Dwarven Ressurection
« on: December 01, 2013, 08:24:48 pm »

I understand there is only zombification or cheating, but I'm willing to accept cheating. I'm playing Masterwork, embarked and in less than a week my chef already died because of sand sprites(?). So I like this place and I'm willing to cheat to bring the dwarf back, but I don't know if it can be done.

Masterwork has a DFHack script called fullheal.

If you highlight your dead dwarf in the unit menu and type "fullheal -r" into DFHack, it should resurrect him.

I love you. You are my new favorite person. Here, have a cookie.

Out of curiosity, does this work with rotten/skeletal corpses or only fresh-deads?

When I used it last, it created a brand new version of the dwarf, and his old corpse was still sitting in it's stockpile. I'm not sure when that was, but it was quite a while ago, so it may have changed.

Wait...then does that mean you can potential spam fullheal on the corpse and have a fortress of clones?

I dunno. Try it and see, I guess?

Though there may be issues with there being duplicate souls running around.

And it has to be "fullheal -r" to resurrect a creature. Just fullheal will simply heal the target.

I don't think so, since you need to highlight the name in the unit list, and once resurrected they dissapear from the dead section.

If his body get destroyed, well... at least it how works in Adv mode. I used "fullheal -r" and resurrect my persona then grab the older body and threw into lava.
He died.

That's not that odd. When I made my own version of the script (I wasn't aware it already existed), I noticed that it leaves a corpse behind, yeah, so I just kinda removed it by iterating through all of the map's corpses (which could be slooooow) and removing any one found to have the same unit_id as the unit.

Besides animation and cheating, you can also create white mages that resurrect dwarves by themselves. ;)

lifemancers are great when working in hospitals. If your not using full heal then check your mages in case you have one but be careful. If he starts to rot I found sometimes if you have a low level lifemancer especially your dwarf is brought back partly rotted its probably a bug but just watch out.
