Alexander
You move toward the exhibit where the jewel is being held. [4] [6] There is of course two strong-looking gentleman on either side of the jewel, but it is rather unprotected despite it's value. However, the gentlemen notice you scoping out the jewel and it's defenses. He frowns at you. "Oi." one of them says. "Whatchoo doing?"
Suspicion Level is down by one: you are now considered Odd!

Willard
[4+1=5] [2] You discuss the duchy with several other guests. They all consider you charming and courteous, but don't have much to say about the topic apart from the obvious ("Oooh, isn't it a lovely duchy, right in France dontyouknow?"). How irritating.

Lady Whitby
[4] The South Croydon Tripper, the hoodlum that he is, is hanging around the cheese and wine table. The fool is attempting to invade the other cheeses without offering some to the other guests! What a devil. [5] Luckily, he doesn't spot you looking at him... Thank God, imagine if he attempted to initiate conversation? You could barely handle such an uncouth being.

Lady Katherine
[2] [2] Unfortunately, you chat when you should look and look when you should chat. You cannot spot Lady Wilburforce, and you have given the unpleasant impression of being a distracted ditherer. Several of the guests around here have become quite offended indeed!
Your Social Status is down by one: you feel quite Awkward!

Seanan
[2] You spend a little too much time looking, and some people have wandered off to find better guests since you are clearly not exactly polite company. [4] [6] You spot the Chief of Police discussing matters with a bespectacled judge. Unfortunately, the Chief of Police spots you and waves you over. Trying not to be impolite, you walk over. You realize that this was a bad idea when he spends only thirty seconds of the conversation talking about you and some of your achievements and then spends the rest talking about himself. What a boor!

Your Social Status is down by one: you feel quite Awkward!

Stealthily appropriate a fork to use for assassination. If someone asks about it, just pretend that it was an accident and put it back.

Well then... Looks like we're going to have to do this the hard way. Meaning a bit of drinking, some forgery of documents, and an unfortunate accident or two to top things off. But first, I must find the old Duke.

Locate the Duke and try to initiate a bit of conversation and drinking with him.

Alexander will explore the rooms, and try to see if any near where the Gem is held could hold something that would be able to distract the two guards, even but for a moment.

In a basic sense: Something, or some way, to cause a quick panic/etc.

Try to put up with the Chief of Police's boorishness. Survey surroundings for windows and other egresses to make my escape.

Lady Withby
[6] You grab a bundle of knives and forks from the table. Now the party is left without cutlery. [3] For now, no-one spots the lack of cutting implements. You best do this quick, or you shall find yourself in a very awkward situation!

Lady Katherine
[3] [5] While avoiding social embarrassments, you spot Lady Wilburforce. [5] She's in a quiet corner of the party drinking a glass of wine. [1] Unfortunately, she seems to have spotted you and is nodding to your analyzing stare.

Willard
[6] [6+1] You see the Duke, utterly sloshed, loudly chortling and making rude remarks toward the ladies of the party. You approach him and say hello, and in the way that unfortunately pissed gentleman are wont to do, he immediately clutches you and says that you are his best friend, really, it's you and me against the world, wait, whoops. The other party guests look at you with disgust and dismay.
Your Social Status is down by one: you feel quite Awkward!

Alexander
Ignoring the guard's questions, you give a look around for a distraction. [1] You open a door and realize you have just entered a restricted storage area full of hidden treasures and old antiques. [3] They don't seem to realize you're not meant to be here, but the guards are looking at the direction of the door oddly and discussing whether or not you should be there.

Seanan
[3] You see a window you could escape via crawling out, but there is the chance that you could be unfortunately trapped by the window!

Don't tell me that smell's... Dammit, it's definitely piss. Well, at least he's drunk enough that this next bit should be easy. In fact, it opens up a whole new option. Instead of getting a sample of his handwriting to forge some papers, I might just be able to get him to hand everything over to me in a game of dice.

Willard throws an arm around the Duke and laughs heartily.

"Hahaha, it's good to see you again old pal! I see that you haven't changed at all since last time... A game of dice at some grand estate, wasn't it? Say, you wouldn't mind playing again here, would you? For old time's sake, same stakes as before?"

Invite the Duke to a game of dice.

Replace all of the cutlery save a single knife, do so in a quick, efficient and covert fashion.

Look around for some amusements to lead the police chief to a more escapable locale.

Approach and start the conversation. lead with a compliment, and let the conversation flow naturally.

Willard
[5+1=5] The duke smiles and nods. He seems awfully excited to get started and takes out a pair of dice he keeps on himself at all times. The duke is a gambling man, after all. He confidently rolls them and grins. [1] Oh dear. In the next few seconds, things get awfully hairy. The dice roll onto the ground, then lay there somewhere under the feet of party-goers. A lady walks onto the pair and slips, causing her to fall over and spill her wine. The wine falls onto a table dwelling candle which spits heavily, and a fire is started on the tablecloth. Oh my. How incredibly unlikely and woeful! The duke looks at you rather worriedly.

Alexander
[5] You fast-talk them, coerce them, intimidate them. You are the secretary of ancient arts and literature at the museum, and it is disgusting that the ruffains that you see before you cannot recognize this. You give them such a talking to that their cheeks are as red as the dawn sun. They are utterly shocked at their behavior and give you such an apology that you feel almost a tinge of pity. They are playing right into your hands. Now, all you have to do is to figure out what to do with them. Hrm. Do you smell smoke?
Your suspicion level has raised! You are now considered Normal!

Lady Withby
[3] You replace the cutlery, but in the midst of replacing them some bloody fool causes a small fire! You might be hurt! [6] You pull away your hands from the table and find them to be without harm, but cause the candle causing the trouble to fall over causing the fire to grow into even more of an inferno. The entire table is on fire now. This is a bit of a conundrum. [3] Some people are panicking, while others are attempting to ignore it in order to remain polite. You luckily look like an unfortunate bystander rather then a firestarter. [5] The South Croydon Tripper doesn't even notice the fire, the fool.

Seanan
Aha. There's a fire at the eateries table. Yes, generally people don't like fire. Fire tends to burn people quite badly. [4] You note this to the Chief. He does note that this party has gone downhill somewhat, and invites you to have a smoke outside. You nod and walk with him. [5] Thankfully, the judge evacuated, so it's just you and him for now. The cold night air is rather pleasant, almost drowning out the pungent stink of the Chief of Police's pipe. It'd be almost a pleasant night, if not for the screaming of a few people inside.

Lady Katherine
You find Lady Wilburforce and begin conversing with her, noting her lovely appearance this eve. [5] While she is rather perturbed by the fire, she is brought in by your lovely compliment and as such doesn't leave just yet. You both continue to discuss, occasionally raising your voice when someone's hair catches on fire and they panic a bit. Ah, if you weren't planning to murder her, you would love to stay and chat.
