One of the things that ruined the game for me, was mainly the fact that a guy who hated orc, stated how much he hated orcs. Me unmistakenly being an orc, without looking or sounding like he would hate me.

Kind of like how I, being an orc, walk into an orc stronghold in skyrim and they tell me I wouldn't understand orc ways because I'm not an orc, and keep calling me 'outlander' and commenting on how I am not 'blood-kin/one of malacath's children' etc.

Yeah but at lest there's mods to fix that.

@forsaken: You might be a City Orc and not a "true" Orc such as themselves.

In morrow industry* and oblivion, it manifested itself as a hit to your persuasion score with that individual, albeit almost never in actual conversation dialogue.

Maybe, but this continues even after you do the quest to become blood-kin or whatever and are welcomed into the place. Its just a case of them not adding additional dialog. Like when guards and staff refer to you as 'that new apprentice from the college' when you are the archmage.

Any opinions from those who have played since Unlimited? It sounds like they've patched a lot of the issues people had with the game.

As someone who has enjoyed but eventually gotten bored with both other MMO's and Elder Scrolls games, is this worth trying now?

They have added and fixed a lot.  But some of the huge bugs that made the game unplayable are still there.

For example if anyone played in the past and had the bug with infinite loading screens, you will be disappointed to know that after nearly a year it is still there. It seems to have been reduced in the number of folks reporting it, but according to my fiend who has it in spades, for those who still have it, it is a gamekiller and even worse than it was before.  With around a 50-50 chance of the game failing to load on any loading screen, even when first logging into the game.

He sent me this handy dandy gif he made of the Tamriel Experience.

Zenimax's response is to turn off addons and restart the computer and try again.  But since my friend is running on a fresh install with no addons and that the game is borderline unplayable without addons due to massive vanilla UI holes. (no threat indicators, no minimap...) That answer seems to be a joke.

Fortunately I myself no longer seem to have the infinite loading screen.  And there do seem to be a number of decent polish improvements.  You can finally dye armor now, the justice system goes a long way towards making it feel more like an elder scrolls game (but you can only fence 50 items a day) most of the bugged to uselessness skills have been fixed, (though I hear werewolf is still very underpowered and more useful for the passive stamina buff than the actual ww form).

Personally I would say if you already own the box and don't have the infinite loading screen it's worth a try.  If you don't have the box, or if you notice the infinite loading bug, pass.  Even no sub it's not worth the box price, but it's not bad 'free'.

So I decided to see if it was any better. Figured instead of ranting about it, I'd see if my opinion was wrong or changed.

But...this was my initial impressions

Sorceror pets still suck like hell, there is no point to them. WoW has FAR better pets and I thought WoW had crappy pets for hunters...after ESO...WoW looked like a 5 star hotel for pets. Don't even know why its in the game. Haven't made any changes.

So sorcerors still suck (I only play pet classes in MMOs)...already a downer

Then I try casting spells, but the spells barely do any damage compared to a 2 handed mace I picked up.

So I go to town and talk to a merchant or npc or whoever he was, but accidentally attack him...he dies in one hit (I think someone else came by and attacked him too), 2 guards attack...I defend myself as its going crazy with things going on and I have no idea what was happening. I honestly thought it was an event they added to spice up the game where the cities (daggerfall in this case) get attacked.

I end up running as they are super powerful, with a 1k bounty. And I only have 100 some gold.

I logged off and gave the account to a friend, and removed the game and subbed to FFXIV.

Hopefully my friend finds more enjoyment than I do, though he only plays pet classes too...so I dunno.

After watching some twitch livestreams I decided to take the plunge and buy into ESO. Only been playing a couple days so far, but I have no regrets. While the game isn't particularly innovative, it does take the best elements from both other MMO's and previous Elder Scroll games and blends them seamlessly. The quests are engaging, exploration is interesting, and combat is fun. I have no doubt that I'll get my money's worth out of this game long before I stop playing.

I'll address a few of the complaints from this thread...

I have gotten the infinite loading screen a couple of times, but only when entering dungeons, and I was always able to close the game and restart it quickly and move on.

Inventory management has not been a huge problem. Yes my bags fill up regularly, but this gives me incentive to save up gold for inventory expansions. Crafting components can be conveniently used from the bank, so as long as I dump all my materials in the bank often I don't struggle with inventory too much.

I haven't tried any pets yet, but I am playing a sorcerer, and my spells feel plenty powerful. I've got a lot of utility with multiple knockbacks and interrupts, and my nukes steal agro from tanks regularly. I love the fact that I can block with my staff, allowing me to actively respond when I get agro, where in other MMO's my mage stealing agro would just mean a quick death.

Does anyone still play Elder Scrolls Online? It's on sale and I've heard it got better since launch. Seems they also just added level-scaling to content so people can play anywhere with anyone. What are your thoughts on the current state of the game?

Most persist for a long time on the downward spiral. Hell, even LOTRO is still going technically. It's more about quality for me, once a game goes F2P most of the quality content just goes right out the window. Dreaded cash shops, pay-to-win syndrome, and etc. slowly drain the life from even the most well-designed and lively games.

It's not F2P, though. Buy to play, more like.

I play and I got to say that I quite enjoy it. Though you got to buy the game, subscription is now an optional thing. I myself don't pay the subscription, but what it gives you is access to all DLC content (though you lose access if you chose to stop paying. Alternatively, you can just buy the DLC and not have to worry about that), and an infinite crafting bag to store all the crafting stuff (because it piles up).

As for improving since launch, yes. Most certainly. It probably has one of the best combat systems in MMOs, levelled content has been mostly thrown away (IIRC, the only level-gated stuff that remains is veteran dungeons (lv50), Cyrodiil (lv10), and undaunted pledges (lv45). Coldharbour is kind of a special thing since you need to either do a bunch of prerequisite quests or teleport to a player already there.), instead you get scaled to the area. While a max-level player will obviously still be stronger than a level 1, now you get to choose where you go like in the main series instead of having to go down the same path as everyone else.

There is a cash shop, but while there are stuff that should be gameplay bonuses for sale, they are a bit... redundant. Sure, you can buy your way into becoming a werewolf. Or you can just go to a capital and ask around and someone will eventually turn you for free. With the whole level scaling gone, experience boosters also feel hollow. The only things you can't get without forking over more cash is either DLC (which is actually pretty high quality and fun), or cosmetics.
