Well, not collide. Just blow each other up because they couldn't stop each others weaponry.

Besides, not all of them died. After all, they kept showing up pretty often.

((On a side note, the gravitational stresses the object get from a suddenly disappearing planet should be enough to inflict some chaos and damage.))

I dunno... I think the whole episode just cheapened the whole concept of the time war. It was supposed to be a mad thing with galaxies burning and time being ripped apart, but why was everything 'normal' with people with guns fighting against daleks with guns, firefight-style on one planet? It just made everything less mysterious. Especially not figuring out that there was a really simple way to stop the time war. If they had static technology for fucking artwork, why hadn't they utilized it on a larger scale and thus figured out they could already do that? Not that we even know 100% that it did. The whole effect of the episode was a "maybe, maybe not" feel-good retcon that the doctor won't remember anyway. But trying to make sense of this show anymore is pretty similar to bashing your head on the keyboard so I will abort now.

It was the last day of the battle. Most of the advanced weaponry of both sides was depleted, or committed elsewhere, I assume. Or about to be deployed in a moment of desperation.

As for why the weaponry wasn't used in battle, it cost the combined power of 13 Tardisses to pull it off, with questionable results. By this point in the battle, the Timelords didn't appear to have any left.

It has been explicitly stated that almost all superweapons have already been deployed, to no avail.

There's still a distinctive lack of eldritch horrors, though.

Also, keep in mind that we only saw Arcadia right when it fell (a small area of it at that), and the interior of some war council room (presumably at the Citadel). That's peanuts for Earth, let alone when you consider Gallifrey is about 2.5 times the size of the Earth.

And, as was stated, this was the last day of the war. I don't imagine a lot of the flashiest stuff happens at the very end.

On another note, I liked the War TARDISes whizzing about and the Zygons' mission being a callback-ish thing to "The Quiet Undead"

Did anyone see the trailer for the Christmas special (the infuriatingly 10-second one)? With things like "Trenzalore" and "Silence must fall" being bandied about, one can only imagine the kind of blow-up-the-set regeneration we're in for .

Oh, and I like Moffat and his wibbly-wobbly stories. It's nice to see the "time" in "time travel" featured more often.

It's really a shame I happened to catch the "Let's Reveal the 12th Doctor" special a few months ago. I can't imagine how mind-blowing it was for those who had no idea for this part of the movie:

I actually used to watch Doctor Who in the Christopher Eccleston days and thought it was quite refreshing. I wasn't such a big fan of David Tennant and eventually stopped watching, and I'm glad I stopped when I did because Mr. Moffat took over shortly after. I'm not a fan of his writing personally, my Dad also knew him in University and deemed him to be a pompous, arrogant cock end of the highest order.

All this said I am tempted to watch a few episodes again when Peter Capaldi steps in. He's one of my favourite actors and I think he'll bring a change in tone. He'd be an older, more mature Doctor I hope. Maybe more of the Eccleston sort, not the foppish scamp that we've had twice in a row. Foppish scamps can be good and Mr. Tennant was a good doctor, I'll give him that, I'm just saying a change would be welcome.

Three things bugged me about the episode.
The first was how the time war was portrayed. It had been built up to be this massive amazing paradox inducing infinite war. From what little we saw of it, it appeared to be just a regular war. I understand that it might not be representative of the war at large, but it was really rather disappointing. Especially since they could have cleared  it up in a few sentences (eg. "I can't believe that we are reduced to fighting a war like stone age peons, in the mud and the dirt").

The second was the retcon from "they all died" to "hey, they were fine after all". I felt it changed the whole tone of the time war. Sometimes there are no good decisions. Sometimes the right thing to do is a terrible terrible thing. Back when the Time Lords tried to escape from the time war (way back when The Master died for the most recent time), The Doctor AND The Master purposefully stopped them, and kept the Time Lords sealed because they had become so terrible in the war. And now The Doctor seems to have forgotten that a little, and saved the Time Lords after all, when it seemed earlier that he had purposefully killed both the Time Lords and the Daeleks, because neither could be allowed to survive.

The third was the lame ass "Hey, they will all shoot each other and all die all at once instantly". Seriously. Its kind of lame when they use that when there are just 2 or 3 people shooting each other at once, but billions and billions of heavily armored and shielded warships?
It especially confuses me, because it seems to say that that besides The Doctor, and The Master, there wasn't a single timelord anywhere besides Gallifrey, and that there weren't any daeleks anywhere doing anything besides orbiting Gallifrey.

I'm going to guess that a giant-ass burning planet just disappearing would probably make some ships collide, as well as some shots fired hitting both sides, but it's still a Moffat-style asspull of grand proportions. It was fucking awesome, though. Just don't look to closely at the logistics. Or try to find much explanation in it. It was rather rushed, really. That was a pretty poor episode.  The threat was nonsensical AND the resolution was really dumb.  Disappointing considering that I thought the last two regenerations were really cool and for good reasons.

Pretty much my thoughts as well. The beginning was set up well, the ending part in the TARDIS was excellent, but the bits inbetween were rather disappointing. Hopefully we get some more writers besides Steven Moffat for the next season, because my faith in him is rapidly dwindling.

Heresy!  I would tune in to watch Capaldi saying the word 'rabbit' for ten minutes straight.  He would make it work.
