Playing as Humans in Fortress mode - no nobles
« on: November 17, 2013, 07:45:28 am »

I tried to play as humans in fortress mode. I created new world, changed civ_controllable to humans, embarked and there is no nobles. So, it is impossible to create military.
I copypasted ranks from dwarfs to humans - no effect.
Is there any way to normally as humans, elves, goblins?

Personally, I have no clue. If the other bright and sometimes disturbing minds that frequent this part of the forum can't help you either, you might want to try it again in the 'modding' section.

Did you gen a new world after adding the nobles? You can't change the nobles in an already genned world.

To mod the entity and make it have any effect you have to change it in the dwarf fortress/raw/objects folder. Nobles can't be added if you already made a world, so you have to alter the files used to make new worlds.

to add: most files in your 'save' folder are copies of the general files. - make sure you make backups of the original if you change things like that.

Which is right
1 to add nable ranks along with existibg ones in dafault entity
2 totally replace old ones with ranks from dwarfs

To give humans nobles you need to remove [VARIABLE_POSITIONS:ALL] from their entity raws. Then you can just copy paste the dwarf nobles and land holder progress triggers, which are the numbers above the king. That should give them the same nobles as the dwarves.

Any rumors about making more races fully playable?

Any rumors about making more races fully playable?
-- edit.  Because I just come across as mean sometimes.

In the development notes, which you can get to from the front page,  Toady mentions being able to play other kinds of sites (cities, forest retreats, pits, etc) as one of the game features he wants implemented. You can play other races right now, although in fortress mode most of your citizens will be dwarves. Adventurer gets the full scope.

Dwarf Fortress being a one-man project isn't really prone to 'rumours'. Besides, Toady chatting about what's upcoming, and making this site dedicated to detailing what DF intends to be some day, you can just ask him a question and he'll tell you what the current plans (if any) are.  Although a lot of the time stuff far in the future hasn't been worked out in much detail.

Mythgen on full fantasy mode when that comes out will (possibly) let you play as a completely random yet somehow dwarf-like species so you can enjoy fortress mode too. Underground dwelling, fortress building gerbil-like creatures with exposed brains and multiple tentacles enveloped in darkness for example...

Though also in the devgoals he says that those features would probably be post-main release features because doing them right would take a lot of work and not be part of the main objective of the game, which is Dwarf Fortresses.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.

Here you go! I changed a couple noble names for flavor, but this is what I use to run Blazecooks.

Paste over your human entity raws.

Edited because I posted the wrong thing, like a proper fool.
