"Unless...who here is good with tools? I think I--and probably most of us, we're not exactly morons--know enough about generators that, with tools and time, we could improvise one."

"If we found a river, we could jury rig a waterwheel, and connect it to one of those things that produces electricity through friction, i think, when you crank a handle. That should produce electricity. Then we just need a connector to plug into the laptop...."

"That's probably simpler than what I had in mind. What are those things you're talking about, anyways?"

"I cant remember. I remember using them in school. You plug a little bulb in one end and crank the little things handle and the bulb lights up."

Kari thinks for a minute.

"One problem is, i've never actually seen inside one of them, so i dont know how they work, exactly"

"You're sure it was friction? It might have been rotational motion, spinning the coil of wire around the magnet to generate electricity. Or was it spinning the magnet within the wire?"

"It might not have been friction. Now that you mention it, it probably wasn't friction.

You are probably right, it probably had something to do with magnets, which in that case we need iron to get this working, or at least to start experimenting.."

"I don't see why all of you are so worried about what languages people speak, doesn't somebody have a laptop?"

"I don't think so.  And it would be exceptionally horrible if there was.  When there was one in If Bay Forum were a Mountain Hall, it caused a Slade colossus to begin existence, and allowed it to absorb gods.  And that wasn't the worst that happened.  If we do have one I would recommend it's destruction."

(Since we came in with the clothes on our back, we couldn't have anything that wouldn't fit in a pocket.)

"Oh. In that case, we might as well continue with the experimenting as electricity would be a really good thing to have. Electric lighting, pumped water for sanitation, among other things would be great to have."

"It is a bit of a stretch, but that laptop might have magnets to shut the lid. I doubt they'd be much use for power generation but if the laptop is a crapshoot anyway we might as well take anything useful out of it. I may also be able to get the nice metals out to sell too. Hell, if the battery has enough charge we've got ourselves a (very unstable) bomb to top it off."

"We need to butcher the bears and get a tanning workshop up. Also bear in mind that the bearhides are probably going to be used for blankets or sheets or something."
