Chapter 1: Garden Gambit

Turn 24

Alright then;

Oscars fiery dash will take out a troll, if it is used at max range, and his claws draw blood. If ignacio gets a hit in with the bow, we will have a little safety padding, so lets do that first. If oscar is in range this round, after the dash, else this round.

We really want that elvish newb dead, more so then normal. Ithan fires his bow at the northernmost fencer - unless said newb is in range. Wishbone gets to hunt the newb in the first setting, the way idealy cleared by an arrow.

Kuhscheisse gets to hide in the western corner.

*Mewl* "I'm not quite in range. Its almost as if somebody designed this map with that spell in mind. I'm only 2m out, and that spell is a full round action. I know, I'll step back a meter or two so I'll have a longer buildup next round!"

"Arrow... fly! Strike at the troll!"

"Ignacio's attack roll of 5 is very, very bad. He'd have to be shooting something rather large to score a hit with a roll like that. Luckily the troll's huge size and low AC are just what the doctor ordered; The arrow hits home, lodging itself in the beast's thick neck for the maximum 6 damage."

Ithan also attempts an attack with his bow, and also ends up with a final roll of 5. Sadly elven newbs are much harder to hit than friggin trolls, and the Antman's arrow flies wide.

"Drat."

"Time to intercept that nobody before he gets to the big red button that should never be pressed! Zooooooooooooom! Don't stop me nowwwwww! I'm having such a good time! I'm killing em all..."

"Wishbone dashes Northeast to intercept the apprentice before he can free the second troll. The escort flees west. Then the baddies move.

Two of the Fencers move north and intercept Wishbone's interception with some some nice pointy sword attacks. The first elf hits with a 25 attack roll, just barely missing a crit. The Fence Fencer's attack inflicts the minimum 3 damage to its skeletal target.

The second fencer swings his sword, and also scores a hit. The elf's blade inflicts a maximum nine damage and carves the Skturkey into hundreds of tiny pieces! Wishbone has been struck down!

The rest of the foes, save for the newb who travels north, move closer to the main party!

"Heheh... carves... I'm a turkey... I see what you did there... blegh" *De-animates*

"Nooooooooo! I FREAKIN LIKED THAT GUY! Players, please, order me to cast one of my strongest spells, so that I may unleash heaven or hell of these [terrible racist slur omitted]s"

We have a troll and we would like to use it.

Summon Possessor.

Side note: What the hell, GWG and escaped lurker? Why would you send Wishbone to his death like that. This is what I get for not posting in this thread for a few days. :(

Ithan: You know what you must do. Summon the dragon! I am pretty sure that there are enough elves there to boost us up to 100, and knowing my brother the way I do, he probably made this room a pseudo boss fight just to troll us before the escort leaves. Therefore, we can summon the dragon.
Ignacio:Pew pew! Shoot the elvish newb!
Oscar:You know, trolls win flame wars too often. Not today. Melt his face off with a fiery dash.

Weirdsound: Explain the mechanics behind escaping an encounter, just in case.

He's supposed to be a melee attacker! Just like the monk...oh.

Weird sound I have two things to ask you, first was it you that made that night troll game? And second what kind of offering would we have to make for you to return wishbone to us, and can it please be legal.

Chapter 1: Garden Gambit

Turn 25

Weirdsound: Explain the mechanics behind escaping an encounter, just in case.

"Voluntary escape, for any character, may occur when you are within 1 round of movement from something that clearly looks like an exit from the room.

Involuntary escape for all surviving characters will occur should the main character die. At which point the party will split, and one of the survivors will become the new main character. Quests and items will be lost, but if possible, a recruitment chance will be placed in an unexplored adjacent room to speed along the party re-building process."

Side note: What the hell, GWG and escaped lurker? Why would you send Wishbone to his death like that. This is what I get for not posting in this thread for a few days. :(

"That's not fair. Nobody had any means for specifically measuring distance or giving extremely percise instructions on where to move. Lurker and GWG could have just assumed that Wishbone would end up out of reach, and the assumption wasn't an entirely unreasonable one given the circumstances.

HEY! I GOT IT!"

*Ahem* "By the power invested in me by this 7 year old piece of crap laptop that can't even really run 2d Indie games anymore, I hearby declare the grid on the maptools file 'GRL2.cmpgn' VISIBLE!

There. That should help with further confusion."

Ithan: You know what you must do. Summon the dragon! I am pretty sure that there are enough elves there to boost us up to 100, and knowing my brother the way I do, he probably made this room a pseudo boss fight just to troll us before the escort leaves. Therefore, we can summon the dragon.

Oscar:You know, trolls win flame wars too often. Not today. Melt his face off with a fiery dash.

"Thank you guys. Now they burn. FOR WISHBONE! Et fecisti malum in ant opes! Invocabo draconum iram divinae omnino delebit!"

"A small, yet impressive looking, silver wyrm appears on the battlefield. The party is enveloped in a golden flash as Ithan's Divine Blessing kicks in."

"This energy... It is amazing! TRY SOME ELFISH SCUM!"

"Ignacio fires, but sadly his attack roll of 11 is not enough to hit the newb."

"You want a flamewar, you inbred greenskined homophobic nazi attention whore? I'll give you a flamewar! Mewmewmewmew!"

Oscar kicks in the nitro and launches himself the full 10m at the troll! His attack roll of 22 barely misses threatening a rather unnecessary critical hit. The flaming fury missile connects with the target, inflicting 2 damage, 1 holy damage, and a whopping 20 fire damage! The troll troll is gibbed! Ash, blood, and guts begin raining down upon the battlefield!

The Silver Wyrmling moves south, and lines up the two nearest fencers for a blast of its Silver Beam spell! The Wrymling inhales deeply, and exhales a beam of destructive mass and energy with a modified attack roll of 20! The two elves each take 6 Holy Damage, 1 Fire Damage, and 6 Earth Damage! Both are reduced to sparkly red smears!

The remaining elves move! The fencers who destroyed wishbone head east. Judging by their rate of movement, they can both enter melee range with Oscar next round if the cat stays in place.

The newb heads north. It looks like he will reach the lever next round...

"Indeed I made that game. If you are interested in my darker fantasy work, check out my current Magia Exquisitis game. It is full, and the format in which it is played means that not everybody who is interested in it would be able to play anyway, but I keep logs of the stuff that happens in maptools so anybody can follow. I've yet to run a Magia campaign that doesn't get dark and nasty within the first IC week, so it should be right up the b12's alley. [/shameless self promotion]

As for Wishbone, he is my favorite character so far, but I am trying really hard to maintain the rouglike theme of 'death is not cheap'. When I noticed he was destroyed, I literally fudged the lethal roll and wrote the rest of the turn with him surviving, before deciding to keep the integrity of the game and obey the dice at the last minute.

He may come back, but it wont be easy to do, nor will it happen anytime too soon. When/if it happens, I promise it will be awesome, cathartic, and worth the effort."

: "As one of said characters, I dispute the fact it got "Dark" in the first week. Rather, that happened in the second week, what with the prison and airport and all. The second one just skipped to the traumatising material off the bat though..."

My monitor is acting up, and holy crap is that terrifying. It's half a grinning face, laughing, orangish-in-tint and grainy, surrounded by an abyss of black.

Quote

Also a bit scary, but not nearly so much as the laughing half-face from Hell.

Quote

Ignacio looks kinda like a pasty yellow thing. A bit odd, certainly unusual for Ignacio, but not particularly scary.

Quote

Another creepy one. Another grinning face, this one with shoulders and clasped hands visible, still tinted that disturbing orange, still surrounded by darkness.

Pretty much all of note, but the battle map looks a bit creepier.

Thank you. This has been "Malfunctioning Monitor Madness. Next time: Will rebooting solve the issue? (Probably!)

Um...is the silver wyrm on the map?

Um...is the silver wyrm on the map?
He's below and to the right of Ithan.

Ithan: Shoot the elvish newb. Back up.
Oscar: Back up.
Ignacio: Shoot an elven fencer. Back up.

Good job Oscar, seriously. That last turn had me REALLY nervous, and it went far better than I expected. Ithan, I have to admit I have had my doubts about your choice in spellbook before, but they have pretty much all evaporated after the last turn.

Much less creepy (and much more face) after a reboot.

Chapter 1: Garden Gambit

Turn 26

"Before we begin with the turn, I must deal with a few housekeeping items that I forgot last turn.

First off: You killed two elves. +14% to the quest success-o-meter.
Secondly: Ithan summoning the dragon caused his new cloak to turn an embarrassing (and AC hindering) neon pink. The item has been identified as the Ranger's Honor Cloak. See Ithan's sheet for details on how it works."

"Dammit. I thought the cloak was free AC, no strings attached! Guess thats why Syn tried to shoot us from melee range... Got to be careful where I summon now, unless I want to be caught with 2 AC."

"Thanks... The book is special to me. I stole it and a few others when I broke out of the academy. I had to go into fire magic, because when the experimented on me they taught me how to burn my soul to fuel fire spells. I wouldn't be free today if it wasn't for this book and the use of four extra lives..."

+1 Chemistry between nuclearwhale and Oscar

"Right. Time to stop my cloak from trying to kill me, by attempting to murder an elf in cold blood with a bow!"

"I too... will also let fly an arrow. My skill with the blade may not match that of these elves, but I am not above a bit of cowardice."

"Ignacio and Ithan both pick an elf and open fire!

The Antman moves first, notching an arrow and taking careful aim at the newb! The attack roll is a natural 20, which is enough to identify the new bow as a BOW OF 'SPLOSIONS! The roll to confirm is a natural 19, so the attack is critical! The arrow lodges into the newb's neck before exploding, inflicting 12 damage and 2 Fire damage! The elf seems to have vanished...

FLARE GUN SUCCESS RATE AT 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ignacio takes the next shot. His attack roll of 13 is just barely enough to hit a fencer. His attack scrapes the westernmost fencer's arm and inflicts a single point of damage.

All remaining party members back off, but the summoned wyrmling charges forward! It moves in close to the remaining elves, clears its throat, and unleashes a silver missile from its mouth at the one shot by Ignacio! The wyrmling's attack roll of 13 is enough to tie the Elf's AC, and ties go to the attacker! The elf takes 5 Holy Damage, and 1 Earth Damage!

The wounded elf and its companion respond by closing in on the divine summon, and hacking at it with their blades! The first fails with an attack roll of 18. The second comes up with a 15, and doesn't do any better. Both rapiers bounce harmlessly off the little wyrm's scales.

The elf that is nearly dead is furthest to the north!
It seems like the troll situation has been defused...

"Mother of god... now thats what I call a summon."

"I know, right? I'll tell you what. I'm going to take a shower now. If one of the players says I can just let the summon do the rest of the fighting for you all before I finish, we can probably finish this battle up tonight real quick. Otherwise, I have to crash soon."
