Strange things have been happening around you of late, things that modern science cannot explain. You may be beginning to believe that these events are your fault; You are right, you are entirely to blame, don't let it trouble you.

Usually people such as yourself are hunted down, exploited, and/or destroyed by those with a better understanding of such issues. Luckily for you, this email offers you an opportunity for protection, training, and gainful employment in the supernatural arts. Kestrel writes you in representation of one Mr. Nicholas Claus, owner of one of the most famed and powerful supernatural institutions in this or any other era of world history. You will be trained to replace one of Mr. Claus' elite special operations teams. Salary is 1700 USD a week, plus a generous commission and/or other rewards for each mission completed. Housing and meals will be provided.

What is This?

Magia Exquisitis is a hybrid TTRPG and Forum Game created by b12 forumites. It is still in very early development, and is very fun to play. The general setting can be described as having elements of high fantasy and science fiction hiding in plain sight from modern earth. The game itself has a habit of hating most players, and I can be a somewhat harsh GM, so expect fatalities.

This campaign will be run by both myself and Taricus. We will both play over the forums and try to meet online via maptools at least once a week. The meeting time is still up in the air, but Monday Night, Tuesday Night, and Thursday Night, are out of the question right now. We will likely start in 2-3 weeks.

For anybody who is not a veteran of my games, be warned that mature and twisted content are almost inevitable, so don't apply if you are easily offended.

How do I Join:

Fill out the sheet below. I have reserved a spot for Lillipad if he wants one. He was a big help to me in developing Magia and running the last game, and I kinda inadvertently screwed him out of being able to join. So he is in if he wants to be in.

I will pick 4-5 characters from the other sheets as I see fit. A well written background and a schedule that matches up with other potential players will will help your cause greatly.

Character's Name: Roger Smith
Character's Basic Appearance: Roger has black hair in a ponytail, a short, scruffy beard and horn rimmed glasses. On his head is a pirate hat which, miraculously enough, mangages to look right at home on his head.
Character's Class: Manipulator.
Character's Background:
Roger is youngest child of a family of crab fishermen in Maine. Although the Smith family was never cruel about it, he never truly fitted in with the rest of his kin. No matter what he did, Roger was always something of a disappointment to his family with his poor eyesight, constant sea sickness and scrawny frame. Really, it was best for everyone involved when he decided to move to Boston. Or at least it would have been if not for that fateful last voyage on the family crab trawler. During a freak storm, Roger was washed overboard into the sea. His brothers through out the life line, but it was too late: Roger had been swept away. Hours later, he washed up inside an old sea cave, half-drowned and coughing up salty water. Alone in the cave with him was a skeleton, and sitting atop that skeleton's skull was the a tricorn hat, the sort of hat a pirate might wear.

Roger nearly fainted when the skeleton spoke. In a booming voice it declared, "Roger Smith! Seventh Son of a Seventh Son! You have found me here in Davy Jones' Locker, and so I offer you this rare second chance at life! Claim me hat and me cutlass and you shall be returned to life!" In a panic, Roger did exactly that, putting the hat upon his head and the sword through his belt. Ever since, Roger Smith has been a Manipulator, his familiar an ancient pirate ghost trapped inside a talking hat.

Character's Basic Appearance: A built man with red hair and blue eyes, his hair is typically shaven down to a crew cut, sporting a goatee. He typically wears sweatpants and a loose-fitting shirt tucked in.
Character's Class: Material Mage

Character's Background:
Robert was born and raised in the city of Chicago, with his parents, Steel Powell and Melissa Roken, and an older brother of four years, Takis, having an uneasy time together. The mother had been in a car accident since Rob was five, being stuck in a coma for the duration of the time with requests for the end of life due to both financial and moral constraints being unheard of. Steel struggled to support the family as a supervisor for a metal plant, so during work, he turned over the care of his two children to his parents, who conveniently lived a block from their apartment. Rob was picked on a lot due to both his parents being missing to almost all family events, and learned quickly to fight back, something that would persist throughout his years, and earn him an eventual expulsion at sixteen.

While his brother took to the study of earth sciences, and graduated from high school and later the University of Chicago, Rob was always fascinated with the scraps his father would bring home to work. While Takis was in high school and participating in the various clubs, Rob would sneak in with the guise of meeting his brother there and join the metals club, a club formed for future steel manufacturers and the like. He participated in club activities, but he took a keen interest into metalworking, which he continued when he entered high school himself. When kicked out of school for bringing a weapon to school after many suspensions due to fights, one that he actually made himself in club the day before, he started applying for jobs as a metalworker, and was given a job due to his vast portfolio in the field.

His new boss, Barry, was a nice old man, but his shop tended to be robbed, so Rob had to fight most of the would-be robbers off. Nothing peculiar happened, however, until his fifth year in the job, when metals started to melt quickly and cool just as quickly, He initially wrote it off as something in the air, but soon he was doing jobs that required a week in a day and jobs that required a full work day in an hour. He because slightly nervous about that, but Barry was happy, so he did not really mind. That is, until the email appeared in his inbox. He was the kind of only check his email once a week, so when he read it, he only had a few days to close up everything. Barry was a bit worried for Rob now, but he understood, and quickly dismissed him. He also paid his savings from buying a new home to his apartment lender, so he'd always have somewhere to go back to.

Great. I was wondeirng what the heck was wrong with the latest batches of work. Few questions though. Will there be any working space for me to use? I can't seem to stay away from my work afterall, it's my hobby. Second of all, do I need to bring anything with me? Like a weapon or something? Character's Basic Appearance: Rather small and thin, few early streaks of gray in short, unkempt hazel hair. 30-ish. Rarely looks up. Usually in an Anglo Belgian Corporation shirt, which he has dozens of, and khaki, oil-stained cargo pants.
Character's Class: Conjurer

Character's Background:
There were millions of children like him. Middle-class parents, sheltered life, smart enough to get loaded with compliments, naive enough to let it go to their head. Growing up with the toys that will make them even smarter - chemistry sets, puzzles, enough bright plastic construction materials to last them another childhood. And every single one of these kids is convinced they will be the next Einstein. They will build spaceships. Explore the unknown. Invent medicines or build utopias. Sadly, only one in a billion ever comes close to that goal. And that one lucky young man was not Jacob Fletcher.

Fletcher got stuck at the first bump, so to speak. A deadly combination of laziness and overconfidence that affects all too many students quickly spelled the end of his college career, and he had a first major fallout with his just as disillusioned parents. Many squabbles would follow, too many to forget or get over, too many to act like it was nothing. Jacob moved out the minute he found his first job, selling second-rate electronics at a second-rate electronics store.

He wasn't fit for a salesman though, and for all of his bad sides, he was still smart enough to try and get something better. Something better came along in the form of an opening for a technician at a nearby hardware factory. He passed the intellectual test with relative ease, and the interview barely, and since that day, Jacob has been "that silent tech guy". The years that followed were much like himself: gray, unassuming, bland. His personal life consisted of not much more than rewatching Bill Nye episodes, reading, and solving newspaper puzzles.

It took a time for Jacob to accept that reality, but like all things, it became natural after a while. He managed to climb a few career steps, though nothing major, learned to enjoy the company of a select few others if they didn't stay for too long, he even tried speeddating once. But those precious few fragile constructs collapsed as soon as he discovered his gift.

It was nothing more than a footnote in one of the many semi-scientific library books, but it caught his attention. It invited him to look for it elsewhere, to find out what he could. Even with no significant other and no friends to speak of, it still took him a few months to find some more information. Again, not much. Another two sentences. Just one more piece of the puzzle. But it gave him hope, and he redoubled his efforts.

It took him a few years to piece it all together, but in the end he had it: a formula, a way to open a passage between worlds. Not a large one. Not for long. Just enough to get something trough.

I would like to thank you for your offer. I do have some questions though.
First of all, suppose anything strange did happen, how would you know? Have you been following me? Tapping my phone? Not that I talked about it mind you.
Second, are you aware that $1700 a week is rather above my paygrade? I wouldn't want to disappoint you by performing, well, less than my pay would imply. Maybe you have the wrong person?
Third, what's the job description? I can not find it on any of the regular job sites.
And finally, are you aware that your mail makes it look like you talk about yourself in third person?

Picture for reference (obviously with the differences being that she only has two eyes (Unless you want to just start her off with them as a Feature or something if I pick that) and isn't in a maid outfit... usually. Has one though, somewhere. Also, no hugeass mouth and she has legs. So basically this, but presumably HUMAN.):

Character's Background: Born from a Japanese mother and a Spanish father, Yuri has spent most of her life travelling the world along with her parents, but has never really felt like she fit in, as both sides of her lineage find something odd about her from the other half of the couple, and places out in the world find her odd because of either one or both of her sets of features, as well as her... admittedly rather odd eyes, which not even her parents are sure of the origin of, or if they are they haven't said anything about it.

Because of the stigma she's usually had to live with, she's become rather reserved and reticent about most things, generally spending time doing research on a situation and finding a solution to possible problems well beforehand.

First off, I shall simply state the obvious, and ask if you seriously expect me to believe that not only are these strange occurrences my fault, when all I have seen in my life has told me that they should have been impossible, but also that there is a weekly pay rate approximately double that of a standard job, and that I shall be working under, if I read what you have said correctly, Santa Claus.

I apologize if my reticence to accept your offer at face value is insulting, but the prospect of Santa Claus running some sort of... supernatural mercenary group... is both mildly disturbing and somewhat at odds with the general image of a jolly fat man who I would very much assume to not be in the least capable of actually preforming such a function.

On the other hand, these strange situations have been occurring, and so I must take care with dismissing you offhand. So I shall give you a chance, and ask you to assuage my reticence toward your offer. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yeah. It is. If you join, I will have enough people to run a game. Right now it looks like the only time-slot that works for everybody is Saturday Afternoon PST. Could be a bit troublesome, as my family will be home and awake during that time, which will inevitably lead to all sorts of interruptions during play time.

Also KujiUn is often at my house during that time, and I'm not good at keeping my big mouth shut in person, so everybody would have to be okay with the fact that he may from time to time pick up on some OOC information while playing.

Not exactly sure how I'd feel about playing. The more I look through the system, the clunkier it feels, and the more I want to change about it. And Kuji's already a material mage, and I'd feel bad competing with him for it or forcing you to use duplicates, but the other open classes don't really appeal to me right now.

Character's Name: Nathan Twain
Character's Basic Appearance: Nathan is average in height, but his body is well muscled and sturdy. There are deep scars etched across his entire body save for the head. His hair was originally short, brown, and well kept, but has grown out long and disheveled, becoming darker by the day until eventually becoming black after his return home.
Character's Class: Material Mage

Character's Background:
Nathan was a member of a small organization for the peaceful assimilation of humans into non-mundane society. Not a natural born mage himself, he worked as an ambassador of this organization, handling meetings with foreign magical creatures, and working directly with the overseers of the organization dispatched by the council of ancients. As a sign of trust between mundane and mystical, he allowed a Spirit of Protection into his body to act as his guardian and chain to the non-mundane.
On a trip to a different plane to establish an embassy for the human race, Nathan became the target of a group of extremists seeking purity through the genocide of humanity. The assassins of the group paralyzed he and the Spirit, offering him no way of protecting himself, and eventually ending by tearing his body apart. The spirit, out of desperation to prevent Nathan's permanent death, melded itself into his dying husk, repairing the broken body, but at a heavy cost. Nathan's dying emotions of fear, betrayal, and anger warped the two individual beings into a single entity of Wrath upon their merge, destroying both egos and awakening a new one, devoid of most memories, and an unnatural bloodthirst on the brink of insanity at its worst.
Nathan was eventually returned to his home plane for therapy, no longer classified as a human or a safe element, he was not allowed back into mundane society or the organization he was once happily a part of. In the home provided to him by the council, he isolated himself, going out solely for necessities, and speaking only with therapists and agents asking about the events leading to his change. Seeking to live a simple life, he didn't want to become a menace to be taken care of, and sought to keep his bloodthirst in check, taking up meditation to clear his mind, and allowing himself only the slightest releases through the practice of unarmed fighting.
