Guys I'm fairly sure this is like most X-Com games where we can only research set things, I mean its up to the GM but that kinda makes sense with the list of available research options in the OP and the way all X-Com games worked ...

what about a portable gun turret, being basically a large machine gun with basic programming and a large battery to keep it firing at anything not human shaped.
"Now, let's just deploy the turrets and..."
*pewpewpew*
"Um...we now have no truck and one damaged turret."
"What idiot programmed these things?"
That certainly would be a problem, of course, the turret I linked to acted on heat signatures, so it would fire at anything that gives of heat, back to the drawing board.
That would be even worse!
"Now let's just deploy the turrets and..."
*pewpewpew*
"OH THE HUMANI--!"
*pew*

True, but...well, this is Bay12. We don't think outside the box so much as blow up the box for daring to exist before promptly thinking a few meters from the wreckage.

That's why I said back to the drawing board, I was thinking of firing at plasma weapons and such, but that wouldn't work once we research and equip it, hmmm, any ideas? For how it fires at things I mean.
Edit: speaking of, we should upgrade that poison for the aliens so we can use it in gas grenades, the alien bastards won't know what hit them, or set their blood on fire from the inside either, small changes, small changes.

Does the alien biochemistry/anatomy/etc have any unique markers we can target somehow?

Oh, oh! I got an idea, it'll fire at anything that moves and has a heat signature, but we can make it so we can spray on/stick on something like a infra red emoter or some such, that way, it won't fire at operatives or vehicles.

It won't be good for terror missions however:

We should make a grenade that causes massive amounts of dunked ness in aliens so they fall asleep and we can capture them, or so,etching like that.

That'd require biochem research, so, yanno. :u

The Prof looked over the technical precs of the new heavy rifle, and was pleased - if any Xeno could stand up to accurate fire from this mighty weapon, then humanity wuold be in real trouble. Speaking of trouble, this weapon appeared to be about as far as conventional firearms could go in terms of long range lethality. Prof Jones would have to try and get permission to look at alternatives - lasers, gyrojets, or potentially a rail or coil gun.

Request permission for prototype small pistol variants for comparative testing purposes - one laser pistol, one gyrojet pistol, one coil/rail pistol
Several Prototypes were granted to you for testing purposes. From testing, they seem to display the following traits:

-Laser weapons seem to be extremely reliable, and high density cells grant enhanced Ammo Capacity. They also have multiple Fire modes, to increase damage and armour penetration. Damage is unexceptional. Further research could greatly increase Armour Penetration
-Gyrojet weapons display extreme lethality. However, they have a low fire rate and seem prone to jamming. Further Research could increase Reliability
-Railgun weapons would perform similarly to currently extant ballistics, but improved in all areas. They can also be used underwater.

Excellent. So, anyone got any preferences here? My first hunch would be to wait for some combat analysis of the aliens before choosing to specialize in one of the 3 options?

Railguns. Then lasers.
