Succession Fort Idea: May the better civ win.
« on: November 16, 2013, 10:36:00 am »

Just putting it out there, maybe someone wants to take it on. I noticed that there is not a single active MasterworkDF Succession fort atm... so here an idea:

You gen a world with all three races active and playable.
You copy it twice, resulting in 3 copies of the same world.
You find a location, embark as dwarves, upload the save.
You find the same location, embark as kobolds, upload the save.
You find the same location, embark as orcs, upload the save.

You now have the same map, same wildlife, same mod-settings, and 3 different teams. May the better race win. Three succession forts at once, 6-12 months of ingame time per player, no save scumming (except if there is a problem or a total loss), and you can see how differently the race develope and how the forts go.

What do you guys think? I wont be here to manage this, but I thought its a neat idea.

Sounds interesting. Would the different civs all run on the same thread, so following the whole thing is easier, or would they all have their own threads so they are less cluttered? This would also be a great idea for the next update, as then you could build one fort and retire it, build the next and retire, build the last and retire, then watch hilarity ensue as the 3 civs fight each other.

If others are up for it, I'll join. First question on the block: what world do we use, as random gen doesn't like masterwork? Do we want them all to use the same site, or do we want to tailor the site to the race?

One thread or three, thats up to you guy. I wont be here to do it. I would suggest one thread in the succession forum.

Same site, same embark, maybe Garden of Gaia. It should be fair, equal measures for all three races.

@Durgess:

A little tangential but what do you mean "as random gen doesn't like masterwork?"  I've only ever made random worlds with the advanced settings.  Am I missing out on something by not using Meph's special world seeds?

Whenever I use vanilla world gen on masterwork I find the civilizations to barely support the mod. I might get a few new items and pets, but no underground crops for example. When I run pre-gened worlds, I can embark with at least most of the supplies available. But that was in the last version, and is just my experience.

This is kind of similar to what me and some friends started doing when one of us would create a fortress, save right at the embark, then zip the files and mail them to everybody else. It wasn't even the fact everybody has their own way of building so much as all the random stuff that happened in one of our games but not the others.

We aren't getting many hits here, so I'm going to post a thread on the succession forum to see if there is more interest over there.
