You forgot the Kappa.

Broke 30k, finally. Maybe I'm done with this curse that keeps sending me back to the bailout in the mid-20ks.

I think it's a rather large milestone, actually.  It took me at least a week to hit my first 1k.  Then I lost it all.  Then the next morning I got myself up to 4k in about an hour.  In other words,  that's about the point at which I started really learning how to bet semi-intelligently.

The first rule, of course, is that betting like a coward is pointless. There are a strict few types of matches for me: No bet, all-in sure thing, all-in upset, and 20% upset.

Basically if I know that an upset is coming or a character is guaranteed to win, I'll all-in. If I think there's a decent chance of an upset, but it isn't certain, I'll bet around 20%. Otherwise I just don't bet.

Also, the places to watch for upsets are A-B tier. S tier and P tier are too unpredictable to reliably guess upsets; they can still happen, but they're more difficult to gauge, especially in P-tier.

I will note that you will never see as much pure rage in chat as during a P-tier upset.

I'm not quite familiar with exact tiering, but I have a few "flag" characters that I can use identify the overall fighting ability of the combatants. If I see Yuki I'll know the match is gonna be shit.

I generally bet a around my bailout amount on matches I'm not sure of. I only go all in or half on characters I know can kick ass. What netted me my first 1k was an all in on Pelacanus. I was honestly surprised that was an upset.

In general I keep my bets conservative, though now that I have 1500~ Salt I'm a little more generous. I typically just bet on who I thinks going to win. I kinda have a very small list of charas that are probably a sure thing ("smooth" sprite DBZ characters, Bruno Brucerreti, Giorno GER, Remelia, Gonzales, Flonne, Prinny-Z, most pockets, Flaming Cirno(Just named Cirno, but I'm pretty sure Cirnos an Ice fairy. I'm not terribly familiar with 2hu)

I'm pretty shitty on guessing when there's gonna be an upset though.

Get back on Saltybet after a couple weeks of not watching anything. First fight is Captain Falcon vs Chrysalis, made it just in time for betting to be over.

Captain Falcon brawling it out with a xenomorph in a photorealistic front yard with what sounds like smooth jazz vocaloid playing in the background. No words describe it, except awesome.

Spoiler, Falcon won with a 3 v 2 and the final round was a perfect flawless wombo combo. I shed a tear of manliness.

I've gotten some good upset bets on Chrysalis; it's a contender for what it is (a gimmick character with a single really good move and decent AI).

Pro tip for all new people: Always bet at least 1 dollar on every match. It increases your ranking which means a bigger bailout if you fuck up when you all in.

That's one thing, yeah. At the top rank your free-pleb bailout is $100, IIRC.

Holy Flandre vs Kung Fu Man Neo.
Real maximum glass cannons. It was beautiful. Made a very large sum of money on Flandre.

Edit: And Giant Ultraman versus boss Patchouli. Silly people don't know that boss patchy is useless against guys that have their hitbox above the stage.

How has Saltybet sunk so low?
Anyway, this is still a thing and is still awesome.  The site is down at the moment, so there is nary a salted bet in sight at the moment.  Also there are regular tournaments now or so I gather from the chat.

I just came back this after a while and one of the first matches I see is Dark Donald vs Muon. I thought Alter Amiba was bad, but he's nothing compared to that. I couldn't breath from laughter near the end of the match.
