Hello, ladies and gentlemen, I've noticed that there aren't any active threads dedicated to the games produced by Privateer Press, and decided to fix that!
So, let's begin: I've known about Warmahordes for quite a while, but started playing only recently. It's a weird game - a mixture of chess, Magic the Gathering and steampunk robots, but I admire how different it feels to the rest of the wargames - aggression is highly rewarded, as are various shenanigans involving positioning and movement, synergy is crucial and extremely obvious, most games can turn around frighteningly quickly, and the guy in charge of your forces is capable of massive damage output but almost inevitably dies if the enemy can get to him. The last statement applies to the majority of units in the game, in fact - the biggest difficulty I so far had while playing was learning to think of my units as glass cannons or chess pieces, things that kill like heroin addiction on their turns and die like a politician's career after being accused of paedophilia whenever the enemy advances. It's such a change from Warhammer Fantasy I used to play back in Russia, where units are almost never wiped out and battles are lost due to soldiers losing their spirit and running away as blocks of infantry grind against each other.
If I could make an analogy, I would equate Fantasyhammer to D&D and Warmachine to Paranoia due to its sheer lethality and fun factor.
What do you think?
