Considering how many bodies they had seen lately, Weston was curious as to what could have spoiled the two so badly. He decided to walk up the spiral and see for himself.
You walk up the spire at a faster pace then the other two, and Nimue makes a screeching noise as you both see the horror inside the cave. You can see it clearly since the cave is not very deep and the sun is slightly inside the cave (and low light vision helps). You can tell now that the blood splatters was this poor dwarf you see before you. It was hard to tell since most of his beard is shredded off but the height gives it away. You also notice his sword is VERY ornate. There is blood splattered on it, but the blade still seems to shine.

Thyra picks up the blade and the sheath the dwarf has on him as Symon grabs the bag and throws it over his shoulder. You leave the body where it lies as you go back down the spire. Aurel seems eager to search the bag for goodies.

Symon hands the pouch over to Aurel and clampers back onto the wagon to keep heading onwards.

Try an Arcana check on the sword. I think History is one of my trained skills, so attempt that as well, looking for any markings.

Check the bag.

You find inside, a lot of random objects. Small, but expensive looking trinkets mostly, a book with no title, and lastly, a set of bracers. Thyra looks at the book and says it's probably his journal.

((Just to save Highmax some trouble, this is what Symon found in the bag.))

Try an Arcana check on the sword. I think History is one of my trained skills, so attempt that as well, looking for any markings.
The blade is magical alright; you realize, after wiping off the blood, that the blade is extremely sharp, and it bears a heron on the blades hilt. What makes you assume its magical is the fact the blade is undamaged, and judging from the way he held it, he obviously blocked whatever mauled him to no success. You arcana check the blade. (16+7) It is a Heron Marked Blade ((huzzah for custom items!))

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You history check the blade... (?) But you cannot recall anything about it. Strange...

Symon hands the pouch over to Aurel and clampers back onto the wagon to keep heading onwards.
You hand the vryloka/human (as far everyone but Weston knows) the bag and get back on the cart. You start down the path again... And then your stomach rumbles loudly, marking lunchtime. It is ~1:30pm.

You start down the path and see no more evidence of what you believe was Archuther. You spend a couple of hours following the path. You come across a wooden bridge to the right and a slope to the left. The bridge is roughly 30ft off of the ground. The bridge appears to be very sturdy and wide enough for caravans to cross. It is also, made out of logs that appeared to have been knocked over in the past couple months; the wood doesn't seem rotted or aged very much.

Check the bag.

Check the bracers and the book.
You check them out as you press on. (14 + 2) They are bracers of respite.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You read the journal. You read, as you ride with the party. You discover he was with the Caravan you crossed paths with and was skimming along the side. He also lost half of his earnings during a shadow creature attack as he fled. The last few pages say he felt like they were hunting him, and the last few pages are his last words:

They sent a monster after me; a giant human clad in armor head to toe. I watched him rip off his own armor and I managed to get away. I'm at the top of this spire ready to fight him if he comes. He get me good with that strange weapon of his. I don't think I have much time left, even if he doesn't find me. So much for getting rich. If I don't make it, take this book to my wife, her name is S-

Blood splatters the rest of the page, and the writing is cut off.

Weston regretted that he didn't know how to use longswords. This seemed like a mighty fine blade.

The party crosses the bridge. As soon as the wagon gets on the logs, you hear it creaking. (?) You hear heavy creaking but you make it across safely. You continue down the path a ways and come across another crossroads. You're all starting to get sick and tired of this place... You also hope its easier coming back then it was going to... Thyra is holding onto the sword for now, taking a few swings every now and then to get a good feel with it. You notice that she struggles a bit with it; the handle is a little big for her small hands. She mumbles to herself in deep thought.

The map updates! ((I forgot the last page, so here it is))

Ask to see the trinkets, and if given Arcana/Perception check them.

Hand them over, asking to tell him what he finds, but keep the book.

((I know that Eladrin can take a feat to use longswords as implements. Although I may need to be proficient with it first. Do warlocks have proficiency with longswords? Or do Eladrin get it?))

If I can use the longsword, ask to see it, if not, then just keep following.

You ask Thyra for the Heron Marked Blade and she gives it to you. You now have a longsword you can use, but isn't much use to you right now.

Ask to see the trinkets, and if given Arcana/Perception check them.
Nothing appears magical except for one object; a small shield. (2+9) You cannot distinguish what the magic is. Otherwise, just some rather ornate goodies that can probably be used for decoration, etc.
