What a strange looking game. Looks like a mutant baby of FTL and SS13. How the hell is this played?

Mix SS13 with a facebook game like Mafia wars.... and you got a somewhat accurate image.

Right. Is it one of the 'Only X actions per day' games?

Yeah pretty much.

Every 3 to 1 hour (3 is standard) you get one action point... and everything takes 1-3 action points. and once in a while you will get an emergency which will eat up all your action points.

You also get movement points as well at the same speed except you can eat an action point for three movement points in an emergency.

Hmm, well, I'm going to give a random game a try, and see if I can be active enough with my spotty availibility before I commit to a bay12 game.

Apparently that's an Eleesha thing, but it's curable if you lie down in the same room as the psychologist for several cycles.

Eleesha is the ships primary mush hunter. Her investigative abilities are incredibly useful for figuring out what is actually going on. How exactly that works depends on which skill you took, though.

Eleesha on my ship right now is being a total badass on the scumhunting front, but that's because we are also a well organized ship with lots of communication. Everybody should be reporting everything, and when they dont... well, when they don't, she's the one who catches them out on their lies.

I am on my 5th game and... I still have yet to be a mush.  >:(

Damn it.

I bet when it happens it'll be one of the few times I'll be with an actual competent crew as well.

It's no fun if they aren't.

I think I'll give this game a try. Any good characters to pick for a newbie? Someone non-critical so that I can ease myself into the game.

Ian is a good starter, as is Gioele, Raluca and Stephen. Chun is actually also okay.

Reason I say Raluca is because there is no way in hell your ship will survive until the Pilgred repairs are finished, so no pressure! Kuan Ti is also okay if you can manage to work on projects.

I give you that, but I would hate to be busted for doing something obvious when playing it if I have no prior experience.

Out of all of those people Chun seems to be the only choice open to me, so... here I go! I'm not expecting things to go well on my very first game though.

Okay, quick starting guide to playing Chun.

You are going to be spending most of your time hanging out in the Lab. As long as you are there, certain research options are open. When you start, research antispore gas ONCE. If you see anyone else has researched it (accessed the research console), then research it again after them. That is because research loses efficiency the more times in a row a single person performs it, but is reset when someone else performs it.

People will also occasionally ask you to verify things because of the entire crew, you are the only one immune to being infected by the Mush. When the time comes, you can also assist in Mush investigations, but since you are new, don't worry about that for now.

Know that if you spend the cycle change in a bed, you get 2 AP instead of 1, so try to end your day (irl) in a bed. This gives you a nice stockpile of AP for the next day.

Is that Eleesha gold?  Carrying the level 3 skill(looks like a magnifying glass)?  That probably makes a huge difference in Eleesha's awesomeness.   Cause ya know... all I can do is track coming and goings as silver Eleesha...
Which makes me excel at tracking people taking stuff at the very least.

It allows you to REALLY put a stop to people stealing stuff, it allows you to figure out where Mush went once discovered, it allows you to verify their stories check out. Yes, her additional skills make it even better, but just tracking alone is pretty good, since it allows you to follow people's trails exactly.

Really useful if someone hides something important too

I've been on top of that.  I don't think anything is unaccounted for actually.  Maybe.  Ok, I don't really know where ALL the fire extinguishers are.
Our Chun is carrying the armor, which is a pretty good idea actually...  and our crazy cook is still holding the knife, but he seems to be helping.
I've actually moved every expedition item over to the expedition bay.  (I think it is each and every one of em, minus the knife.)
