In my last ship I was Jin. The alpha mush finally revealed itself and began taunting us as oxygen was low. He jumped into a patrol craft and said "Haha you can't get me out here. I'll watch you all suffocate."

So I loaded 1 fuel in the engine and moved the ship. Suddenly no more mush.

Nope.  That's what happens when the ship explodes.  When O2 runs out, players (thought just humans) suffocate one by one each cycle.

However, we hit 0 O2 and my character, a converted mush, died.  Totally surprised me.  If I'd known I -could- suffocate, I would have jumped into a space suit.

Space suits don't prevent O2 deaths. But I think the chance of a mush dying from suffocation is much lower than humans dying, because I always see mush being one of the last to die.

Thats because the mush usually grab an oxy canister when things run low insuring they are the last to die and speeding the process along.

Also there is a third shower in the medbay but it only opens up if the first two have been destroyed and is only usable once per day.  It was a later addition to the game designed specifically to counter the popularity of that strat

Also, Muz, I think it's very important for Mush to realize what their actual goal is. It's not to infect everyone on the ship - it's to insure that the voyage fails. Ultimately, a well prepared, responsible, and active human team should be able to root out and defeat the Mush guaranteed. At which point it becomes about the Mush doing as much as they can to lower the chance of the Mission succeeding.

If the crew is good enough, the Mush should, eventually, die.

Well, the Mush glory version is for the voyage to end in quick doom.   The true win is to go to eden with everyone on board as mush. 

But... I don't think mush can get tickets for long survival, so glory and death it is...

Yeah, but if you wanted to destroy the ship, it's just too easy. The game is messed up in that there's a lot of easy, lame mush tactics in which nobody really has fun. Infecting everyone in the ship is more fun and creates a lot more drama. I'm not too opposed to the shower dismantling strategy because at least someone has fun.

There's a lot of actual mush wins too. Past 4 crew infected, it becomes really hard to stop them because you can no longer trust anyone, even people who were innocent early on. Anonymush causes a lot of paranoia with ships past 4 days - I've seen two ships where it made a world of difference.

Chun starts off with a special skill that makes her completely immune to the Mush. So, not only can she not start as Mush, she also can never be converted into a Mush. Hence why a lot of Mush hunting strategies call for Chun to oversee them. She's the only crewmember that you definitely know is human.

Chun can be the pet human.  There comes a time when you cannot hide the fact that half the crew is now mush... or I guess you can have a health kit and a shrink dedicated to keep an inactive up... (which basically invalidates another active).

Yes, after all 16 players are out of the sleeping chamber.

There is a distinct preference for players who have NOT run through the tutorial though. Players who've been on a few ships have much higher odds of being selected (but it's still random, not a guarantee)

I've yet to be the alpha mush. I was infected once, and immediately called out as mush by the alpha. That didn't make much sense to me.

if he did that, to the eyes of the crew it looked like a person managed to unmask an alpha mush, and now they are safe. and that person is most likely trustworthy.

I didn't see. He infected me and then murdered me.

That may have been his plan though. If so, its quite clever.
