Competitive dwarf fortress version 2
« on: November 27, 2013, 08:04:28 pm »

Hello everyone. For those of you who haven't read WoobMonkey's post to similar effect, go read that one first, then come back. This is intended to run alongside his/hers as a different type of challenge. Whereas WoobMonkeys is difficult within the bounds of vanilla, this game will explore mods to make the game more difficult (read: fun) for everyone.  I have several mods in mind, but what does everyone else think for mods?

Rules:
1. Turtling is discouraged, and will be looked on as a negative point value.

Players:
4maskwolf (0 tries to date)
WoobMonkey (0 tries to date)

Well, don't be shy, join up, if you are dwarf enough.

Well, how about the various Fortress Defense mods?  Maybe the Anubis critter from MDF (those frakkers have been the bane of many a fort I've tried)?

Really, 'sup to you.

Actually, I had not heard about the fortress defense mods, looking at them, that seems evil.  I'm going to Gen a world with them and all max savagery and whatnot, just to be extra evil.

Edit: Generating the world now, hope that it will be sufficiently hard.

Edit 2:  Why are there no dwarfen civs on several worlds and gremlins are the only playable options?

Okay, my computer's being stupid and not letting me update the OP, but here are the rules:
1.  The next round will start on the 1st of every month and last until the end of the month
2. Turtling is highly discouraged
3. Points will be given for narration, so narrate your fortress in a creative way
4. You are allowed to try multiple times, and each time will be scored separately.  There is no cumulative score for trying multiple times.

The save will be up as soon as I find a world that has dwarfs.  Any dwarfs at all.

What's Turtling? I assume it means sealing yourself off from the outside.

Anyway, this is more my style, so im signing up!
I'm using phoebus, and dwarf therapist, if you want to know.

I look at this and wonder, weather or not I should had added word "cutthroath" when creating my thread.

Too bad I won't be able to participate in this one due to school. Still, I could recommend LOLmod from necrothreat if you want to go for hardcore defencive experience. Or civilizations forge mod for extra organized and armed assaults. I could also participate in judging the stories of participants if the need arises.

The point of keeping the golems on fire isn't for the value of fire as a weapon. It's more to keep the golems functioning at a reasonable speed.
It was never a promise. It was a dirty lie, and you all knew that. You should all know by now that you can't trust a word I say.

Mhm.  LOL mod may have to be what we use because it won't generate a dwarf civ with fort defense mod.

Alright, it looks like we are going to have a mix of the fort defense basic and Mr. Frog's spawn of holistic mod.  That's what it seems like at the moment.

Alright, here's the save:
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=8183
The embark is pretty nice, heavily forested in part of it and mountainous in the other, with flux and sand.  I gave you these advantages for a reason: you'll need them.  It's fort defense basic with spawn of holistic.  Not fun, to say the least.

Do you have a good link that summarizes how fortress defense mod works?  I am familiar with SoH, but not the other mod.

Not really.  Just go to the mod page, mod releases, and look at the mod description there, I guess.

Year one update:
Settled in, built basic accomadations, traded with the caravan, was forced to hide from a siege for lack of weapons.  I'll post pics when I'm on a better computer.
