  • Reduced the % chance of certain diseases considerably...
    • Dwarf's can now use their disease_resistance against catching the disease (i.e. via spreading), also the spreading is nerfed by reducing it's chance from 100% spreading to nearby dwarf's to a reduced % (60% for influenza, 25% for [visible] plagues).
Also, resistance is used against specific applications of the diseases (i.e. sub syndromes of a disease, ex... necrosis of the liver is resistable).
  • If a dwarf suffered from an epidemic (i.e. influenza, meningitis, or pnuemonia) they are immune from catching the disease for up to one year, does away with the need for mutations.
  • Medicine now acts as a vaccine for epidemic's for one year.
  • Plague Immunity: Now dwarf's have a resistance chance * 2% of being immune to all plagues/rabies
  • Medicine now has slightly extended durations against non communicable diseases, (i.e. blood pressure)  (needed only 3 times a year vs 5.22 times a year for full coverage).

ToDo
  • What I would like to do is do a dfhack r4 syndromeTrigger based on a dwarf's disease_recuperation to instantly apply an immune syndrome to recover from the disease (i.e. early healing vs static healing times).

Note
  • Medicine doesn't prevent diseases (still).

I'm working on merging into MWDF-SWP v5 (which I have, regardless of what the download count says), or v6 now that it exists. However I'm teaching a course all day, so it may take a little while.

Many thanks for this!

this is awesome.  It took me a while before I got some influenza dwarf's (about my 5th migration wave).  And sure enough, slowly but surely, they begin to make the other dwarfs sick, but it's not as quick as before.  Due to the lower probability, it takes longer for the entire fort to get sick, but it does so at a randomized slower progression (tends to move in a wave like pattern, where say about 25% of your fort is sick at any given time, until they all get over the flu for a year).  It's great!

The unified branch of studded with patches now has your v6 disease nerfs applied to all tile-sets. Enjoy! :)

the 2% immunity to plagues i think should be upped to 10%. historically smallpox wiped out 90% of the natives of the americas.

according to this site http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/03/050325234239.htm

even bubonic and black death were about 10% resistant.  btw. 10% probably would equal 5% as half the dwarves would fail their resistance checks (id have to test that one. im not sure how the resitable token works)

What's up with 'blind'?  Second 4e fort in a row with two "blind" dwarfs in the first few dozen, no apparent diseases (unless I missed them ...) - does the RNG just hate me?

had the same, happened in 4d already as well...
But they all got healed after some time... (long time for some)

v7 changed this part of probabilities....

under [INTERACTION:PLAGUE_PROB_IMMUNE] I changed 2% to 25%

Code: [Select]
   ##If resisted, 25% chance immunity to all plagues (~40% of dwarf's passed resistance check with an ~average of 1000 disease_resistance, ending in a final 10% avg result, i.e. 40% x 25% = 10%)
   [CE_CAN_DO_INTERACTION:PROB:25:START:0:END:3000]

https://www.mediafire.com/?60s7ue04zqzwaoq

edit: updated %'s (I thought I had 30% from 30/80 dwarfs, realized it was closer to 40%)

I did two tests.

suggestion for mwmodding a better healthcare system.

a research in the scriptorium that allows for vaccines.

first thing would be to allow for just the standard (i.e. 72000) timed medicine for epidemics (vs my modded 1 year vaccine approach) and call it something like "vitamin fortification", then create a scriptorium re-searchable epidemic vaccine that gives 1 year (432000) immunity against epidemics (ie flu).

Then another researchable one that is maybe level 2 research, that gives a 1 year immunity to plagues, or maybe just immunity to plagues.

maybe even a pharmacy building that produces boulders that evaporate for dwarfs w non communicable diseases like high blood pressure or schizo.  (I don't like the idea of micromanaging various medicine types for various diseases via drinks and stockpiles, as there is no real way to control what a dwarf drinks without assigning them to burrows with stockpiles and excluding others, which is a HUGE pain if you are trying to assign/unassign after they have their medicine, BUT, using workshop profiles.  It would be a bit easier to only allow certain dwarfs to use the pharmacy, of course... you would have to do so on a frequent basis, so this may not be the best option for non communicable diseases either).

@gamerlord
'blushed with bloodshot eyes' is high blood pressure, although meningitis has bloodshot eyes as well.

@urmane
blind is one of the diseases,i was under the impression it was permanent though

Note:
I've been pondering modding a slight tweak into dwarf's ability to be immune to plagues.

As it is right now, a dwarf has to pass a (disease) resistance check, and then he has a 25% chance of being immune.

Rather than a random 25%, I thought about having a dwarf have to pass 2 resistance checks, and then have a 90% chance of being immune.

However, I want to see if I can fix the showunitsyndromes r4 issue first.  Hopefully I can fix these two issues before vacation next week.

Hey, where'd my schizo go?

One of my little dudes went schizo, scaring off the rest of the munchkins.  I've trapped him in a cage ... but now I cannot find him.  If I look directly at the cage trap it shows him in there, but I cannot seem to do anything with him, or find him in other menus (units, animals, therapist ...).

Do I just leave him there until he snaps out of it, possibly after getting hauled to some stockpile?

You'll either have to build the cage and link it to a lever to get him out. Or use the "zone" stuff in dfhack to dump him in a pit or pasture.

If you go for a pasture, make sure you remove them from it after if you don't want them to then starve or die of thirst. Assuming you aren't going to just kill them anyway.

Two embarks and both die from the plague in year 3.  The second embark I turned disease and secret fun off before I created the world, but still came down with the plaque.  This is with a clean install of 4e.  Guess I need to learn how to segregate migrants, although it seems to spread at a huge range so I wonder how to make it work.  I bought about a hundred plants from the elves who showed up just in time to catch the plaque (the leader seemed to catch the plaque before even entering my fort).  Turned all the plants into medicine, and 3 months later the medicine is all gone and everyone still is a bubonic plaguebearer.  Its hard to even see my hospital due to the constant miasma, so I don't really even know what they did with the medicine.
