I'd second Plague Inc. as a time waster. Just don't discuss it with others in an airport or other sensitive area.

"Yeah, I managed to get everybody but Greenland infected, then they got close to discovering the cure and I decided to mutate organ failure and necrosis, that stopped them real quick."

This is not the conversation you want to explain to the TSA.

Dungeon Raid is a neat little puzzle game with some RPG elements, match 3+ game with enemies to match to swords so you can get experience and level, gold to match for better equipment, and a couple cooldown based spells that you can choose 4 of. Enough randomness that you're unlikely to get the same game every time, and some bonuses/traits/maluses to choose from in order to specialize your character a bit better.

There are a few GBA emulators out there as well, I highly recommend some of the more polished games for the system, if you know any. They tend to play well on Android phones in general.

There's always Earthbound and Harvest Moon for SNES. And puzzle games are always replayable: Tetris & Doctor Mario, Tetris Attack, etc.

For Android, I highly recommend Pulse and Fractal from CypherPrime, though they're not free. Also, there's Triple Town. I think there are two versions: a free one which is like a Facebook game (wait for turns to recharge) and a paid one with unlimited play. That game is highly addictive.

As an aside, can anyone recommend any Android specific text file editors and file managers? The reason being that I'll need some .bat files for DosBox (no, word files really don't work) and because Android doesn't even have a proper file manager. So, any good ones?

Androzip for the file management portion is what I use. Aside from the occasional ad asking you to upgrade to the paid version, it's mostly non-intrusive and fairly powerful in terms of file management, let alone zipping/unzipping files and folders.

Can't say much for bat/text file editors. Androzip has a viewer portion, but I've been looking into coding a bit on my phone directly, and DroidEdit caught my eye. Might be what you're looking for.

I can highly recommend the ES 'software suite' that includes the "ES File Manager" (with Text Editor) and it's many modules.
Free and Ad-free, highly functional, thumbnail previews, ftp/cloud access, and quite a bit more, and that's just the base File Manager.

As a side note, batch files will have to be run from a terminal line of some sort. "Android Terminal Emulator" is about all you can ask for in a terminal shell.

@Duuvian: Based on that suggestion, you seem to have no idea what the point of this thread is. (Or perhaps what you're even talking about.) That's an old Windows game, and has nothing to do with Android.

Thirding. I beat all the disease types on Hard except Necroa (which is hard as fuck with my playstyle), and it's really fun.

920 text editor
droidedit
Both can do programming, so they are fairly powerful. I would also get Hackers Keyboard.

for Roguelike I find that Pixel Dungeon for android is not bad, it's based on Brogue so it's not that deep and randomisation plays a big part on you success but it's worth a try.
WazHack is also not bad but I never played on a phone, I play on my tablet, and I suspect a phone screen would be to tiny.

Check out Carmageddon, I used to love that game when I was a kid and now they are releasing a new one so they made the very fist one available on the Play Store, try out the demo.

As for dosboxing I would give a look into the GOG.com library, they have got some good old games there (hence the name). Screen size might be and issue though but give it a look anyway.

EDIT: I travel a lot and you'll be surprised at the availability of WIFI internet and the quality and price of some 3g network. In indonesia 2GB of 3G was 4USD if I remember correctly.

Cheers n9103, sounds like what I'm looking for. I can't really imagine programming on this thing (wrestling with a touchscreen keyboard is already fun enough). I might chuck the SDK and a compiler on though, just for the sale of it. I'll wow the ladies with my battery vibration control skills, lol.

Carmegeddon sounds sweet, I used to play it a bit as a kid. I might chuck Stunts on here as well. Can anyone think of some good, low-end "serious" racing games? It's another hole in the line-up. GT2 maybe, Indy 500, and then something else.

(note: all suggestions are fine. I might dump win 3.11 on here, just to see if I can play Stars! and Minesweeper/Solitaire)

Hackers Keyboard has arrow keys, which is invaluable for text editing on a touchscreen.

As well as about a gazillion other DosBox'y uses. Sounds great. I'll grab it as soon as my hangover stops screaming at me.

You're right, hence the I'm not sure it would work on Android. Someone suggested LCS so I thought it might work.

LCS from a couple versions back has actually been ported to Android. Current LCS Windows will not work even on 95/98, which does run on DOSbox Turbo for Android, because it uses stuff from the NT generation or something to that effect.
