Chapter 1: Garden Gambit

Turn 13

Yep. Ithan, Oscar, Gronk, Ignacio and the escort should go North.

"You move right along to the next room, once again leaving the Jackal out of any fight that may be waiting for you. Upon entering, you find a fight waiting for you.

Four elves clad in green ready bows and knifes to fight you. They have a pair of Jackals with them. The leader of the opposing party respectfully wishes you good luck."

"May fortune shine upon you in battle!"

"I'd say the same, but I don't have a rich monarchy waiting to revive me should I die here, so I can only wish you a quick and painless end."

"Time for Gronk to make some clobberings!"

"Not the best odds, if we are looking at this in terms of pure numbers. Ready Don Oscar? ...Ready to cook?"

"I was awakened ready! Lets do this!"

"I HERE HIM! OSCAR IS OVER THERE!"

"Shitshitshit! It's the academy goons come to take me back! My hunted ability must have activated!"

"Damn straight. You gonna come quietly?"

"No, way! I'd rather blow all my remaining lives tha- Weirdsound. Why do both those academy guys look like Marlon Brando?"

"Because that was the first image on creative commons image search when I entered 'animal control officer' as input."

"That explains why I'm so damn handsome then! Now then... Here KITTY KITTY KITTY!"

Input Battle Commands Here!

Ithan: Summon Cherub to the south-east of us, facing the two Marlon Brandos.

Gronk+Ignacio: Move up and make a defensive wall between the cliffside and tree.

Oscar: Move behind Gronk and Ignacio and cast Puff of Flame at the elf on the tree stump.

Miss Kuhscheiße: Go hide in the tree stump at the south west for the time being.

I think we should focus on the animal control officers and ignore the elves for now...

Bad news so far:
-Elves. Elves with bows. Elves with bows hiding up trees. Damn it.
-Academy Cat-Catchers have shown up! Uh oh.
-We are kinda outnumbered. Just a bit.

Good news so far:
-The Cat-Catchers are both elves! Maybe they count toward our elf-scalp quota.
-The Cat-Catchers are basically unarmed. As long as they can't get to Oscar, they are not threats.
-The Elves are weak against fire. Oscar has fire. All the fire.
-If we drop an empowered locust swarm just south of that jackel by the log, we should hit like five people at once with it. It might even do extra damage to the plant symbiote elves. Wowzah!

My tactical advice says:

Ignacio and Gronk: Go beat up the Cat Catchers! Your burly stone bodies will crush them.
Ithan: Summon a swarm and use a ration to embiggen it. Swarm everyone!
Oscar: Burn Elf. Cheesecake's Puff of Flame idea sounds good.

That's what I was planning. Gronk and Ignacio are just there to make a wall, with Oscar near them and farther from the Cat catchers. Plus having Oscar near Ithan fighting would do no good, cuz the Marlon Brandos have Fire Immunity.

Ithan nearly died in a single turn. He should get the boon.

Voting for this. Ithan, aim it so you hit as many elves as you can.
I think the civilian should charge any elves not hit by the locusts menacingly. She has 18 HP, and is therefore more of a tactical asset than a liability.

Here's the question: Do we want to enhance strengths, so that we are better at what we do but worse at what we don't...or do we shore up our weaknesses, make each member of the group more suited to anything that could be thrown our way?

She has no place in combat. No weapon, no armor, no combat training. I'm not even sure we can directly control her!

I think we can get better front-line fighters than a pair of sandstone golems. If so, it's less about enhancing strengths, and more about a temporary vs. a permanent buff.

She doesn't need to fight. She just needs to look like more of a threat than Oscar.

Does anyone else notice the threat color around that crate in the east? I think Gronk should stop it from threatening us after the battle ends.

On the other hand, it seems to me that the sandstone golems are rather capable, especially if we level them up a bit.

I don't see that happening. "Knows fire spells" puts you above "No armor, weapons, or magic" every time.

It you see a woman with a staff and a (bath)robe in a rpg, you will think healer. If the woman has a hateful or cold look, you think black mage. We know she has nothing, but the enemies don't.

Also note when battle over: Will a Elven Rapier benefit Ignacio? And is the other one better for Ithan then his knife? I drouth the armours can fit the golems, but Ithan may be able to.

...They'll notice that she doesn't have any staff, and that she is running at them instead of hanging back to avoid getting killed. And, you know, to heal.

But they don't have a web browser to look at the Party Information and Bestiary and thus can only see

Speaking of which, i forgot to say I think she should hide. I'm just talking for other points of views since then I can balance my choice.

On the other hand, presumably they aren't staring at a battle mat, either. Presumably, they are looking at our actual (staffless) escort.
