Not Wizard leaps down, kneels, laying his staff across his back and holding one end with both hands - so that Cheese can run up and spring off of the free end while Not Wizard hauls down on the far end, catapulting Cheese up for more hang time.

Jee wilikers, I think Highmax is near invulnerable, must have been dunked in the river styx like achilles was.
Just make sure he wears a boot.

Also, sorry, it was late when I did the update, and I hadn't started out the equipment yet.
The whiskey is about on par with the staff; two couple bottles of it, with 3 servings each. The bottles are also ID tagged for discounted refilling. Each helping of booze increases ♠Aggressive draw, but decreases ♣Defensive and ♥Diplomatic draw. It lasts for around an hour, but the time increases exponentially with the servings consumed at once.
The staff negates the penalty for ♠ cards with ♦ draws by turning them into +.5C instead of -.5S. I'd say the whiskey is probably the better choice for a combat oriented character.
I'm also interpreting "Leap into the store" as "track down Fractalman and the merchants he found".

3 Diplomacy 4♥ Q♠ Joker (2♥ J♣) (-1.5S 3C) vs 5 diplomacy 3♣ 8♠ J♥ Q♥ K♥ (4.5S 4C) (Dodger advantage, Dodger crit)

Someone brushes past on his way out, and the security alarm goes off as Mastahcheese enters the tech store. His magic robe does nothing to help convince the store owner that he didn't just try to rob the guy, and look, a whole shelf of phones is empty! uh-oh. The owner gets furious, and starts throwing phones to disuade the "thieving mage" from staying. On they way out, though, 3 of the thrown phones manage to find their way into a pocket, and the alarm goes off again. Better get out of here quick!

(No draw)

Elephant Parade finds Fractalman without issue to tell him about the contract he just got. He spots the hat that Fractalman is looking at, and inquires as to it's price. One happy merchant later, his head is addorned with a very floppy pointed ortament. Fractalman, meanwhile, gets the bracelet and the wand. The merchant with the golem is a bit sad, but hails another customer.

The market is getting buisier, with more people filing in. Soon it will get crowded, and it looks like law enforcement officers are starting to station themselves around the market too. The criers with news of sales and dealers work themselves into a feverpitch, revealing that the busy hour has arrived.

Depends. A fireball would benefit from it, as it is a ♦ boosted with draw. Aggressive magic, AKA combat magic, does get stronger from whiskey as you get more dangerous. Also, added the turn above you.

How does those card things work anyway? ???
1) All "rolls" are opposed draws. An actor and a dodger. Often the environment would be the dodger.
2) Draw a number of cards equal to the relevant stat; if the stat would be boosted by another, add half the other stat rounded up.
3) If there are any cards that require a redraw, Aces, 7s, and Jokers, add the appropriate number of cards to the draw; this step only happens once, so if you draw another redraw card don't repeat.
4) Count cards with the relevant suits, add bonuses and penalties; this is the base success rate (3S, 2S, whatever).
5) Add and subtract successes based on the card number: low numbers usually subtract, high usually add, Jacks subtract and Aces add.
6) Count the critical cards. Jacks are double critical, Aces and other face cards are critical.
7) Whomever has the higher success rate wins the hand and gets the advantage. From the perspective of the actor, winning is success while losing is a failure. Overshoot/Abysmal failure happens when the advantage is 6 or more.
8) If you have more criticals than the other has successes, you crit the action (negates overshoot and abysmal failure).

I'm still trying to figure out the balance on exactly how much penalty or bonus each card or suit bonus should give.
