THREE TWO ONE

The ground shakes as the vault doors slowly open and cause the very ground to move from not only unuse, but from its sheer thickness and the corrosion that, though faint, kept it together for years. The vault opens, and as the dust starts to clear, Alexander, Isbat and Thoradin stand up and walk inside. They see writing in gold piles that say "Karl and Cromwell were here. Left through back tunnel." but regardless, you see them both standing before you! Half the party has reuinited!

Nadarr & Weston:
You feel the earth shake down the hall and you rush ahead! You see a door and open it. Upon walking inside, the door slams and disappears. Weston's face shows his great distaste for this place, and for good reason. You hear a familiar shout down the hall. As you approach it, you see Thoradin going up to Karl and Cromwell and hugging them both as you watch from behind Alexander and Isbat. Upon turning around, Thoradin spots you and hugs the both of you after another hearty cheer!

THE PARTY HAS REUINITED!

Look at the gold piles.

"Quite artistic. Karl, can you check if you've seen this creature before? We had a bit of issues with it shapeshifting and pretending to be somebody else.. Isbat should prick everybody with his silver sword a bit, even Nadarr to check if we don't have an intruder among us."

Nadarr's face is aghast from the one you showed as Karl and him notice who it is.

This is the head of Gonzou. The very same you left back in Amn

Karl examines the head "This was a rogue... Goddess, what was his name? Gonzo or something? He died by accident against a pack of goblins that we fought at the start of this journey."

Karl removes a gauntlet and slices the back of his hand shallowly with his family longsword, letting the others see the red blood. "I hope this suffices as proof of my humanity?" he says dryly.

"What happened to you all? We had a fairly straight run here, aside from running into Symon again." He grimaces and shakes his head. "The poor man is hopefully with his God now, and freed of the shadow curse."

Karl also lays out the elf killing axe and the cloak of resistance +2 "My apologies, Thoradin, but we took some artifacts for use against the necromancer." He explains the abilities of the axe, Molly and the helmet, and points to the cloak "We suspect that given the other items, that should do more, but the best we could find out was that it confers greater resistance against ill effects."

((As an aside, I was going through and making sure Karl's character sheet is up to date. Karl is starting to resemble a freaking mobile armory. Since his personal gear includes: 1 shortsword, 1 longsword, 1 battleaxe and 1 battlehammer, along with a large shield on his back. All he's really missing is a polearm at this point. And two more arms so he can triple-wield and still use a shield.))

Thoradin notes that, though it seems safe, that staying in the vault isn't he best idea right now. He also says the forges are the only thing left, so he highly suggests you all be ready for the final battles. After all, you have two more days before the necromancer reaches full power and everyone is heavily beaten down

Thoradin nods.

"This is going ta sound insane lads, but the safest room in between here and the pits of the fortress is the melting pit. It has most of our rejected weapons from apprentices and anything that isn't masterwork laden inside, as well as discared and damaged trap components, broken armor and anything we take from raiders and captured foes. There's an opening in the roof that drops down at a lethal height, and chances are becuase of the misuse and the undead roaming randomly, its probably filled with rotten corpses and rusted parts.

Meaning if you don't want to get disease, you'll have to be careful. But unless you want to double back into that hall and risk getting lost again, this is our only way."

Karl raises an eyebrow at Weston's statement. "I wonder why he thought that. Then again, the conversion to this shadowy undeath seems to twist the minds of its victims."

At Thoradin's explanation, Karl shakes his head. "That sound restful." he says dryly. "Still, if we can get in at the bottom and bar that door, we can use the scrap to make sure that anything that tries to jump in from the top gets an even more lethal surprise at the bottom."

Thoradin nods and you follow him as he leads you deeper into the fortress. Its getting warmer and warmer now, and the sound of distant bubbling gets faintly louder, but still distant. He leads you down a set of stairs, and towards a door with some dwarvish runes written on it. No one but Thoradin can read it, sadly.

"This is it, lads. I'm hoping by Moradin we can get some rest before the last battle comes."

((Give me a reminder, who's carrying Olon's ring?))

You enter the room and you all can't help but look up at the pile of metal weapons and armor laying about. You guess the room to be 30ft high, but there are piles upon piles with holes in the ceiling above each. You look about the room a bit more and see each pile is sorted... Somewhat. Because no one but Thoradin can read Dwarven, you're stuck guessing that the piles are rejected armor, broken armor, rejected weapons, damaged weapons, weapons that are too small mixed with amror that is too small (and definatley not of dwarvish make), broken items made of assorted metals, and even broken tools or tool heads that are made of metal. Thoradin looks about and sees one pile, one that seems to have mixture of arms and armor (But not smaller then dwarvish size, but also not of dwarvish make again) and upon closer look, you see there are bodies impaled with various weapons and the like. You also see a rather large openings off to the side with more dwarven runes near it and upon getting closer, the smell of burnt corpses and molten steel is almost overwhelming. Thoradin also warns you about getting too close to the smelting chutes, especially the one to the far left, as it plunges anything dropped right into magma since its designed to melt down adamantine goods.

Thoradin helps Karl in using several spears, swords and other sturdier objects to barricade the door. Upon closer inspection, the rejected weapons seem to still be of very high quality. Thoradin notes that the dwarven smiths of this place wouldn't take anything less then perfect for their arms and armor.

Other then the holes in the ceiling, you feel this room is much safer then the vault. Who decides to take first watch? Thoradin says he should rest up for the entirety of the night, mostly due to being knocked out twice

Karl volunteers for the first watch, using the time while keeping an eye on the entrances to carefully clear and make small repairs to his weapons and armor

Look at the weapons for a sword that's worth something. Take whatever watch it is.

Perception check and my Heal if you forgot it.

Look at the weapons for a sword that's worth something. Take whatever watch it is.

Perception check and my Heal if you forgot it.

((Nadarr had Olon's ring I think?))
You take first watch with Karl after you dig around for a bit. You find swords made from copper, iron, steel and silver from the rejected and damaged pile. You even find a solid gold sword in the rejected pile, though upon taking a look at it, its definitely used for anything but combat. You also notice that why it was probably rejected is one of the runes carved on the blade is drawn wrong, which is probably why it was in here. There's many blades that are mostly ornate, but they're either damaged rejected for a very good reason. Nadarr, in a mixture of being possessed and regular, before sleeping and taking second watch with Cromwell, states that he can repair damaged weapons with a ritual he has on him. So if you really wanted to, he could repair a few weapons that you find that are damaged or rusty, but he mentions he gets 50% to compensate for the ritual costs when he finishes. He also mentions this is on top of any shares you give to the party if you do. Upon his sleeping, you dig about for more weapons and find (CRIT) 14 gold blades (damaged), 20 silver blades (damaged), and your digging has also found you find a damaged Adamantine Longsword +2. However, due to the weapon being damaged, you cannot use it to its full power, only doing 1d4 damage and not granting it bonuses it normally does. Its a very impressive and nice looking blade however. By the time you're done, Karl has fully patched up his gear and sharpened his heirloom blade.

((I'll let you decide upon the deal, as it will take up almost all of Nadarr's watch, but he's on autopilot, so you're good))

Weston and Isbat awaken for the last watch, after nothing to report from the possessed duo's watch. Hours pass, and towards the last leg of the watch, Isbat looks up and notices that shadows are quickly escaping into the room! Without giving a second thought, Weston and Isbat awaken the others as shapes start to form on the ceiling as it spreads to the walls and slowly comes down like paint that was splashed on wall. Thoradin breaks open the barricade and slams the door open, but as he turns to fight, you watch as the shapes aren't the regular shadow creatures but husks. They have adapted to travel through the Necromancer's shadow magic! You remember your last fight with them and head out into the hall, away from the room. They start falling one by one as more husks arrive from the shadows by the hundred. Thoradin grabs a few things from the barricade on the other side and somehow finds a way to seal the door shut.

"Come on lads, we need ta hurry! Those husks won't wait for us! Let's go!"

You follow him as he bolts down the hall at full speed. He leads you down another set of stairs but its down only you say about 10ft, as you see bright light coming from the end of the hall. You rush there, as the sounds of banging against the sealed door is heard loud and clear! It starts to get immensely hotter as you notice that the magma forge rooms as you pass them. You make it towards the end of the hall and you see Thoradin look puzzled as he looks at the door with eyes of pure horror and shock.

"This... This was never 'ere before. Steel yourselves lads, I don't like the looks of this."

Everyone readies their weapons as he kicks down the door, and not long after, you hear the sounds of the sealed door breaking, as you hear the sound of steel snapping and shouting in a fell tongue. You enter the hall and Thoradin slams it shut behind you. Upon turning, you all look at the scene before you. Alexander recognizes it most, though you all saw it once before.

You see a throne on the other side of a platform chained above magma. On the throne sits a figure in grey robes. You see behind the throne is a large inactive portal arch that is marked in dark runes. Alexander can read them, though he cannot make them out word for word from this distance. The figure does not move as you stand there in awe.

You head towards the platform, as the stairs down seem to lead to a rickety bridge made of Chains and thin metal plates. You carefully cross the bridge and onto the platform, all staring down, face to face with The Necromacner himself.

"At last, we finally meet. I must admit, I wasn't expecting you gentlemen so soon. You may be able to stop me yet. You see, the portal behind me is where most of my power for this shadow magic comes from. I was granted power by a demon far greater then Orcus could ever be. And I will use this magic to plunge all of Faerun into my world of death and shadow. As you saw with your former companions, it doesn't matter if you burn them, scatter their ashes, or whatever else you think you can do. All things that have died fall under my domain.

I have been keeping an eye on you gentlemen though. After all, I controlled those boogeymen who attacked you. However, I saw that you all thought you could just walk right in and kill me.

So I let you enter my halls. You met a few of my apprentices, and slew a few. But sadly for you, there are dozens more. Their power is but a mere fraction of what I have. And as you saw when you came in, my armies are vast, and you saw the perfection of my power, with the husks.

I have to thank you for helping me create them. You see, when I saw during the fight with you back at the foot of the Small Teeth Mountains, my boogeymen latched onto you and started draining parts of your souls.

And then I thought: Why not try having them take the soul out and replace them with themselves?

And then we met your giant friend, Archuther. Oh, how magnificently wonderful he is! A human from a distant plane with weapons that we have never seen before? He was perfect! And then his prowess and his ability to resist the magic... He makes the perfect field general for my armies.

You see, he resists my dark magics, but because his soul was removed and replaced with my creatures, he dies because his body resists it. But the magic is what keeps him alive now, so he dies. But then the creature's soul returns him from death, rekindling that resistance to my magic. And the cycle repeats.

And now I have mastered it. All of those husks you fought? People who were unfortunate enough to have their soul ripped out and captured by the very creature who inhabits their now shell of a body. This is what the Husks are. And all of them are still alive. The shadows aren't killed directly, so they feel no pain. They don't flinch to attacks. You helped me in becoming this powerful being.

And unlike Aurel, Grot and the others, I will not give you a chance to give up.

No, you are the heroes I let in to humor me as I let you try and stop me. And I expect a good fight.

But did you really think I'd fight alone?"

He raises his hands to the side and a staff flies into his right, and to the left, a spell starts forming. He slams his staff into the ground and a burst of dark magic flies out and several blotches land on the ground. They start bubbling and forming into different shapes. The first one to rise stands tall and broad, and draws a sword and shield before his face is revealed. The second grows claws and pulls out a staff and head forms into a draconic maw as he claws his face and roars. The third one twists and turns as a dagger appears into its hand and robes flow from its body as the others seems to get weapons and armor. The fourth starts warping and writhing as it grips its head and a sword and a rod appear in its hands. Two more figures appear from the floor as Aurel and Symon rise from them. Aurel draws his blades and grins his mad and fell smile as Symon, now looking almost exactly as he was before his death, stands shirtless with several massive puncture wound scars lining his body and around his neck, carrying a single flail, using the same fighting stance as he always would take in his life with Bahamut's shouts.

The Necromancer stands tall and ready as the figures stand at the ready, weapons drawn. The party stands in awe as he appears to have made perfect replicas of some of the party members, specifically Karl, Cromwell, Weston and Nadarr. The bridge behinds you collapses. Unlike the shapeshifter, these shadow clones look like living shadow as before with glowing blood red eyes.

Shadow Karl starts the charge! He lets out a fell roar as his blade glows dark purple. His shout is similar but distorted to Karl's as he moves up and slashes the real one! His blade stabs into Karl's side and deals (13) damage!

Isbat Vasyol, the Samurai, begins his turn!
