To those who were unused to long walks, the sight of the field must have been a happy one indeed. The woods had gone on for a while but right on their edge the road emerged into a treeless area. On one side of the path was a field of some wheat-looking crop, on the other some kind tangled plant mass, like many long, thick vines snaking along the ground, curling upward at places into big brambles.

Without the trees, they could see another large hill further ahead on the road, upon which were more crop fields, and behind which thin plumes of smoke streamed.

Coming out of the forest into tilled fields was unexpected for Baffler. Looking around at the fields and almost subconsciously filling in longland grass, and whip vine. Can't pick any of these for the road... At that moment Baffler realized that he had no idea how to even tell if they were ready to harvest or not. He didn't have much time to reflect on this, however, before he saw the plumes of smoke rising from behind the next hill.

"That looks like the town up ahead! And they have fires burning? I think what we'll see up there is going to be very different from what comes in-game. Heh, maybe there'll be useful stuff for sale in the shops too."

Even if you found a suitable opening, I doubt it would prove all too satisfying. And it might leave some nasty wounds, depending on the moral high ground's geology.

Baffler likes silver, walnut trees, the color green, tanzanite, and dogs for their loyalty. When possible he prefers to consume beef, iced tea, and cornbread. He absolutely detests ticks.

"Or maybe we'll have to climb under someone to get into an overcrowded house to spend the night."

As they came over the top of the hill, they looked down at what was perhaps a bit generous to call a town. It was a cluster of about 20 stone and log buildings of various size, more like a small village. There were about three large lodge-looking buildings near the center, a dozen or so small cottages scattered about the edges. The other buildings were of various sizes and impossible to determine the function of from here.

"Looks like a standard human settlement."

Following Cish, they went down the hill and approached one of the cottages. Cish knocked on the door, calling "Bisan?" A rather frazzled looking woman answered. "Cish?" Her tone was surprised and relieved at once, but then she saw the rather flushed figure leaning against him. "Rakbin!"

Cish helped him up the log step, and the woman took him by the hand, pulling him in. Cish followed her in and they sat Rakbin down on a chair. "Rakbin alu, Bisan, ado a usmel."

A hurried discussion began, which was all but incomprehensible to the others due to its rapidity. After a few minutes, though, Cish came back out, closing the door behind him. "Rakbin a genam, ig vit." He didn't seem worried.

"Looks like it. Now that we're here though, what do we do? We can't exactly tell the villagers what happened. They might not even believe us if we could."

"Well it doesn't matter if they would believe us or not, we can't even speak their language yet so how would we even tell them?"

"Pantomime maybe? We'd look like lunatics though. I'd sure think someone doing that was crazy. Oh well, I guess breaking down that language barrier is the most important thing we can do right now. That and bring some nice souvenirs back to the cave."
