Re: Roll To Medium: Breaking Reality [End Chapter Three]
« Reply #720 on: October 20, 2014, 02:46:14 am »

As the introduction to the Fourth Chapter of the Sixth Book of the Medium, let's take a look at the distant past, shall we? Maybe we can see a bit more into the minds of your predecessors...

Excerpt from the Fourth Book of the Medium

"Y'know, as a child, I'd never thought that I would be a teenager and already working on designing and building robots. I always thought that I would be an astronaut or something."

The blue-haired boy with faded eyes kept his mind set on his work in front of him while he conversed with his friend next to him. His friend shared a small chuckle as they both continued to work on their creation.
"Don't kid yourself. You're still very much a child, Flynn," the navy-haired girl next to him said with a smile. "Give me the regulator component, please."

Flynn felt the ground to his right, looking for the part in question. "Erm, the one that's glowing green, right?" The girl quickly swatted his hand away from the cylindrical, glowing rod.

"No, you dolt! That's the primer, don't you remember? The stupid bot's not ready to prep the primer yet!"

"You know that I can't see objects. I only see colors," he protested.

"Oh, that's right. Here, let me check." She searched the toolbox on her left, the scattered array of various parts to Flynn's right, and the shelf behind them, but she couldn't find the part she needed. "Dammit, I think Diavitae was messing with our stuff again. I'm gonna go smack him upside his head with my wrench and see if he has the regulator." She got up from the suspended platform and jumped across to the catwalk system, beginning to make her way down to the main parts of the workshop. Flynn was left alone on the suspended platform, feeling the cold, metallic surface of the robot and envisioning the details of the robot, despite the fact that he could not see like everyone else did.

"How is it looking so far?"

Flynn smiled. He knew who the voice belonged to, and he was glad that his friend was here to see how far they had come. "Well, so far, it looks like a big dark blob. That's all I can tell you from here." He laughed heartily, knowing that Zechariah was going to be there for him to the end.
"Kimira says that the research team is working on a big surprise for you. Something that might give you some help when you come around to actually using the robot, she says." Flynn could feel the platform move slightly as Zechariah carefully crossed over to it. Zechariah sat himself down where the other girl was only a few moments ago. "So, what do you think you're gonna name it?" he asked of Flynn.

"Well, I can't really decide that without my partner being here," Flynn replied with a small chuckle. "I mean, she did build most of the damn thing. At the very least, she should have a hand in its christening." Zechariah offered a small smile to that comment.

"I still wonder how you're able to design these things so well, Fly. I mean, you can't really see what you're doing, but you still manage to find a vision for it."

"Oh, stop it," Flynn teased. "Don't act like you don't know my powers as a Guardian. I can see, but I can't see at the same time. It's this weird way my brain processes this information that allows me to, well, see."

"I know, I know. But here's one think I wasn't sure about until recently. One thing that I learned when looking at how everyone interacted with each other, where we came from, and where we're going."

"And what's that, Zech?"

"Maybe there isn't so much that is different about us, after all. As much as Apollo and Artemis hate each other, they're unbelievable when they finally agree on something and work together. Same can be said about Danielle and Uriah, Io and Yuri.. pretty much every Guardian, in fact."

"Yeah, I'd say that's about right. "

"But it's weird. All of them are polar opposites and they normally hate each others' guts. But something ticks once in a while, and it all works out."

"A Dualistic Nature. That's what Metos called it before, right?"

Zechariah reflected upon this. "Yeah.. Metos did say that.
The Dualistic Nature.
That's what the Guardians come from.
And.. that's also why we're here."

ROLL TO MEDIUM: DUALISTIC NATURE [CHAPTER FOUR]

"N-no more... sleeping. Ever."
Redirect the creator golems to start creating a large, bulky golem. Set him to bake. Then make iron plates, and use them to plate the golem, like armor. Then make him a huge iron warhammer. Arise, first Goldman of the Protector Class.
Rune
Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)
Now that you have the base of your resources established, it's time to get to work on building the start of your army. You know that you have limited resources at the moment, so you decide to build a golem that is of reasonable size and defensive structure. You take control of the three Creator Golems and have them begin to shape a new golem, which you decide will be called the "Goldman," from the Protector class of golems. Your three Creators immediately begin to go to work, taking chunks of the clay and putting it together into a rough shape, then cutting away at and smoothing the various parts of the golem. Slowly, it begins to take its proper shape. With broad shoulders, a tough surface of the main body and strong build overall, you decide that the golems have done a fine job in building this golem. Its shoulders, feet and hands are a little rough around the edges, but it's not going to hinder its effectiveness at all, you think.

To round it all off, you have the golem make some shallow, curvy lines running through the body of the golem. These will be the markings that will help you to identify the golem from afar. You decide to emblazon a rough shield image into the body of the Goldman, with symmetrical lines circling the image from either side. These lines then spread out like vines to the arms and the legs of the golem. Finally, you have the Creators carve three circles into the head of the golem, signifying three eyes. Satisfied with your work, you have two of the Creators carefully place the wet clay of a golem on the magma bed and let it sit there to bake.

Throughout all of this, you have been collecting your iron supply together and preparing it for formation. With the help some of your smaller golems, you manage to pound most of the iron ingots into the form of sturdy iron plates, which will be used later for the addition of armor onto the Goldman golem. Finally, all that's let for you to do is to create the warhammer that you will have the Protector-class golem use. You take half of the ingots that you have remaining and warm them up a bit, making them easier to form to your liking. Then, you use one of your golems to easily shape the iron into the rough shape of a hammerhead. Taking back the iron part, you form the more detailed parts of the warhammer into place. Once it is formed to your liking, you retrieve a sizable branch from the forest outside of your underground facilities and carve it to fit the warhammer. You fit the pieces together and admire your work. Now that the warhammer is finished, all that's left to do is to wait for the golem to finish baking and apply the armor. Then, the  will be fit for battle.

Maybe this golem will not be the greatest and biggest of all the golems you will create. However, you are confident that this golem will serve you well to its end. He will always be the first of your army of golems to rise.

You still haven't managed the supports of the tunnels yet, unfortunately. Your golems may not be able to mine much further, for the risk of having one of the tunnels collapse is incredibly high at this point.

Threat! Mov-No. Wait. Stay stealthy and move closer, don't dash in yet.
I almost dash forwards, but stop myself and instead carefully glance around, to see how much closer I can get without being spotted. If this is the best I can do, it's the best I can do. I need to know what Artemis is going to do. I need to watch, I need to observe. I'll wait to interfere until there is combat, either Artemis attacking either of the two kids, or one kid attacking the other without Artemis stepping in to prevent it. if one of the punks attacks Artemis, that's their problem, but otherwise I'm going to try to break it up. If the "dead" kid becomes some kind of mindless monster then killing him becomes acceptable, but I'd prefer not too. Against Artemis I will go lethal from the start, but will accept him yielding or retreating without issue.
Lirian
You hesitate in your movements, almost giving in to instinct but deciding to hold back until you have more information about the situation at hand. After all, you cannot be sure what Artemis intends to do by engaging the teenagers. In order to find what he wishes to do, you must restrain yourself and wait for an opportunity to know more.
So instead of taking immediate action, you wait in the shadows.

"You're completely insane, that's all it is," the talkative boy responds to Artemis. "C'mon, Nick. Let's give him one for the night, yeah?"
The quieter boy simply looks up Artemis and puts a slow smile on his own face. It is a gesture that you find creepy, to say the least.

"You cannot begin to know the suffering that you pretend to comprehend, Artemis Dimikaelo. You do not know the unfortunate condition that life has thrown upon us."
Artemis simply shakes his head and smiles, too. With his next sentence, he addresses the particularly loquacious boy to the right of the creepy fellow.  "I wish there was some way I could help him. I really do. But it seems to be the will of some higher force that I am blind to at this moment. I am sorry, but your friend cannot be saved. He can only hope to be liberated." He explains this with a smooth voice and a calm demeanor, as if he is completely unfazed by the situation.
"I.. I don't... Nick, what's going on? Tell me!" The talkative boy is anxious now, unsure of what is happening around him now.

"I've found bliss, Mark. That's it. No more running, no more suffering. Just peace. You can join me too. We don't have to feed off of the scraps anymore. We can live now."

The talkative boy, now referred to as Mark, starts breathing with quicker pace and backing away from both Artemis and Nick. "What.. what the hell is this?"

Artemis does not pay attention to Mark. Instead, he focuses his attention on Nick and takes himself into a defensive stance. "Now, both you and I know well that you are a Shadow. There's no use trying to hide it. Now, you could just fade away peacefully into your own dimension, or you could die slowly and painfully. Which do you choose, my-"

Artemis nearly gets to finish his ultimatum before you hear a nasty howl come from the quiet boy. It doesn't even seem to be from his own voice, as if he is part of two beings at the same time. In the timeframe of a few seconds, you only manage to see a blur of movement as Nick (rather, what was Nick) jumps out towards Artemis and tries to swipe at him. Artemis deftly dodges the attack and opens his coat, revealing a sheathe that holds a somewhat long, slightly curved sword. As Nick passes him by, he uses his right hand and pulls out the sword, slicing at Nick. He manages to draw a small amount of dark red, almost black, blood. Nick tumbles a few meters away, now completely visible to you. You can see that he is no longer resembling a human, as he now has four clawed limbs replacing his hands and feet. He is completely covered in messy, blood-stained black fur, with a canine form replacing his once human body. His back is arched now as he repositions himself and growls at Artemis, paying no attention to his shallow wound. Mark is frozen in fear behind Artemis, not understanding the turn of events that he has just witnessed at this moment.

Artemis expected this. With a look of determination on his face, he readies the long, thin blade in his right hand, his left hand beckoning the newly formed monster forward.
"Slow and painful death it is. Shall we?"

Warren Drake

Listen and watch carefully, don't move.
Warren Drake
You remain ever-so-still in your hiding place, trying not to draw the attention of that... thing. It continues to move around the area of the tree, as if it was a predator attempting to seek out some sort of prey. You almost swear that the monster is looking for you, specifically; Yet it must be lacking in its senses if it cannot detect you from being this close to the tree that you are hiding in. The monster wanders a bit more around your tree, but soon becomes dissatisfied at its lack of detection of another being. With the monster frustrated at the moment, you can hear it make another series of low growls to signal its disappointment and begin to move away from the tree.

You decide to keep quiet for another few minutes, listening again for the monster. You can hear its slow, heavy footsteps as it moves around the general area of the forest that you reside in currently. Despite having moved to a different area, it doesn't seem to be giving up in its search for its objective.
"Oh, no.. not another one.."

It's that girl again. The one who assisted you and fed you. Her voice seems to indicate two things: One, that she is still at or around her home of a tree; And two, that she is addressing something other than you. You can hear a sharp screech coming from that direction, though it doesn't appear to be of the same tone as that girl's. It sounds much more deeper and.. hollow. You don't really hear anything for the next few seconds following that, but it would be hard to pick out specific movements or sounds due to your distance. Still, you can indeed hear most of what the girl is saying, if only a little quiet.

"Please, I don't want to hurt you at all. Just stay still and maybe I can help you."

You hear some growling coming from that direction and a loud hiss. You're not exactly sure what could be making those sounds, but it must be related to whatever that thing was that passed you by earlier.

"Just stop for one moment and let.. me.. help!"
You get a feeling of electricity in the air. Something powerful is happening right now. You can't tell if it is a good sign or not.
One can only hope.

go deeper into the mines and retrieve the ore if i see any explosives grab a small amount and hide it on my person
Jack Weasly
You don your tight-fitting, worn suit and mask, wondering when this thing is gonna fall apart. You know that you've inherited it from some unfortunate fellow who might have either died working in this mine or lived a short life because of it. That's what happens to most people who end up working in these mines for long enough. As much as the masks help to filter the air, this is all still on the edge of technology: a frontier that has never been explored before. Due to the circumstances of war, there is little focus on the safety of the technology. As long as it helps to contribute to victory over one's opponents, the long-term risks are less of a problem than the immediate concerns of battle. The risk is belittled further due to the small value of people who live in the Middle Areas of the Empire.

Once you prepare your equipment, you move down the tunnel to meet up with your workmates. As of now, you currently work in a small team of three with two other people: Jack Olias and Aneita Metter. You've known the two of them for a couple of years now, but never really talked too much to either of them until now. The three of you are now embedded in a bond of fate, doomed to die working in these mines. That is, unless you can make a way out for yourself.

You meet the two of them at an in-between area that is cut out in the middle of two of the tunnels. Both of them have their equipment together and ready to go. Both of them wear their standard expressions, Aneita looking anxious and Jack being quite bored with the day.
"Hey, Weasly. Looking as sharp as ever today, 'uh?" Olias remarks in an uninterested tone.

"Morning, Weasly." Aneita fidgets around, adjusting her mask and clothes every so often.

"Well, we shouldn't keep them waitin' now. Let's go."
The three of you walk down to the proper section of the tunnels and move into a newly-formed hole in the tunnel, made by the explosives that were detonated not too long ago. Jack Olias takes the lead and brings over a minecart using the rail system leading up to the tunnel. Both Aneita and Olias then begin to pick through the rubble, looking for the signature green-silver shine of the acelium ore.

Meanwhile, you decide to take an unorthodox approach to the matter today. Of course, you move over to help Aneita and Olias collect the acelium, but at the same time you keep your eyes out for the Detonation Team. They're the ones who apparently handle the explosives in this area of the mines, so they should have some explosives near them that you might be able to snatch.

About thirty minutes go by before you see the Detonation Team down your tunnel again. They appear to be loitering near the crossroads of the tunnels and chatting about something. Meanwhile, the three of you have filled about a quarter of the minecart so far. The acelium ore in this tunnel seems to be particularly sparse, as you cannot find much of it just yet. You wait another minute or two for Aneita and Olias to become focused on their work, so that you might be able to sneak away and attain some of the explosives that -
"Please don't try this again Weasly," you hear Aneita whisper to you from behind. "You've already gotten caught for it once. If you try it again, they might arrest you for doing this. Don't take that chance."

Cecil takes a few steps back, shocked by what he sees. A-are you sure you can't be helped?

Wait for response. If I can, do what I must.

Otherwise run. Try to make it back to the library. It was large enough to find a place to hole up for the night.

Cecil G. Palmer
The man stops and takes a deep breath before turning around to face you. When he does, it seems like he has a slight smile on his face, as if he's almost pitying you from the situation.
"I am long gone. Soon I will be completely with them, fallen into the darkness. Then I will know my peace." He turns back to the direction that he was walking to before and says a final few words for you.

"Don't waste your time saving the damned."
His voice reverberates through your minds. You slowly begin walking towards the city. Now, you begin to hear it: the small chatter and the low howls of the night. It sounds as if several hundred spirits were conversing in quiet tones. You can't make out any specific words, but you hear whispers in the night, like the wind whistling into your ears. You quicken your own pace and being running to the information commons, hoping that you can get there in time.

It's not long before you make your way across the walkways and find the information commons again. You don't think that it will be open right now, though it wouldn't hurt to try the door. You attempt to open the door and, to your amazement, it is unlocked. Without hesitation, you make your way inside and close the door behind you.

Now, it is just you and the dark, empty library. No, wait - in the upper parts of the building, you can see light coming down to the lower floors. You wonder if someone is indeed here, and that they just left the door open, or if there's some other shenanigans going on here.
The area around you is empty, save for the bottom shelves and the central desk. Behind that is the arrangement of tables, chairs, and lounges for people to socialize or read comfortably. Once again, you can see the platforms and the boxes suspended above you. From some floor above you, the soft, yellow-white light emanates.

"In terms of the relevance of all this, it should be noted that human matters are probably secondary to whatever is actually happening. And while the chance of these stories having much to do with whatever's happening is admittedly remote, I have also seen somebody who reasonably fits the description of a golden god of the sun just earlier today, complete with the expected demeanor. So there is at least that little correlation to go off of."

"But anyway, you refer to 'old texts', as in, not oral histories or traditions. Where could these be found, and do they belong to the Atisi?"

Eh Ah
"In my experience, I've found these types of stories to be a type of 'thought primer,'" he explains to you. "Sometimes you will not find a direct correlation between whatever is found through the facts, and sometimes you will. But what's important is how you are able to interpret it, and what your perspective is on the situation. Maybe your observations would be important to your exploration of the recent events, indeed."

"But anyway, you refer to 'old texts', as in, not oral histories or traditions. Where could these be found, and do they belong to the Atisi?"

He sighs with an aura of contemplation surrounding him. "We do not have many texts that refer to fables or myths that belong to the Atisi, unfortunately. Sure, you'll find one or two, but they'll be small stories. We do, however, have a surprising amount of poetry and data collected on various creatures and plants!" He gives a warm laugh before cleaning up the tea cups and the container, moving to store them away. He then returns in quick fashion and checks the window near you.
"It looks like the Theyins are out and about again." he gestures you over to the window and you check. Indeed, Seira and her group of soldiers are looking around the village, presumably for you.

"It is such a shame that things have gotten the way they are now. Invading a helpless island like ours... what do we have to offer that would prompt such an invasion?"
Outside, you can see that Seira Theyin is still looking around. You assume that she's probably looking around to find you. You also notice that the sky outside seems to be completely dark, save for one single star. It strikes you as odd, but maybe there's an abundance of clouds in the night sky tonight. Regardless, you stow this in the back of your mind and prepare yourself to move. Wouldn't want to keep the Empress waiting, now would we?

Move to the group, and see if I can join in. If not , enjoy drink like before
Cat Schrodinger
You approach the fine gentlemen and women who are currently lounging near the back of the room. They all appear to be dressed reasonably well, each in their own coat or dress in various shades of white or blue. Other than that, you can't really tell where they're from. You've never seen them before on the island; Perhaps they arrived just today with the arrival of ships from the mainland. Despite this, you decide to introduce yourself and make conversation with the peculiar group of fellows.

You walk up to their table and nod your head, stating your name and introducing yourself with formal manner to the group. Two of them, a man and a woman, stand up to greet you.
"Good morning, Professor Schrodinger," the woman with dark-brown hair says to you. "My name is Janice Walker, and these are my associates from the Teranu College. We're pleased to meet you. You're welcome to sit with us." Taking their invitation, you take the seat nearest to you and make yourself comfortable. A waitress makes her way to your table, complete with a silver-and-white uniform dress.

"Good morning, everyone. My name is Lila, and I will be your hostess today. What would you like to order?"

The woman who greeted you before responds, seeming to be at the head of the group at the moment. "My company has already received our meal, thank you. However, I don't believe our fellow has gotten a chance yet. What would you like, Professor Schrodinger?" You state that you would like to try the Juumith Blend that they are currently offering.

The waitress responds cheerily: "Fine choice, sir. Is there anything else that you would like?" You decide not to order anything else for now, and the waitress heads off to get your drink. Ms. Walker then turns to you once again.
"Excuse me, Professor Schrodinger. Is there a chance that you are from the University of Telenos?"

"Of course, I am a Professor of Studies of Paradoxes. I am currently involved in research delving into some of the greater mysteries and inconsistencies of the universe."
Ms. Walker smiles and pushes a small, light-blue envelope to your side of the table. "Well, if you don't mind, Professor Schrodinger, my associates need to pass on a letter to Ms. Parker, from the Biological Studies division of the university. If you would be so kind as to deliver this note to Ms. Parker?"

Let them take me to where they want. I can at least learn the layout.
Alex Raman
You decide to make the best of the situation at hand and learn about your surroundings. Maybe you can get an idea of where you are exactly, and how you will be able to plan your escape. Then, you will be free to roam as you please and wreck havoc as you see fit.

From the main gate, you find that there are guard towers posted every so often at intervals along the walls. They were not so obvious before when you were immediately up against the wall, but you can see now how they intended to manage the wall. In front of you, there is a small arch that you must past under before you get to the farm fields in the outer part of the city. The farms here, under threat of freezing, have been secured by building large greenhouses over most of the larger fields - the fields that are not covered are completely bare. You think that they have either frozen over and died or that they were never planted to begin with, to save resources and time. It is a couple of minutes of a walk to get to the main part of the city.

From there, you can see the design of the city. The city is made in a circular fashion, surrounded on all sides by either roads or fields, which are then further surrounded by the walls. The buildings that compose the city are mainly one or two-story buildings which appear to be of sturdy construction and neat design. There are some aging houses, but for the most part the building are well-kept and neat. They appear to be focused around the design of sloped roofs and narrow walkways between some of the buildings. However, this is only the face of the city; you're not sure how the inside of the city will look, but you assume that you'll find that out soon enough.

You make mental notes of potential escapes or utilities that you could use. The walkways between some of the houses that you can see could make for some easy escapes or sudden changes in route. The closeness of the buildings also would make it easier for you to hide inside the city. However, once you are outside of the main city, you must travel through the fields, which would make it quite difficult to hide in. This is compounded due to the fact that you will also have to make your way from the fields to the wall, which would certainly be guarded most of the time. The whole city appears to be a prison in and of itself. However, as you get closer to the city, you also notice that there are some other details that may help you: you notice that there are some power lines located on the outside of some of the older buildings. Of course, this suggests the presence of technology. Maybe you could use something to help you find out your location currently, and look to where you can go from here.

The two guards take you to the edge of the city and turn you sharply to the right. From there, you take a few more steps before entering into a flat, square building at the edge of the city. This would appear to be the jail of the city, you'd think. Once the three of you enter inside, one of the guards lets go of you while moving to the front desk to collect something. From here, you can see that this front room leads out to a door to the right and a door behind the front desk. Other than that, the entire place seems to be rather lacking in decorations and general life.

((Sorry, sickness))

Has something inhabited my spring? Won't matter--need to move to a better location, and this cancels out the nearest water source as aid.

...I do hope that the beachfront still carries whatever left of-
I need to bring him to safety. Then return with water. Please hold on...

Eleri quietly whined as she noted the severity of this man's wounds. She felt something which she should have long forgotten, buried under what she counted as detached memories from her psyche: fear.

She calmly exhaled as she returned to her senses. No matter what any single one of his kind did, they were all different. This, at least, she knew at heart, and even if they weren't--she was different from any of them; it was not in her nature to abandon aid.

"I will carry you to safety."

Get him to my 'home' at the beach! Hopefully the situation calls for adrenaline ._.
Eleri
Waiting and being indecisive will only result in precious time being lost here. Instead of worrying about his smaller wounds, you have to make sure that he doesn't bleed out immediately. However, you don't really have a stable place to treat him at the moment. You decide that it would be best to bring him to your home at the ghost town and treat him there. Hopefully, you will be able to find the proper resources to heal him closer to your shelter.

Slowly, you begin to slide your arms under his body and wrap them around his legs and upper torso. You can hear him yelp in pain, but you can't focus on that right now. Yes, he'll be experiencing some uncomfortable sensations, but he's not going to be able to receive treatment unless you get him out of here. You attempt to secure your grip on him, but your hands are slick and not able to manage him correctly. Unfortunately, you don't think you have the time to try and fix your posture and your grip, so you haul him up anyways and carry him. You're not the strongest of people, so you visibly exert much energy in trying to keep him in your arms. The downhill slope should alleviate some of your difficulties, however, so you trudge down to the side of the hill and begin to slowly walk your way down to the shoreline again.

You're not sure how you're able to manage this for the time that you do, but you find the energy to keep your legs moving and your arms steady. It's not long before you make it down to the pathway of houses once again and back to your shelter. You try to carefully let him down onto the floor of the ancient building, but you are extremely tired from your travel down the hill. Instead, you accidentally drop him down, making him cry out in pain once again. Well, not that he wasn't already groaning and moaning before, it's just that he is in even more pain now. You wince at your own weakness, but there's no time to focus on that.

Tired and confused, you've managed to get him down from the hill to your own little shelter, where you'll be able to help him with haste. Thankfully, he seems to be developing scabs now, a sign that he is at least able to have his body heal himself a bit. However, he'll still need sustenance and care if he is to recover in the short run, if not also the long run.

"I.. I don't k-kn-n-ow who y-you are-e, but please.. get m-me s-so-o-me f-fresh wa-at-ter... p-please!" He seems to have difficulty whispering the words to you, signaling that he is still of weak mind and body right now. You're not sure if you should begin by fetching him some fresh water or working on bandaging his wounds now. Either would be far preferable to simply standing around and worrying about the situation.

You still haven't a clue about what might have attacked him, as he doesn't seem particularly menacing of a person, even if he didn't have the injuries. You feel like you'll need to find out what attacked him later, and how you can prevent this from happening again in the future.

Author's Note: No author's note today, as I will have a message coming up that addresses my recent absences in posting.
I hope you all have a good day/night,
Artemis.

Dash in and get on the opposite side of the shadow from Artemis, keeping it between the two of us. If it focuses on me then stay defensive, avoiding and defending against it, but every time it turns away then I'll go on the attack until it turns back around. take this thing out!

So, where the heck have I been and why are the updates so inconsistent?

That's a very good question, Mr. or Ms. Guardian/Medium.

There have been a number of factors that have contributed to my slow-down and overall tardiness when it comes to getting out these updates. It's not just that they're pretty long, because I would like to write shorter updates on a consistent schedule. The thing is, however, that I am dealing with various health issues due to a lack of sleep and some mental problems that I am currently going through. Combine this with a ramp-up of homework and several incidents of family strife, and you get a terribly inefficient person who is not able to manage multiple different things at one time.

But this does not mean that I am going to stop updating this; That is certainly not the case. However, as you have seen, the updates have been infrequent and varying in length and detail. I am always trying to improve and trying to get the updates out as soon as humanly possible, but sometimes the circumstances do not allow for that to happen. I do thank you for sticking out for it thus far and awaiting the arrival of the updates.

The trouble of recent events have slowed me down indeed, but it's steadily getting better. Hopefully, I will be able to do updates with more frequency in the future and more consistency. I may not be able to promise that now, but it is indeed a priority in my mind and something I aim for when writing the updates.

I thank you for reading this and I hope you all have a great week,

Artemis.

My action's coming soon, but just posting this to say, if I EVER say Goldman in a turn, I mean golem. It's stupid autocorrect. HE. IS. NOT. GOLDMAN!
Alright, here's likely what I'm going to be doing with golem classification.
In size order:
Minion Golem: Half the size of a man, is used for smaller tasks (Ba-dum-tish).
Worker Golem: The first golems I ever created, about my size. They do most tasks around here, especially mining.
Creator Golem: These golems are used entirely for creation of things, be it smelting, smithing, or golem creation.
Soldier Golem: Four armed, Eyes all around the head, four legs. Can attack in all directions, move in all directions, and see in all directions.
Protector Golem: Used entirely as a vanguard to me, or to protect the other golems on important missions. Clad in plating for extra defense.
Annihilator Class Golem: Thrice as tall as a man, and twice as broad. This golem utilizes two giant arms, and two legs, and will use sheer force to slay his foes. Essentially, My battering rams.
Titan Class: Ten times as tall as I, and far more broad in the shoulders, this colossal behemoth is a city crusher. He wields two huge warhammers, and uses huge, brick like feet to stomp any foe in his way.
Omega Class: Effectively, imagine a titan class golem's bigger brother. Now imagine him with 16 arms, and 16 warhammers. And full body plating. And eyes everywhere. And spikes covering his body plating. And he's always pissed at everything. I hope I never have to build one of these....

Oh, you want my action? Fine...

Continue monitoring the Guardian Golem's creation. Order the golems to go outside, cut trees, grab long plants for lashings, and have them start making supports in the tunnels.

Hug the tree and hold on tight, try not to fall off if something blows up.

Eh Ah

"Believe it or not, sir, it is visions that they seek."

He gets up.

"And on that note, you have been very kind to provide me with all this information. Thank you. I may seek you out later if possible - but for now, I must bid you adieu. Great to have met you, sir."

Bid adieu, then leave politely and reunite with the Empress outside.

Bumpity bump-bump! Need a couple more people to post before I finish the update. I don't want to leave people out, considering the length of the turns.

((I'm more sorry! RL hit me like a very hard object with a lot of force in the impact!))
Eleri wondered if this was an accident because of whatever resided in the area she took upon for water, or whether it was something near the location instead--either way, the time to breathe and consider the situation was vital to a life.

Nodding and stepping towards the spring, a thought hit her. Weren't requests for water signifying bloodloss and a need for hydration? A set of panic and fear hit her as she turned around to examine the man. His clotting speed was quick, that was a good sign of a healthy body. The improvised wrap of herbs would aid him, at least superficially.

"You will be ok." she manages, before looking towards the skies and the spring. It was getting darker, and she bet that when she arrives at the area, it would be very perilous. She wondered if a full moon would be the night: at least there'd be less to track but what she would see.

Search around for anything that I can use as a weapon, or if in case of any accidents, a long and sturdy branch.
Head to spring with bucket for water.
Hope that the man won't die in prayer.

Yes, I received your PM, don't worry. It's just that I've been struggling in combating some personal issues in the past few weeks like I addressed after this previous turn; However, the next turn should be up in the next couples of days.

TURN THIRTY-FIVE: WE DEPART ONCE AGAIN

Okay, I finally have freed up more time for myself. Now, I can spend more time writing this. In order to make the transition, I will begin to decrease the size of the updates in trade for an upgraded frequency of updates. They won't be at the same frequency as before, but they'll still be pretty sizable, in order to preserve the novel format of this RtD.

Again, thank you for sticking around and I hope you enjoy this update. Take care!

Lirian

Dash in and get on the opposite side of the shadow from Artemis, keeping it between the two of us. If it focuses on me then stay defensive, avoiding and defending against it, but every time it turns away then I'll go on the attack until it turns back around. take this thing out!
Lirian
[SPD: 6 + 4 = 10, complete agility] You decide that, out of the two currently in front of you, the monster will be the greater threat here. You move with grace and adrenaline on your side, appearing like a blur to Artemis and the monster. Neither of them have time to react before you appear a few meters away from Artemis and face the monster. You keep your face indifferent, trying not to show any emotions to them. The less they know about you, the better off you think you'll be in the end.

Instinctively, Artemis faces you and raises his sword towards you before he recognizes your face. "What the... wait, it's.. what the hell are you doing here?!" You don't even bother explaining to him and gesture back toward the monster. The disturbing silhouette of a wolf growls at the two of you and backs up slowly. Artemis looks back and forth between you and the monster, not able to consider who to target. After a few short moments, he seems to make his decision and holds his guard toward the monster. Judging his options, the monster becomes wary of the situation that he has gotten himself in. He lets out a fearsome howl and sprints on all fours in the other direction, using the darkness to escape. Artemis begins to run after the wolf and disregards you.

"Dammit, come back! I'm not.. done.. with you!" You chase after him and find that he has stopped after a short distance, deciding that it's not worth it to go on a hunt for this thing. You're at the northern end of the town now, somewhat near the forest line where you have made your small shelter. He hears you behind him and puts his sword in a defensive stance. "I lost him because of you! If you wouldn't have come, I would have had him by now and he'd be dead! Where the hell did you get a sword from, anyway?"

Before you can answer him, you hear some more howling in the treeline. Shortly after, you see some figures coming out of the treeline. They seem as dark as the wolf before, except you can't really make out their shapes in the low light of the edge of the town. You count at least five or six distinct, small figures, and one very large figure lumbering out of the edge of the forest. A low, ground-rumbling groan comes from the direction of the shadowy figures. You look to Artemis and he seems to be slightly annoyed, as if this is an inconvenience for him.

"Oh. It would seem that he brought some friends. How wonderful." He takes a deep breath and puts his sword up again in a fighting stance. "I'll deal with you later. Right now, I need to clean up your mess." Without waiting for you, he strides forward nonchalantly towards the new pack of monsters that has arrived.

It looks like you have made a wonderful second impression on Artemis Dimikaelo.

My action's coming soon, but just posting this to say, if I EVER say Goldman in a turn, I mean golem. It's stupid autocorrect. HE. IS. NOT. GOLDMAN!

Oh, you want my action? Fine...

Continue monitoring the Guardian Golem's creation. Order the golems to go outside, cut trees, grab long plants for lashings, and have them start making supports in the tunnels.

Rune
((Noted. Replacing all texts of "golem" with "goldman."
...just kidding. All of your class indications have been noted, and I'll make sure that autocorrect doesn't screw anything up. Roll log isn't really needed here, considering that your golems will be doing menial tasks and you will have more time to improve the quality of the armoring, despite any imperfections in the process. So, don't worry about that, it'll be fine.))

With no supports holding the tunnels up, you decide that it's about time that you sent the golems to collect some wood and plant material to support the tunnels. As you send the golems up to do their thing, you work on setting the armor plating on the Protector golem, so as to provide a decent amount of defense for the golem. The armor is not thick, but it will suffice for now. At the very least, you do not expect major threats right now. After all, nobody knows who you are and what you are doing down here.

Well, that's an assumption. Maybe you should keep your work under wraps for now. There will be time for chaos later; But if someone finds your factory, it'll be over before it even started.

And so you spend your evening accordingly, weakly ordering the golems to do nondescript tasks and working on plating the armor yourself. With the slight vibrations of the ground keeping you company, you fit the armor pieces into place as you shape them into their proper sizes. Slowly but surely, the Protector golem is built up and, after almost an hour, is ready to go. You command it to rise and watch as it picks itself up from the ground, taking up the warhammer and staring at you. At last, your work has paid off.

The other golems return down with plenty of wood and some leafy plants to create supports. Without much mindpower needed, you send them off to begin building the supports for the caves. The operation appears to be running quite smoothly overall, despite some minor hitches that you've had in the past couple of days. Maybe you can even get a small squad of golems done before the sun sets on tomorrow.

+20 wooden logs
+10 medium bundles of leaves

+2 supports completed during timeframe, 3 currently being worked on.

Protector class Golem is ready. (+2 DEF to torso, legs and upper arms due to Iron Armor)

Warren Drake

Hug the tree and hold on tight, try not to fall off if something blows up.
Warren Drake
"It'll be okay, just relax for a moment, just relax!"
You're not sure who that girl is talking to now, but it would seem that she's making something dangerous happen right now. You hug yourself to the tree as tight as you can, so as to avoid falling off if there is an explosion of some sort. You begin to hear a soft whine in your ears - not exactly uncomfortable, but definitely noticeable and unique in sound. You turn your head back to the area that you were in before, where the girl and her tree are. Closing your eyes, you listen for anything out of the ordinary that might hint you to what is going on.

Along with the whine and the soft glow coming from that area, you hear some minor things. You can hear some small huffs and struggles, a few muffled growls and a couple of shifts in the wind. Multiple times, the intensity of the glow and the whine fluctuates over time. Finally, the whine fades out and you hear a yelp from the girl. You're not sure what happened, as you cannot visually see the events that took place. All you know is that something involving high amounts of energy happened and finally faded out. There is still a very small amount of light coming from the area of the tree, but it is nowhere near the intensity that it was before. The wind has settled back down to a calm breeze, and the night continues with a depressed melody. The only thing disturbing the environment is the sound of small whimpers coming from the direction that the light came from again. You're pretty sure that it's the girl again, but you're not exactly sure what she just did or why she's crying now.

This place seems to get weirder and weirder with every hour that passes by. In a small compartment of your mind, you keep the idea of building a raft and sailing away from here fresh in your subconscious.

Eh Ah
To your response, the older man looks at you with a slight smile in his eyes and gives a small grunt of contemplation. "And to you as well. Have a safe trip, I do wish for you." Without wasting any more time, you quietly exit the small house and locate the Empress outside. It isn't that hard to spot her, really. She seems to be rather energized, if not excited right now. Once her retinue spots you, she waves the group forward and the other soldiers begin moving ahead through the village and to the forest, presumably back to the informal headquarters of the Theyin Empire's forces on the island. Seira also begins walking too, but at a more leisurely rate.

You accompany the Empress in her walk, her regal cloak falling behind her smooth stride. You don't think you've seen her this calm since her initial landing on the island. Still, you can see in her eyes that she is reinvigorated. Something she found has sparked a newfound life within her. You can't decide if that is for better or for worse yet.

"Oh, you're back. How quaint." She tries to take on a tone of annoyance, but you can tell that she is far from annoyed right now; In reality, she seems to be rather invigorated. You reply with basic courtesy and inform you that you have garnered some interesting knowledge from one of the village's members.
"Mm.. good work, Mr. Eh Ah. We shall discuss our findings once we return to the offices. Now then, I do wish to know one thing from you." You ask her what she is interested in.
"Tell me about your growth on the island of Atis. I wish to know more about how a common person on this island... lives."

((You're open to create your own backstory here, as long as it is in line with whatever knowledge you have now about your past (fish market, Aecrocian, etc). Anything else, like your childhood, familial ties, or origin are up to you.
Or, optionally, you could choose to not tell anything to her. Or you could be vague. That's all up to you!))

AAA I FORGOT SORRY HAHA

Go check out the light. But do so quietly. If caught, be all sheepish and apologetic because I don't know customs very well.
Cecil G. Palmer
It is nice to have some peace and quiet for a change. The thoughts and the voices seem to have left you, no longer accosting you for their time. It is almost too quiet for you, including the fact that there is light on the floors above you. Maybe the managers of the building left without turning off all of the lights? You're not sure, but it still seems somewhat ominous. Nevertheless, light most likely means someone else is here, which may be a blessing during this nightmare of a day. You decide that you'll be cautious about your ascent and be as quiet as possible while investigating the source of the light. It can't hurt that much to be curious, right?

((Of course, unless you consider that "curiosity killed that cat."))

You carefully ascend the stairwell, looking around for anything out of the ordinary. The suspended boxes are completely still, the books and other miscellaneous items stocked in neat, proper order. Various magazines, articles, and booklets, all from another time, are interspersed between different halls and boxes from the various floors. It really seems like an unnecessary complexity, but you suppose that it works for a library that has to work around being vertically aligned. The light intensifies as you move up the floors and, as you reach the sixth floor, you find the source of the light.

There is a single box located on the sixth floor that is sealed off on all sides but one, where an extremely bright light emanates from. It seems to be golden-white and splendid in nature, almost as if you can taste it. This side has one window where the light originates from and has a rusted, broken-looking door handle on the right side. You cannot determine what is inside of the box because of the bright light that blinds you if you look at it.

You're not sure if it is some sort of trap or not. It might either be your salvation or your abrupt end currently. It is your choice at this moment which dictates your future.

((I'm more sorry! RL hit me like a very hard object with a lot of force in the impact!))

Search around for anything that I can use as a weapon, or if in case of any accidents, a long and sturdy branch.
Head to spring with bucket for water.
Hope that the man won't die in prayer.

Eleri
Your assessment of the boy's health seems to be correct. It is fortunate that his body is healing quickly, or else you're not sure if he would have survived this long. Like said before, it is a miracle that he is even alive, given the severity of his injuries and the unknown amount of time that he spent up there. Maybe there will still be hope for him yet, considering your treatment of him.

You might even just find a friend. But first, he must heal and restore his health. Maybe he resides in the town on the other side of the island. That will come after you assure his safety.

You leave him in the building on his stomach and exit the building with the bucket in hand. You'll need to find water for him, as he may be dehydrated. That would be reasonable to expect considering that, if he is from the town, it would have been quite a far trip without water. As the day grows long and the sun travels along the sky, however, you figure that you will eventually need a weapon to protect yourself with. Might as well look for it now while you are retrieving the water, it would seem. Something better than a simple stick would be preferable, but you will take what you can get on this foreign island.

So you make your way on the path that leads up to the hill and you move up the hill to the spring, just like your first trip here. On the way, you observe the trees around you, looking for a fallen branch or something of the sort that may be used as a defensive weapon. Unfortunately, nothing really catches your eye, as most of the forest is simply littered by small sticks and some acorns. It isn't too long before you reach the spring again and take a look at the grass, seeing the blood and some black splatters.

The spring itself seems to be just the same way that you left it. You closely inspect it, looking for any visible signs that the water might have some hazardous material in it, but there is nothing out of the ordinary that you can see. You do, however, find a rusty iron knife lodged in between a couple of rocks on the shallow side of the spring. It's somewhat brittle and does not seem to be very sharp, but it is still a weapon nonetheless. At the very least, you can use it to ward off any animals that try to come near you and the boy. Other than that, the rest of the spring appears to be potable to you. You fill the bucket with some of the spring's water and hurry back down the side of the hill, arriving down at the path within a few minutes.

You enter the building that you put the boy in earlier and find him the same as he was. His breathing is still shallow and remains quiet, but he doesn't seem to be in nearly as much pain as before. He hears you enter and speaks out loud.

"Hello? Is.. is it y-you?"

"Yes, it's me. Just relax. I have water for you." You move near him and try to offer him the water, but he makes negative-sounding groan.

"N-no.. not d-drinking," he says quietly. "It's.. it's in my s-skin.. w-wash it out, pl.. please." He grits his teeth and lifts his left arm for you. You examine it and find small traces of dark, blackish matter in his wounds. You assume that's what he's referring to. That may explain his presence at the spring; Maybe he was trying to wash this matter off.

Jack Weasly (high tyrol)
You sympathize with Aneita Metter. You haven't known her for too long, but you know that she also has no family to speak of. Jack Olias has a family, but they are poor and not able to sustain themselves properly, which is why Olias has to work down here with the two of you. Because of this, you can understand why Aneita does not want to take any risks down on these mines. But you know why you need to do this: there is no escape from this life, and if you don't keep trying, you'll be stuck here until you die. Although you know that Aneita and Olias wish to leave too, they don't have the willpower to try and escape like you do.

You leave them alone and move over to the area that the explosives team is in. Hopefully, they won't notice you in your uniform. It will be tough to convince them, but if you can pop in a short question and leave, you don't think that they'll be able to identify you before you are gone. You walk with a brisk pace and make it over to the group of four that makes up the explosives team.
They seem to be wound up in small talk, awaiting their next tasking in the area. Quickly and with brevity, you ask one of the members about the amount of explosives it would take to blow a two-foot wide shaft to the surface.

"Mm, I'd say a good couple- wait, why do you want to know? Aren't you part of the collection team?" Through his absentmindedness, he almost gave you the answer, but it appears that he's not as distracted as you thought he was. Now it'll seem suspicious that a random person has asked a question about explosives, especially pertaining to blowing a hole to the surface. The other two don't seem to be that interested in your small dialogue, but the man who you addressed is now turned to you, his attention cast squarely on you.

Maybe it would have benefited you to be a bit more careful in choosing your words, so as not to alarm anyone.

"It is of no issue. Is it of any major importance? When should Parker receive this?
Take the card, and put it in my pocket. Go immediately if urgent. If not, enjoy my drink and listen to the conversation
Cat Schrodinger
You receive the card from the woman and pocket the message, asking her if it is of immediate need.
"It is not urgent, but please do deliver it as soon as your schedule allows you to. I appreciate your help, Professor Schrodinger," she says with an appreciative smile. "Do you know anyone from the Teranu College, Professor? I don't expect you to, considering that the college is on the mainland. However-" She does not finish her sentence, as the waitress makes her way over and brings you the Juumith Special drink. It is in a tall glass, with a dense orange color to it.

You take the glass and thank Lila for the drink. As she departs, you take a small sip of the drink and find it to be bitter and sweet at the same time. Taking more of the drink in, you find that it strikes an equilibrium between bitter and sweet at the same time, pulling you between two equally balanced emotions. One thing you can say for certain is that it is quite the drink.

"I hope you enjoy the drink, Professor. It is of our courtesy," she says warmly. Oddly enough, you haven't heard the others in the group talk that much. Maybe they are preoccupied in their own work, but you would expect at least one of the others to say one word or more. It strikes you as odd, but you think nothing much of it all the more.

"Erm, Janice. Should we discuss the topic of Doctor Ki-"

"Ah, yes. We should talk about that at a later time, shall we? We have a guest right now, and it would be wrong not to entertain him." She once again smiles innocently, but you're curious about what one of the other gentlemen was going to bring up. Nevertheless, you keep polite and exchange small talk with the members of the group.

try to kill him by making it look like it was cold and an icicle fell into him.
Alex Raman
Even if there were icicles inside of the building, you would be hard-pressed to find an opportune moment to actually hit the soldiers without them suspecting something, no matter what power you had. Unfortunately, there are no icicles within the interior of the building, which makes it difficult for you to actually do anything about that. Still, you try to gesture up from the ground and produce some kind of ice from between the cracks. This building seems old enough to allow water through the building; Maybe you could harness some of that to your advantage.

It doesn't appear to work the way you want it to, however. You make increasingly greater gestures,  trying to get something to come out of the wood of the floor or maybe the walls - yet nothing works. meanwhile, the guard holding you is becoming more suspicious, and gives you a good, short push in order to assert that he is in control of you.
"Hey! Cut that out. I already had a piss-poor night, and I don't need some idiot like you making it worse. Keep yourself still or I'll make you sit still." His voice is jagged and obnoxious, though there's not much that you can do about that. The building does not want to give you any moisture to create ice, nor any room to pull ice from outside. You're going to have to wait for a moment to be creative and figure out a way to do this.

The older soldier returns in short order and accompanies you once again, bringing you through the door to the right. From this side is a hallway of holding cells that extends around the left, presumably to another hallway of cells, or perhaps the soldiers' garrison. The cells are fairly plain and uninteresting, though you don't expect a jail cell to be fabulous in nature. The cells are contained by metal doors and reinforced glass windows surrounding the doors. Inside of the cells are basic mattresses, thin blankets, and small pillows, all in various shades of gray. There are a couple of barred windows at the top of the cells, but they seem to be out of reach and not big enough for you to be able to crawl out of. Down the hallway, more cells line the wall, with a restroom in the middle of the left side of the hallway.

"This is where you'll be staying for the night. You will be greeted by an officer tomorrow morning to sort out your details. Have a nice night."

The older officer opens the door to the third cell on the right side of the hallway out of five cells, and the younger one shoves you inside, the door being locked behind you. You still have your clothes, your locket, and your ball with you, but you've no other way to get out of this place for now.

Looks like you will either have to get imaginative or brave out the night until morning.

Author's Note: I'm not sure how shortened this is compared to previous updates, but this is what I managed. The other updates ahead of this one should be even shorter, so as to accommodate for a greater frequency of turns.
As always, have a good week,
Artemis.

Plate the Protector once more, and order the other golems to stop with the support building. Have them start chopping wood and building a large boat. At the same time, have them haul up the more precious resources we have encountered, especially the iron. Finally, see how the construction is going, being accompanied by my new guardian.

"Well, here's to fate, Cecil..." He says to himself as he fiddles around in his pockets for a coin.

Upon not finding one, he realizes that, of course, he's a refugee here.

His curiosity getting the best of him, Cecil goes to check the bright glowing light. If the shadows were scary and mocking, hopefully the light is better.
