What do you Shear?
« on: November 29, 2013, 03:06:21 pm »

I'm curious what other Forts use....

I usually end up with Alpacas and Goats, becausei thought Goats were able to be sheared....

I'm switching over to Alpaca and Sheep, due to both being adorable, and Sheep still having horns.
I'm tempted to mod in Goats and Satyrs being shearable though....

What do you use DFers, or do you not use any Shearable animals?

And thus, "The running of the goblins" became an annual tradition and the first dwarven contraceptive.

This thread is why I love dwarf fortress. We start at engravings of wagons and end up using necromancy to raise them from the dead, and were-wagons.
I jumped off a ramp in a cave and exploded.

Not quite shearing but my main source of clothing right now is webs from a FB that I managed to trap. Took AGES to get the damned thing, but it was totally worth it for FB fashionable silk clothing.

"A great scaly assassin bug. It has three short horns and it has a bloated body. Its amethyst scales are round and set far apart. Beware its webs!"

Usually, I don't. I always just stuck with pig tail fiber.

But that's like, all the shearable animals.

I like sheep, myself. Low grazing requirements, and the males give horns when butchered.

Though if given the chance, having trolls to shear would be cool. You'll have to mod them to be tameable though. Or if you are feeling sadistic, set male dwarves to make their beards shearable. Which I have done a few times before, with varying results.

Goblins, of course

"Everyone! Dibs on the troll fur pants!"

But If I did use farm animals for purposes other than butchering, Alpacas.

When I shear it's usually all three.  Plus trolls sometimes.

It's more fun for me to have ten of each instead of thirty of one.

I like to use llamas, just for the Monty Python reference.

¡Cuidado, cuidado, y es llamas!
