I used to play, been thinking about getting back to the game but I saw some stuff about a new update possibly on the way so I thought I'd wait. Just a little annoying for me to get back to the game at any given moment though since I honestly have an intense dislike for dwarves. So I need to mod them out before playing.

I'm like many, I usually play DF intensely until a fort explodes then tell myself to make another but don't. Currently I'm waiting for the update like other people, hoping it comes out before winter break so I can try it out. I'm here for the community, because once I discovered games under the radar that I liked Other Games just stuck with me.

I play off-and-on.  Sometimes I'll go at for a week or more, just playing nothing but DF, sometimes I'll go months without playing, sometimes I'll just play a few hours total in a month.  It's fairly random.  I've been doing that for... more than six years now?  Wow, It's amazing how much time has passed.

DF has remained in my rotation (and held the spot of "favorite game") because it's constantly updating.  There's always new features, and it's constantly getting better and better.  Plus, I just like the genre, and nothing does it -quite- as well as DF.

It's funny, I've played for more than six years, and only discovered B12, what, three years ago?  Now I spend more time reading stuff here then I do playing the game.  B12 pretty quickly became my favorite internet forum after I discovered it, primarily because it isn't chock full of idiots.  (Most) people here are intelligent.  It's wonderful.

Hardcore DF players lurk in the upper boards. Lower boards have the group who don't really,play. You'll actually see a lot of threads repeated in DF general discussion and General Discussion. That's how split up the community is.

I do love me some DF, but I hate the changes to the city system, what with the tunnels and stuff. Anf all the micro. I find that Rimworld fits the balance between gory city builder and fantasy world simulator.

As many people here I haven't played in a while, I just lurk on the lower boards and even on the upper one just to feel the madness from players. I'm mostly waiting for the caravan arc to be done as, for me, trading is broken and somewhat useless at the same time right now, I want some real trade agreements between the civ (like bring me 100 iron bars, not 4 rocks when I ask for it, and have high expectations in return).

I also think Toady is as dedicated as any programmer can get, and that is something to witness.
