Question about Bedrooms
« on: November 20, 2013, 01:00:28 pm »

If I build a lot of the 1x4 bedrooms and place a bed, container, dresser and a door, do I need to assign each bed to a dwarf or will the dwarves sort that out for me?

Thanks in advance!

You'll have to make each a bedroom, but you don't have to assign each one.  They'll grab an empty bedroom themselves.  You use the assign to get important dwarves to have the correct bedroom.

Thank you so much, I normally die from fun when I hit 50+ dwarves. I assign every single one a bedroom. It gets tedious.

I did as well the first few times that I played.

I think everyone goes through this realization, and realizes they spent tens of hours scrounging through lists to assign dwarves to bedrooms before figuring out the secret behind auto-room-claiming.

I began to notice it when I would assign a bed and it would show 2 dwarves.

And then another set of hours dealing with vampires, only to figure out that they were better off with a large, communal dormitory in the first place.  XD

I always forgot if it's fixed by now, I don't think so, but with bedrooms for everyone that you don't assign manually, the vampire is the one who didn't claim a bedroom since he didn't go to bed yet and won't

Actually that happens from dwarves with spouses. One person sleeps there/is assigned the room, it becomes both of their rooms.

Most migrants come with spouses in my experience, so normally you only need about 60% as many bedrooms as you have dwarves. But it doesn't hurt if you're planning on a long term fort, need bedrooms for the kids. But that's only if you're not doing what I'm doing, and having absolutely no care for their wellbeing. I recently threw all 40 goblin prisoners into the arena, without disarming them, who promptly de-limbed most of the military.

In which case, rooms get freed up fast.
