On the other hand, winning (Pilgred plus cure) is actually really easy with even a handful of actives, if the Mush aren't doing anything.

well, actually finishing the cure ( or pilgred) without the appropriate skill can be quite time consuming. especially if everybody else is busy keeping the ship alive.

Finishing Pilgred without Raluca or at the very least a technician somewhere, is (pretty damn near) impossible. I'm sure some of you have managed it, but, frankly, when a game becomes that much effort I go play something else.

Well, the Ship isn't very communicative, but we've got serum and gas and alarms are coming in and we haven't exploded.  So of course, the game shows its worth as I try to get some coffee and notice that Gioele took the only cup of the day.  A little further log search shows he was messing with the infernal cube as well.  Went into the lab to get alarms to 84%, decided I'd spend my last MP grabbing the bed in medlab.  Behold, Gioele also popping pills before going to drink our coffee and play with the cube.  Cue chat rant.  And now we have a 3 cycle countdown before he gets lynched.

I am now that guy on the ship.

I tried doing the cube.... when my ship was on fire and people were dying left and right.  I survived long enough to use over 15 AP on it.  To no avail.
Ah yes... dead weight that uses resources.  Great people.

I am 'that guy' on the ship... with the gun.

It's really not that difficult. Pilgred, from 0%, with no techs and no physicists, takes...

100 goes, or 200 ap. Now, don't get me wrong, that's a lot, but... Spread across, say, 6 active characters, that's only 34ap per character, and characters get 16ap per day for 2 days, plus 1 cycle.

That means 6 non-specialists can finish it with 2 days of effort, not counting the use of rations (which you will almost assuredly be using if you're having to rush pilgred with a handful of nonspecialists).

The Cure is actually even easier, since CPU priority can be set to research, meaning you get 2% per character, meaning 6 actives with no relevant skills can finish it in a single day.

Don't get me wrong, you'll have to actually work on this stuff, which is hard to get people to do, but its certainly possible for 6 unskilled actives to finish both researchers in a little bit less than 3 days of effort, which isn't really bad at all.

Yea... lots of effort.  Motivating people to do that instead of just waiting to die can be hard.  Which would get you off the dead-end ship faster?

The issue is, each person can't just go up to pilgred, blow their AP, then go back to bed. They have to communicate and relay. Getting two people to relay successfully is a nightmare. Getting 6 to do it? Screw that.

you would need a big enough crew, wonderfully matched time zones, and no other worry. when half the crew is dead and you are swarmed by hunters and fires, it is a bit hard.

Cure is indeed easier, and we are finishing it even with hopelessly mismatched time zones. although it is day 14 now, and we are all busy fixing the ship. and getting injured from falling metal plates. but as soon as cure is done, our crew of 9 can focus on staying alive.

You're lucky you don't get sanctioned for that kind of stuff. Players in this game are really trigger happy with reporting for any reason. The mod team doesn't fill me with confidence either.   ::)

You just gotta know when it is 'safe', regardless of people reporting or not.

Day 16 with my current "rando" ship. I didn't think these guys had it in them, but they've really pulled it together. I'm so proud. T_T

Well, we're at 12% hull and my Ian is at 4 morale.  Because I ate 2 bananas and somehow missed all other morale boosters besides connection to sol, it looks like I'll be dead by the d6/c2.  On the bright side, with such an inactive ship I got to use my AP on a bunch of random stuff, so hooray for learning.  It's actually pretty funny that yesterday I was just hoping the ship would end, but this morning I decided to throw a repair on the hull out of spite.

I really hope it keeps all the bittervets who went inactive when the rations were wasted on the ship at least a few more cycles.  As Ian I kept the banana trees rolling and helped out with a bunch of random stuff (Research, Turret action, aformentioned amateur hull repair).  I will sadly not live to see my first saplings mature.  Also didn't get to do the thing once, that was the real bummer.
