(Actually, he's explicitly said he wants to make the game as believable as possible. He's fixed quirks in the past, and plans to do so in the future. Toady doesn't leave them in if he can help it, it's just that he often causes more "unintended features" every time he changes something. But there's an old forum joke that 1.0 will be a perfect simulation of a fantasy reality down to the quantum level.

As you've seen, though, you've still got some quirks left, so use them while you can.)

(I didn't know I was actually fully in this game until recently. You're 100% right about the timezones, though. Except on weekends.)
