So here's a kickstarter I initially dismissed as looking very samey next to all the other pixely platformers, but realized there was more to it thanks to a recent update RPS pointed out.

Basically it looks like a platformer with rogue-like elements - permadeath, randomly generated levels and loot. The great twist showed off in the recent update is that it features more complex interactions than the average rogue-like platformer, such as using a rock to trigger a trap or a lever, being able to tackle someone and use them to cushion your fall onto a bed of spikes or creating distractions to sneak past.

It looks well on its way to reach its rather humble 20k goal, but had they shown this off at the start, I think they would've been way past that by now.
Now funded, with talk of modest stretch goals.

Agreed! I'm not overly into platformers, but that video really was impressive!

I for one support our child snatching overlords.

I just like the look of the gameplay, the way the character moves around so smoothly and swings their weapon and stuff. Somehow, with pixels, they made it really smooth and nice-looking.

You can link the kickstarter directly.

One of these days I am just going to go for one of those "have something you want added to the game" things.

I just realized there's an extended gameplay video out there as well as a VS Mode video.

My favorite part is the fact that you can jump on an enemy and bash their head in with a rock.

It's been funded!

There's talk of stretch goals, most notably co-op (although unspecified whether local or online), but it's still a one-man project with a 2014 release date slated, so he's reluctant to make promises in that regard.

Wow. This to Spelunky is like Nethack to Rogue.

New awesome video came out - covered here by Rock, Paper, Shotgun. Some of his concerns are valid... but I hope there really will be emergent interactions rather than preprogrammed ones :)

Alpha is out for backers. It's pretty damn fun for something on version 0.01.

How did I miss this one?!! Damn! I would gladly pay 16 bucks to play this right now, the second alpha 0.2 looks awesome. This has the potential to be one my fav games. The brutal and visceral platforming of Spelunky but with more depth of a roguelike. Can't wait to try this.
