Whitius, the price you pay for each upgrade depends on the number of relevant aptitudes you have. For example, you have

Aptititudes: Agility, Ballistics skill, Weapons skill, Fellowship, Fieldcraft, finesse, Weapon Skill

these aptitudes.

If you want to buy an upgrade that wants the aptitudes [Toughness] and [Perception] then you have no relevant aptitudes, so you pay full price (probably ~600 xp).
If it wanted the aptitudes [toughness] and [Weapons skill] then you have one relevant aptitude, so the ability is cheaper (it's now something like ~250 xp).
If the upgrade wanted the aptitudes [Agility] and [Ballistics skill] then you have two relevant aptitudes, so you pay the cheapest price - maybe something like 100xp.
