I haven't unpaused yet. Correct me if I am wrong, we have:
-A dumping area, now with extra undead.
-An atom smashing area.

And those are everything we have to dispose of corpses. Right?
Sounds about right.

Hopefully we can coax the dead out of the pit at the bottom and kill them with traps. Then we can install a built-in atom smasher and remove all the up/down stairs.

Yeah, I would, but crossbow bolts don't do near a damn thing against the undead.  At least there aren't any husks.

Actually not true, my good man!
Undead actually use a hitpoint system. One or more crossbow bolts can easily drop an undead, and have the added benefit of not severing body parts which reanimate into additional zombies.
Learned that little tibit over at the original Necrochambers.

Edit: The built in atom-smasher/corpse disposal pit is a good idea. Just make sure you remember to reset it. Otherwise you might accidentally fling a few errant undead out of the trap.
Maybe you could make it auto-reseting by building the lever in a corridor with a dwarf-triggered pressure plate in front of it? That way when you order the lever pulled, the bridge is triggered twice each time?

I'm going to spend a few hours drawing sketches, making plans and triple checking where everything is before actually playing.

Do we have any kind of quarantine area for the new migrants? Something like this:
(B: Retracting bridge
=: Wall
M: Meeting area)

With the outside to the left and the inside to the right. If we don't, it's time to build one.

I can has turn?

First time I've wanted to try a succession fort. Also it'll be the first time I've had to deal with a reanimating biome. So, much fun all 'round.

Well you'r not the only one. I have my first FUN with undead too. Still I know that togeather we will find a way to deal with this problem.

And honestly I have an idea:
What if we dig some tranches oustide the fort and fill them with undead? It's risky as hell, but would greatly increase fort defense. ;)
I have something like that in mind:

= - normal dirt
T - tranches with undead
B - bridge

Nothing will purposefully path into a trench that the undead can't get out of. You'd have to set up a dodge-trap or a collapsing floor to dump enemies into the zombie pits.
Also, unless you figure out how to purge the undead from the pits, this can lead to fps death. Seeing as the only way to clear body parts currently is atom-smashing (if they can be butchered, there's that too) you'd be just as well off making an atom-smasher trap in the first place.
Weaponizing undead in an undead biome isn't really a good idea. If you want to weaponize undead, build yourself an archery tower. Sieges milling about outside can be shot from it, then reanimate to attack their fellows. Or you could just let the wildlife do that.

Fun fact: zombies and clowns get along wonderfully! You'd think a necromancer and some corpses could hold off the circus indefinately, but they'll actually ignore eachother. Also letting a necromancer hang around clown corpses isn't the greatest idea we've ever had.

Ok, I have to ask: What is atom-smasher? I heard that a lot of times, but I don't even know what is that.  :P

From beyond the veil of the world, it watched the dwarves of Bogclasps.
It had known many names. Many times, it had had a body. It couldn't remember which had been its first. Had it been one souls to begin with, or many given union? All it remembered was its duty... its duty to its king, to Armok, to its fortress, to the Lord of Nightmares... whichever it served, it had been abandoned. It had failed to lead it's dwarves.
But it would try again. Its master must forgive it would try again. Whether it had once been Enib or MDFification, it would find new purpose. All it needed was a host. It would find one soon enough...

Sorry guys, but you'll have to skip me. RL decided that it was a perfect moment to interrupt. I think I'll just watch from now.
