I searched and didn't see a thread for Redshirt. It was released earlier this week by Positech, the people who made Democracy (didn't really like) and Kudos (enjoyed).

Anyway, has anyone here played it? What do you think?

Saw a review of this a while ago, I didn't realize it was out. Looks neat.

Grimith did an entertaining LP of this game during its Alpha release.

Overall the gameplay seemed a bit shallow, but he was suffering a few bugs that were affecting certain features, so take what you see there with a grain of salt.

At £16 ($30), it's a bit pricey for what it ultimately is: a facebook simulator. Perhaps if it gets fleshed out with some free updates in the future, it'll be more deserving of that pricetag.

I do feel like the feature set is thin for the price tag, but Positech is one of those indie companies I like and, therefore, am willing to pay a premium to support, so I bought Redshit when it was in beta and have been playing it.

I bought it.

I'm a fan of Positech, but I am not a fan of this game.  The gameplay is very shallow and there are not really very meaningful choices to make over the course of the game.  Even the random 'Away Team' missions are nothing more than you watching the screen while between 1-3 of the of the people of your team die (the net result is simply losing 'Spacebook' friends/acquaintances and happiness).

I'd probably have more of a positive review if this was a $5 android/iOS game, but not a $20 PC game.  I'd say the people who frequent this particular forum are not the target audience for this game at all.  It might make a nice kid's game, but that's about it.

Wow. They're getting people to pay real money to play fake facebook. Words fail me.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

With a name like Redshirt, I'd think the game would be something like an squad based strategy game where you send wave after wave of expendable goons to their death, not a Facebook simulator.

Minor correction to the OP, this game is only published by Positech, it was actually developed by The Tiniest Shark.

Honestly... yeah, I thought it would be something like Theme Hospital.

That's sad to hear, it was one of the games on my watchlist.
Won't get it until it gets a 75% discount on steam, then.  ::)

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

Impulse buy for me...

If you are looking for a comparison, it is like Kudos 2.

That doesn't sound good.
Kudos had good potential (if you like that kind of game) but was way too static, repetitive and predictable, unfortunately..
And of course the people. Who the hell ends up a friendship because you refuse the go out with the person EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIFE, even when you have no money or you are sick or you have class?
There's people that I haven't seen for almost a year but the friendship isn't affected at all.

Well, anyways.. will have to wait for discount. meh.

I think if anyone watched any videos of this you should know what to expect. I bought it early expecting a space facebook simulator and got that. It's a charming time killer that I can hop into and enjoy the references as I work my way up to Captain's Assistant.

Yeah, I'm old I guess. I still haven't transferred my buying habits to watching videos first. I would much rather read like-minded people's opinions of a game over watching videos.
