Monitor Recommendations for Cyber Monday
« on: November 15, 2013, 11:58:46 am »

My big monitor died, so I'm in the market for a new one. I considered browsing pawn shops and stuff, but with Cyber Monday right around the corner, I figured this would be as good a time as any to buy a new monitor. (Something I haven't done in about a decade.....)

I'm looking for a 27" +, good response rate. USB jacks, speakers, don't really care about any of that. I'm just wanting something that is more than simply a "big monitor" and will improve my gaming experience. If know of a good brand, link and I'll check up on Newegg ect... come Cyber Monday.

Thanks!

I get my monitors off on Amazon cause they usually have the same deals as newegg just less of a hassle for returns. ASUS brand monitors have done well for me on the quality and warranty work. Alternatives are BenQs and Dells.

Been running an Acer for several years and it's treated me well.

Not sure what kind of price range you're looking for, but I got a dell ultrasharp u2412m and I'm extremely pleased with it. I did quite a bit of research when I was looking to replace a broken monitor last year and settled on that model as the (relatively) cheapest option to get a monitor using IPS panel technology. All the Ultrasharp monitors appear to be a pretty solid choice at first glance, but if you pick one out I'd definitely recommend looking into reviews just to make sure there are no better alternatives.

If price is scary, drop the resolution down to 1080p and thats a good 300 bucks.

That sounds a little closer to what I want. I really don't need bleeding edge visuals, just something slightly nicer than your off-the-shelf monitor from Best Buy.

Which genius decided to list a monitor without stating the resolution?

It's 1920*1080, I just googled the monitor name so I'd have an English site to link.
Indeed kinda odd though.

What about a big 1080p tv?

Ive been using a 40 inch LG flat tv for the last couple of years and its great.

Handy due to digital tv built in and can plug games consoles and such into it too.

It's been a few years, but the last time I hooked up my comp to a TV, I got mixed results. Some games looked great. Some games (MMOs) with a lot of text were unplayable unless you were parked directly in front of the screen. Maybe things are a bit better now, but I'm still a little leery of relying on a TV as my monitor.
