Chapter 2: Blood on the SkiesBecome general of Republics army, plot.
You are
BlekBlek, a Half-Half-fiendish Mammoth Goblin. You are an Underclerk in the Administrative Wing. You were promoted from Junior Clerk because some other guy got a promotion. As you sort through his old paperwork, you find a ledger full of something inside a cavity cut into a large technical manual.
Get the hell out the trench, hissing at the soldiers to do so as well. Paw at gas masks/respirators until they get the message. Once out of the trench - the side that leads towards our camp - run in a weaving pattern toward said camp as fast as possible.
You plow through the mud, screeching and yowling. The men around you start casting nervous looks at each other. You claw at the emergency respirator crates, stacked neatly, until one comes over, then get the hell out of the trench. Gas is lethal to small animals like you long before it is to humans, after all. Screams begin to rise from the forward listening posts and men fumble for their respirator boxes as a yellow glow appears through the fog.
oh, good, I can afford to run out of flashlights. maybe.
search for objects that look like they might match up with the word fragment(s), using the flashlight this time. Be ready to dust off interesting areas with brush. no, no, interesting is a synonym for distracting. Be ready to dust off relevant looking locations.
You spend a while searching the room diligently, brushing dust off areas that look promising. No luck yet, though. Your flashlight is about three-quarters charged.
prepare defenses for the inevitable push, also if its a commando team trying to break through. go and try to get new weapons from the wreck.
You beef up the town's fortifications, digging miles of sandbagged positions, and setting up field artillery. You approach the Chief Wreck Engineer on duty about some of the MegaDeath weapons kept in a safe inside a vault surrounded by thirty feet of concrete surrounded by guards for three floors above and below 24/7. He refuses.
Thank the corporal, get appropriately attired (completely obscured by armor and helmets and masks), and then proceed with plan, find the cat, and assassinate it.
You gear up, wearing indistinct trench coats and gas masks. You crawl across the field in the wake of the gas, closer to the edge of the cloud than the less bold soldiers behind you. Screams come from ahead. The wind is faint, and the mustard gas is not moving fast. Pickets of machine gun fire are beginning to open up as gunner crews get to their masks.
Revive as archaeologist who just discovered the Lost Goliath of the Mines.
You are
Berl Hegemord, an archaeologist working in the Deep Cavern Zone. These caverns were created centuries ago, when the Old Shafts and the furnace works collapsed into natural caverns. Expeditions have reached as far as twelve kiolmetres below the surface of the earth, with no end to the caverns, or a bottom to the deepest pits. You are searching for a major reading your team recently got on the long-range metal pulse detectors. Expensive and unweildy, bought for a king's ransom from the Reaches government, the detectors could find a nail through a mile of rock. And there is something BIG down here. You want to know what it is
Store the loot in my servant's packs, but keep the book with me, don't want the wrong person to get their hands on it.
Head to the next checkpoint.
You do so. This building is more intact. Charred bodies are being pulled from the rubble.
Bark at my men and tell them to get to work assassinating that general or something.
You order your men to move up. They switch to their Reaches trench-coats, and file out of the back trenches as the bombardment comes to and end. You head with them until you reach a hill overlooking the Lines. From here you can actually see the Wreck, towering above the landscape. Nestled in it's colossal shadow is a fortified town. Some sort of building works going on.
Designate sentries to take shifts, train troops for Trench warfare. Ensure we have gas masks.
You order Jim to stand first watch, and the rest of you get down to practicing hitting the dirt. Well, hitting the mud. You prised a crate of masks out of the mud, too.
Various Fings
You are given one last chance. You are sent out as the captain of a submarine in a wolfpack, sinking cargo shipping of the North Reaches. You report to the Captain of the VHS
Lunatic. Three days in, a convoy of three destroyers, a light cruiser, and eight or nine cargo ships is sighted. Reachers.
