Waters gets up, and as Ashedown leaves, two armored guards wielding electrical batons enter. The Hall Monitors. They beat him back to the ground and haul him outside. The other Monitor goes for Hellings, but he holds his own. It doesn't last and he too is taken.
...
[Sullivan] scoffs, but is shocked by the Monitor. You hear them being beaten outside as well.
Hm. This school is either a lawsuit waiting to happen, or doesn't deserve half the prestige it has. Or there's something else going on...

Answering the nerds;
"You do? Keep that in mind then."

Follow-up  towards the two no-name bullies that grabbed us;
"I remember favors - and to repay them."

Glaring is optional, but very encouraged. After we make sure that we remember the bullies' faces, give a curt nod to the nerds and resume our phonecall. Also, remember if we have any active knowledge of the occult - spells, rituals or curses, that kinda stuff.

Not only a lonely wolf, but an occult oddball to boot - hope my idea of that combo is on the money. ;3

Eh. A bit...selfish, violent, and vindictive for my tastes/vision of Aida. I'd prefer something like:

"Thanks. I'll...keep that in mind."
Don't follow the bullies to the principal's office.

I agree +1 to GWG

Really now?

Alright - explaining time.
The reason the nerds were bullied are that their social standing is too low, as that the popular / majority group would help them, and that they - obviously - also fail to do so themselves.

The bullies thus used a display of power - physically and groupwise - to lower the nerds social standing, while subsequently heightening their own. Heightening your status is - hardwired - fun and accomplishing. The "real" reason, if you would ask the bullies.

We currently have no social standing, and thus no safety-net. If the bullies would lash out at the casual group, it would lower their status with a whole lot of people - threatening a violent response from a bigger group. Not happening unless the bullie-group is either numerous or threatening / strong enough.

While we did a display of power in attacking, we lost - or at least did not win. My first sentence is cold, because friendly contact with the nerds has a good chance to land us in their - the victim group. The vindictive part is obviously a threat of violence, aimed at saving face in the social sense, and to intimidate against future attacks. Even if we come into conflict later, the rest of the class will have a clear-cut reason for it on hand VS Random violence which would lower our standing.

Here's the thing...

1. Aida doesn't really seem to care what other people think of her. Victim or predator, it doesn't matter to her.
2. She hasn't been impolite to much of anyone; my vague mental image suggests that she would be. Certainly, there's no reason not to be.
3. Your idea of threatening the bullies requires that we leave in the middle of class, run after the bullies being escorted by paramilitary school guards, then threaten the bullies in front of said paramilitary school guards. That's not aloof, or apathetic, or lone-wolfish; that's stupidly vindictive, except without any vengeance done.

1+2 Fair enough, as we are currently shaping the character. All views of our protagonist are still open.
3. There are 4 bullies - the one we kicked down, the two that grabbed us and the one who helped us. The 2 guards are only escorting the first and the last - as they seem to be the "leaders". I suggested talking to the two which - seemingly, as the teacher only called out two - are still in the classroom.

Edit - fairly sure we are still in recess - last we heard from the teacher was about him leaving. Considering that he is likely to yell at those who went with the guards, it will take a while ;З

Alright, we don't have to worry about the paramilitary guards. Instead, we're getting up in the middle of class and threatening people in front of the teacher. Still a problem, just one likely to lead to beatings slightly later rather than immediate beatings.

Turn I: Detention

"Um, thanks. I'll keep that in mind."

The nerds go back to their group, and you can hear Martin clearly exaggerate about how he saved you from the evil orcs, aka bullies. You sigh. You walk over to the two bullies on the floor, both in pain. Hellings sure can punch. One is bleeding and the other has a tooth a few inches from his mouth.

"Hey."

They look up at you, and as they see you their eyes open up and crawl away. You're not that scary, are you? You turn to face Luce, who has materialized into a monster form.

"Don't worry. Only they can see me right now. Just making sure they don't touch my cute little sister ever again!"

"We aren't related, and technically I'm the same age as you are," you whisper.

You return to your corner and pull out your phone. "Hey, isn't it illegal to beat up students?"

"Yeah. Under the national law. But this school is its own nation. It literally bought this land from the nation. In here, conventional justice is a work of science-fiction."

"Why didn't those robocop hall monitors take those two bullies?" you ask, gesturing to the two bullies cowering on the floor.

"They arrested the leaders. They can't be bothered cleaning up the lesser thugs. The teachers prefer to strike at the head, metaphorically, most of the time. Keeping the strongest and most influential away keeps the bullies leaderless."

The bell rings. Mr. Ashedown returns and commands everyone to return to their seats. "Your first lesson today is Maths. Please take out your textbooks."

One of the bullies shouts. "Oi, bloke. Where's Sully?"

"Hm? Hellings? I'm afraid you'll have to wait. Detention is a dangerous place. But you'll see him soon in assembly."

The bully gets up from his chair. "Detention? Are you insane? It's the first day of school, and you're sending him to that hellhole?"

"Mind your tongue. If your done, you've wasted enough time. We're returning to class."

Thirty minutes of Maths has been boring, but at least it's over. It's notlw the changing period; when students get their books and the next teacher prepares. The bully from earlier approaches you.

"Ey you. It's your fault that Sully's in Detention. If it weren't for you he wouldn't've been thrown in there."

"Back off. What's so bad about detention anyways? Staying an hour afterschool isn't that bad."

"Ha. Is that what you think Detention is? Detention is a prison. Without the laws or guards. A No Man's Land, they call it, cuz whatever's in there ain't no man."

Another of this school's twisted punishments. Being homeschooled in a rural village has left you unprepared for this strange society. And they call villagers barbaric.

"What do you want me to do about it? Write a complaint?"

"Bust him out!" A camera immediately zooms into him. He whispers, "This is your fault. He doesn't deserve to rot in there."

"I'm not helping you."

He gets down on his knees. "Please. I know him and I seem like jerks and asses, but he's a nice guy. I'll do anything. Just help me out. You're stronger than I am, I'll admit. Stronger than most of my boys. But the best part is you don't look like us. They won't suspect you."

Will you help the bully?

What kind of place is this?

Why do parents send their kids here?

How has there been no repossession of territory, or invasions, or something?

Doesn't nationally-bought land usually remain part of the nation it was part of? (See: The Homestead Act, virtually every other time any nation has sold land to citizens albeit on smaller scales, etc.)

Also: No. Why would we? There's too much of a chance of being caught, and we don't even like the guy. Besides, if we do get caught, we'll be in the same boat.

No - if detention is a bad as he claims, why would we want to do something that would almost certainly get us put in there?

Agreed with previous posters
If we would help someone, it would be Mr. "I-Its not because you are cute or anything!"
Well, If indeed.
