Japes, The 1920s Mystery Party RTD
« on: November 29, 2013, 04:53:52 pm »

The year is 1925, Britain. For the rich, it is a decade of growing industry and constant parties. You are a frequenter of such parties as you are an individual of some note. However, there is a rather massive conundrum. The parties are being infiltrated by ruffians of the worst sort. Cutthroats, robbers, and scoundrels! Unfortunately, you are one of them. With every party you go to, you get an objective: usually to murder someone, steal something, or chat someone up. However, these might vary with the party. If you cannot complete this objective, you end with failure. If you complete your objective, you end with success. Rewards may follow with continued success.

While you're trying to advance your social position and generally have a good time, you must also accomplish your devilish schemes. Time for some japes.

(Sure, Kansa, you're on the waitlist!)
From the desk of the Director of the London Private Historical Art Gallery
The grand reopening of the London Private Historical Art Gallery is upcoming! After a mysterious fire caused the gallery to close, we are happy to announce that we have managed to restore our priceless artifacts to their former glory. You are cordially invited to a celebration by the staff of the London Private Historical Art Gallery, and we hope that you are not going to attempt any robberies or murders during this party. If you are going to commit a murder, which you are definitely not going to do, please prevent your gruesome murder from wetting the paintings as we spent a lot of time and effort cleaning those.

RSVP!
***
You are in the lobby of the London Private Historical Art Gallery. The eyes of historical figures glare at you as your fellow party guests sip wine and converse. You sip your wine and converse with some dreadfully dull chap from Derbyshire while you go over your plans for the evening.

Alexander
You wish to steal the infamously valuable Mondobo Jewel, a most fabulous object from Hindustan that should get you some dosh for your own purposes. Unfortunately, it is in rather clear display in the middle of a brightly lit room surrounded by two very stout guards. You're sure you can figure something out.

Willard P. Wallin IV
You have learned that the elderly Duke of Mooédoó (A property in France that is rather small but quite prestigious) is within the building. If you could somehow arrange it to be that you are quite suddenly the claimant for the Duchy, it would be quite lovely as you do rather fancy yourself a duke. Besides, you could get a portion of money by selling off various useless artifacts that the current owners do not wish to own. It could be both profitable and good for your standing.

Lady Katherine III
Lady Wilburforce is in charge of a well-frequented theater, which employs your sister. She is the most likely to be given ownership in the event of the lady's death and has promised to split the money from the theater with you. So, the simple option is to wait until her death by old age. Except that would take ages and you are rather wishing to get that cash, so you're going to murder her.

Lady Whitby
You hear the infamous South Croydon Tripper (A nasty fellow who trips people up in South Croydon) is present here tonight to do some tripping despite the fact that this is not South Croydon. There are some who desire his head as revenge for his most heinous act, as murder is murder but tripping is just impolite. Thus, you are going to rather brutally murder him. However, the problem is that he has some foresight and has thus brought a revolver.

Seanan Rinne
The head of the local police force is here. You have a friend who has expressed monetary interest in ascending in rank, and unfortunately the Head of the Local Police Force has refused to up and die, meaning that you have to do the job manually. However, try to avoid the police he's brought in order to avoid any trouble as getting arrested would be very aggravating.

Alexander will sidle into the room where the Jewel is kept, and scope the place out. Observe everything nonchalantly!

Well then, where to start... I'll have to speak to the Duke at some point without a doubt, but let's see what else everyone else knows first.

Willard will chat up some of the guests, casually bringing up the topic of the Duchy whenever he can.

"I have to agree, sir, it is quite unfair that they raised the price of stamps so unexpectedly. Stamps are the foundation upon which our postal system rests, and it is unthinkable that they would wantonly abuse the common man and woman so in this day and age. Simply unthinkable," said Lady Whitby to the dull man from Derbyshire. He was a very inconspicuous one to be with, that is for sure.

Scope out the room. Can I get a visual on the South Croydon Tripper?

You will excuse me, good sir, if I go to peruse the works in this wonderful place. It would be unseemly of me not to mingle on such an occasion, as much as I do enjoy your company.'

Make polite chit chat whilst searching for Lady Wilburforce.
