Embarking Icons
« on: November 22, 2013, 08:13:39 am »

Could someone explain to me the meaning of all the icons when choosing a zone in which to embark??

I understand all of the colours, and as far as i'm aware.... the statue is dwarves and the cabinet is goblins, and the yellow tower is elves??

Please, enlighten me

I think yes, although I think it's a cup.

It doesn't matter, really, because they find you everywhere.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

That didnt really answer the initial question as to what are the meanings of ALL icons, i understand theres a cup, as well as a sort of two-towersesque icon for the elves.

Really, you can just look at the wiki here: http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Local_map_features

Appreciated, but as i'm using a tileset seeing as i'm new to the game and it's recommended to do so.. hence mentioning  the cabinet and cup in the comments above.

Basically, yes, statues are dwarves, cabinets are goblins. Elves have various stuff that is yellow and humans get the rest, like chests.

Only thing you have to take in consideration, though, is purple I (It's probably not turned into tile, as it is a letter). That's the necromancer tower and you shouldn't live close to it. Others will get to you anyway, except when you separated by sea.

Point taken. Volcanoes look like water, except red in the local map and are the same distinctive red in the larger map.

Volcanoes look like red trap on global map.
