ARG! I swear getting them to put artifacts where I want them was easier in previous versions, I'm having an infuriating time trying to get the dwarves to take the artifacts out of the bins into a storage deeper into the fort (and not in the trading stockpile). So, HOW??

Also trying to get some random necromancer books into a separate stockpile, but meh.

Edit: Forbidding from the z stocks screen oughta do it, but yeah, a real hassle :P

Edit2: Or not. I was eventually able to do it before.........

Forbid artifacts from all stockpiles other than the one you want them in (I assume you've done this already).

Then, loo[k] into the bins that hold your artifacts, and [d]ump them into a (i)-[g]arbage zone.  This will both get them out of the bins, and forbid them.

Once they're all dumped, just reclaim them, and dorfs will move them to your new, artifact-only, stockpile.

Hope that helps.

You can't actually designate artifacts to be dumped though....

Maybe just try forbidding bins from your original stockpile, as well as artifacts?  Or, just remove the stockpile altogether, and create a new one in its place that doesn't allow artifacts?

I finally managed to get them out of the bins by having the dwarves store the items in the bins and put them in the stockpile and then later making the dwarves take those two bins that they were in, to the trade depot.

The trade depot trick works fairly well for removing anything from a container - artifacts always get removed, as do general forbidden items. The only catch is that it doesn't work if the bin itself is an artifact.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Are you sure? I was sure that I'd done that before...
