"When in Rome..."

Baffler accepts a strip and starts chewing on the very end.

"I'll volunteer for chief medical human because I know how to make some poisons and I have some experience with butchering
"I don't feel comfortable with you being a doctor. Or a nurse. Or anywhere near the medical areas, really."
Why not? Surgery is just butchering somebody without killing them and some of the effects of the poisons are beneficial to a patient if they survive.

It has a very leathery texture, but as he chews it, it softens a bit, and Baffler finds the strip to taste salty and meaty.

As to the first: No, it isn't. Mainly because you don't care about extra cutting nerves or veins when butchering, and because you're trying to cut things apart rather than open, and because you need to do stuff once you are in the body. It would be better if you were trained in autopsies.
2. Big if.
3. When your only qualifications are something that kills people and something you only do to dead things, I would rather have an unqualified doctor.

"I'll volunteer for chief medical human because I know how to make some poisons and I have some experience with butchering

(If this is a response to me and Cado's conversation, we're having it at a level of voice that prevents others from hearing it randomly, and therefore, jumping in.  If this was a comment, it...wasn't really in the flow of the conversation, making the statement highly confusing.  Seriously, would you really say that just after an unidentified person shows up?)

"I'll volunteer for chief medical human because I know how to make some poisons and I have some experience with butchering
"I don't feel comfortable with you being a doctor. Or a nurse. Or anywhere near the medical areas, really."

(Knowing how to fabricate poisons means that you will be able to know the components of the poison and allow a simpler time in creating an antidote to the poisons.  However, comparing butchery ability to mean having surgery ability is similar to saying a damaged hammer could do the job of a fine-tuned razor.)

You didn't specify that so I didn't know.
(Knowing how to fabricate poisons means that you will be able to know the components of the poison and allow a simpler time in creating an antidote to the poisons.  However, comparing butchery ability to mean having surgery ability is similar to saying a damaged hammer could do the job of a fine-tuned razor.)
((most of the "poison making" is just extracting the poisons in large enough doses to be useful just because something contains poison doesn't mean that it is concentrated enough to be useful(for example apple seeds, they contain cyanide but you won't die from eating a few).
edit: It is easier to make a damaged hammer into a fine-tuned razor than it is to make a razor from nothing and a damaged hammer could do the job of a razor better than your bare hands.
edit 2: Knowing how to kill is almost as good as knowing how to not kill if you're performing surgery.))

3. How would you do any better? Does your training with butchery and poisons magically give you access to a medical facility?))

3. No, but it does give me knowledge on how to get a poison that causes temporary paralysis in the area of injection, an idea on how much blood a person can lose without dieing, and how to break bones in the right place. I know about how much blood a human needs to lose before they pass out because I have gotten to that point so that could be used for things that wouldn't cause much blood loss.))

edit: It is easier to make a damaged hammer into a fine-tuned razor than it is to make a razor from nothing and a damaged hammer could do the job of a razor better than your bare hands.

(Might be just a nitpick, but a hammer is blunt, and your fingers are both narrow and tipped with somewhat sharp-ish nails.)

(If you can think of something better, you don't have to stick strictly to the standard noble system. Do remember that anyone capable can do surgery, the chief medical dwarf just diagnoses. If anyone among you knows the signs of something, you can probably diagnose it anyway, and same goes for treatment.)

((It depends on many variables like what type of hammer it is, in what way it is damaged(if it is damaged enough it could have sharp edges), what it is made of, and other things.))
((I know, I just don't want anyone killing somebody because they thought the process would be simple.))

(This discussion might make more sense to have IC, btw. You might want to find out who knows first aid and/or CPR, just to get a list. It's good to know.)

((Sadly, the only people talking IC about nobles--where it started--are talking too quietly for anyone else to hear.))
