Digging is very tiring work: You're going to get sore from chiping away at that much rock, even with the tools you were fortunate enough to have. However, with proper diet, you will find it will develop your muscles fairly well in a matter of weeks. Before you commit to this calorie-intensive work, though, you may want to get a stable food supply. Before then, it might be more prudent to all sleep in a big huddle around the fire.

Anyone here ever planted a garden? If so, you may want to be the one to set up the allotment. It helps to include details of the process from your experience, makes the writing more engaging and believable. Compare any unfamiliar or fantasy plants to ones you know, draw comparisons. If you're the kind of person for it, then a "I hope I'm doing this right" moment might not be amiss.

You may start off thinking in terms like "miasma", imagining purple clouds wafting perhaps, but as you live in the world, the more immediate reality of "the stench of rotting bear" comes to mind.
