I'd just play the current version. The next version probably isn't going to see a 2013 release, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

It seems to be that the timing of releases can be similar to releases of NetHack (i.e. when it's ready), but at least we know that this devteam still exists :P

This reminded me of Conan O'Brien's video game rating system.
