We'll compromise. The "Monument to Dwarfen Virility" will house a replacement archery tower and a Monarch's bedroom/office.
Also we can still dwarf people. I'm nowhere near ready to breaching hell (don't have enough troops to make it survivable, and feel like just cheesing them with a trapped corridor is... not the greatest way to deal  with them. I won't be playing for a few days, so there's that, too.

I intend to keep playing until FPS death, complete decimation of our dwarfs, or the monarch demands +dwarf roast tallow+. We may try to build us a hell-colony to keep us busy, or we might move the entire fortress to the cavern level just 'cause.

EDIT: We`re still dwarfing people, don`t worry.

Can you dwarf me then? The only thing I really request is that he's male.

Sure thing. Next time I manage to sit down and play, the both of you get dorf'd.

Also, I need to build a better military. I went all the way to the adamantine with only a single marksdwarf squad. An incompetent marksdwarf squad.

Yeah, the odds of my survival when hell is breaches is pretty slim.

It's time for a pre-update atmospheric chat!

Darkpaladin has been dwarfed as our legendary +5 weaponsmith, a man who is (believe it or not) more virile than Woobmonkey and Sumyunguy. Weighing in at 12 kids, he needs to learn to keep it in his +troll fur pants+. Although having so many children might just be part of worshipping the Sudden Avalanche of Cats, which around half our fort does.

Icefire has been dwarfed as the head of our marksdwarf squad. A hardened dwarf, his only friend is his pet dog; everyone else is just a passing acquaintance.

Anyway, I thought I'd enlighten you all on the wonderous dieties of our fort!
You've already heard about Shoveth Wispconfused, the Wild Avalanche of Cats. Taking the form of a male dwarf, this diety is associate with rumors in the fort, and cat overpopulation to myself personally. It's worshiped by pretty much everyone in the fort; Woobmonkey, Sumyunguy, and Darkpaladin worship it.
Then there's Iteg. Iteg takes the form of a skeletal dwarf, and is associated with death, disease, suicide and blight. Icefire worships this. That's real metal, dude.
Reksas Mysterytongs, worshipped by myself, is a male dwarf associated with nightmares, dreams, crafts and labour. Basically, the perfect god for an Overseer.

Religion in Agepoint sure is weird.

10th Galena, 27

Adamantine production continues smoothly. In the meantime, I have other things to deal with.
First, the fort is a logistical nightmare. Hauling jobs are que'd up forever, but ignored. Food and booze production fluctuates wildly; we're in no position to take advantage of everything we have. Far too many dwarfs are still lacking proper rooms. And to top it off, the caverns are dangerous. We can't have mass activity in them without reprecussions.
I'm dealing with this in a few key ways. First, I'm going to secure the caverns by walling off key points. We don't need to take all of the caverns, but enough to give us free access to the Adamantine is crucial. Secondly, design of a minecart system to speed hauling from Overtown to Undertown and vice-versa must begin. I've been totally bamboozled trying to figure  out how to make one so far.

12th Galena, 27

Another vein of adamantine! I'm praising the miners as hard as I can, Armok!
Adamantine threads are starting to get in the hospital, somehow. I'm reworking the entire hospital storage system purely to avoid this.

17th Galena, 27

A vile force of darkness arrives. Seeing as they are led by a few elite bowmen, and come packing plenty of archers, I order the military to withdraw. We'll let them dash themselves on our gates again, I guess.
Once their head crossbow goblins are out of the way, I order the military back into the tower.

25th Galena, 27

Two dwarfs have fallen victim to enemy fire. Thankfully, neither was killed, and neither was military.
When the conflict is over, I'm going to put Sumyunguy in the marksdwarf squad. Funnily enough, she's the most competent crossbowdwarf outside the squad.

19th Limestone, 27

The siege is over. Woobmonkey risked his life attempting to charge the goblins against orders. Work resumes processing adamantine and sealing off the caverns.
(Fun fact: Woobmonkey is an atheist. Apparently he has lost faith in the Sudden Avalanche of Cats)

9th Sandstone, 27

More migrants have arrived. I've sent word to the mountainhomes to not send us any more. 200 dwarfs live here now, and we're gradually running out of food.
I'm starting up a squad of melee fighters. So far, we have two skilled speardwarfs and a competent sworddwarf. These will form the backbone of our new military, once I can equip them with weapons and armor.

22nd Sandstone, 27

After being reunited with her husband in the military, Sumyunguy promptly gives birth.
Ok. (Fun fact: I am somehow above my population cap)

13th Timber, 27

Another siege arrives. Everyone is urged to remain calm, return to the fort, and laugh.

8th Moonstone, 27

Adamantine production continues at an admirable pace. The siege has been utterly routed by our military. Equipping our military with the finest arms and armor we can provide is now our priority.

21st Moonstone, 27

Trapping the entrance to The Wall continues. The end shall be trapped with lethal weapon traps as opposed to non-lethal weapon traps; giving the marksdwarfs experience comes second to stopping trolls from destroying our surface farms. We're currently experiencing something of a plant shortage. Our stocks are still full, but our production no longer matches demand.

Nothing further of note would happen after this entry for a long while. The caverns are walled off and secure, adamantine produced, squads outfitted with weaponry. Full steel armor is procured for our 15 military dwarfs; all but one melee dwarf is equipped with adamantine weaponry. We also manage to finally house many of the vagabonds sleeping in the corridors.
All and all, a successful year for Agepoint. We might well be close to earning the city designation the king has bestowed upon us.

22nd Timber, 28

Well, it's been a long while since I wrote in this journal. Nothing much happened since our last entry. We've just been digging new rooms, securing the caverns, expanding our stocks - you know the drill. The only real thing to note is our military is now superbly equipped, and numbers 16 dwarfs.
Anyway, today our first dwarfen caravan in years shows up. I'm planning big things for it - now that our fortress is impressive, it's about time we had a proper royal governor. This caravan will show off Agepoint to the world.
Then a goblin ambush shows up. Can't have that. The invaders are no match for the caravan guards, but we have an image to uphold now.

25th Timber, 28

We didn't manage to get there in time. We'll be burying a few caravan guards this year. Not a good omen.
Another ambush arrives. Again, the military is sent out to meet them. This time I'm actually worried. The caravan guards are weakened. I can't have them kill this caravan!
This time our men are closer, and a great slaughter of goblins ensues. It's actually quite catharitic to kill them on the open field. No marksdwarfs, no traps - it really feels like we made it personal.
I send a few samples of our artifice to the King - the sheer surplus of crowns (due to Woobmonkey's strange obsession with producing them - we already have a crown so legendary it defies the laws of physics) should get him to take the hint.

11th Moonstone, 28

Woobmonkey came bursting into my office (the best in the fortress, despite my lacking of any official position or even a formal job that needs an office) demanding that we produce siege arrows. For once, this makes perfect sense. His time with the marksdwarfs has given our mayor a true sense of the fort's non-crown related priorities.
Siege engines were planned for our frontal defenses, but never implemented. Well, that changes now.

6th Opal, 28

I don't know how it happened, but our most skilled swordsdwarf managed to break a foot and an ankle. And what an injury, too. Torn muscles and skin, multiple compound fractures - this truly is the first real test of our hospital.
He was taken to bed promptly. He was then cleaned. He complains of extreme pain. Our hospital staff it seems is incredibly lazy - they've diagnosed him, listed the treatment he needs, clarified that they were available to provide it and had specialists at the ready and proceeded to sit around in the dining hall and chat. Did I mention it wasn't even them who did the cleaning, but a random garbagedwarf who took charge of the situation? It takes over a week for one of our "doctors" to remember they left him horribly mutilated and begin real treatment.
Agepoint, ladies and gentledwarfs.

28th Opal, 28

Well then. I'm actually impressed on the whole, in retrospect, at our hospital's efficiency. After I yelled at them, they really got their collective rears in gear and treated the poor dwarf.
They also used precious adamantine threads as stiches. I'd like to have them executed, but that would hurt morale and render the hospital less effective.
I mean, we've given him all the treatment that we can, really. He got infected, but that's just bad luck. He was cleaned often enough. This experience however has taught me that I need more soap, more plaster, and a better storage system.

(OOC: I noticed that there's a few massive families in the fort. If we take a few losses in unlucky places... tantrum spiral. A massive tantrum spiral. There's cousins all over this place.)

19th Obsidian, 28

Another ambush arrives. More experience for the military, I guess.
This nets another injured dwarf, this one more seriously wounded than the last. Damn. I should have let the archers handle this, it really wasn't worth the risk.

---

I'm not sure if the above actually happened because my game crashed. We'll find out tomorrow I guess.
EDIT: NOOOOOOOOOOO all progress of the winter lost.
I mean that's good in terms of my injured dwarfs, but bad in terms of me having to play through all of that again.

---

14th Timber, 28

I heard news that a great host was approaching. I hoped it was a caravan. It was goblins.
We marshall as usual. This time, the melee squad gets a few kills in due to creative stationing. The civilian alert system needs to be rewritten; many of them attempted to go view the battle and had to run back to safety under the cover of our archery tower.

5th Moonstone, 28

The siege is wiped out to the last goblin. I'm proud of our armed forces. Still, that attack probably cost us our ability to trade with the mountainhomes for the year.
A group of buzzards, attracted by the carion, attempt to breach the archery tower and succeed. Nobody is injured and all in all it was good practice for the marksdwarfs, but I've now learned that yet another renovation is required to make the tower truly secure. Buzzard's good eating though - never would have guessed it.
I notice the military is quite downcast to be relieved of duty, regardless of their complaining about having to be on duty during the pitched battle to keep goblins from eating our children. Strange.

EDIT:

It's over, folks. FPS death has arrived. I'll upload the save if anyone wants to play.
