"How refreshing, boats. In a port town. This is absolutely a reason for everyone to disobey proper protocol and stare at them. Yes, yes. We all know the schedule. No one is supposed to be coming in, but I strangely don't think customs or homeland defense fall under our jurisdiction." Index finger and thumb crushing his nose in an expression of universal irritation, Arnequer points at the gilded sign hanging proudly over his office proclaiming 'Department of Health Services' and let out his third exasperated sigh of that hour. "With that astoundingly difficult question answered with absolute certainty, it would likely be fortuitous to stop gawking like idiots." He collapsed into his chair and waited to see if his authority could be challenged by the heretofore unknown spectacle of boats in a bloody port. It really wouldn't surprise him if it could.

"That is good to know, as I dare not venture to guess what somebody who slams into me could want from me. Presumably nothing good. I am glad that you are merely awkward, then. No offense, naturally."

Eh Ah & Warren Drake
After a very short encounter, and you two sorting out things, Eh Ah decides to get back to what he was doing before. What was he doing? Oh, yeah. He was taking his break from his work. You start off to head back to your job, but you are interrupted by a screeching noise. You turn back to see what looks like a bright star being launched from one of the ships out there. It burns red and bright.

And suddenly all hell breaks loose as somewhere between twenty and thirty ships thump with explosive force, projectiles launched into the air and sailing towards the islands of Atis.

Use my clay to mold a shield-like shape, them put it on a hot stone near the back of the cave, where the walls abruptly end with black stone that is boiling hot. Cook the clay shield into bricks.
Rune
You return to the center of your humble abode where you take some clay and begin molding a shield. It turns out rather well, with smooth edges and wonderful design. You put it on the black stone to cook. The shield starts rattling on the stone, however. You hear something like an explosion behind you, far out, as if it were in the sea itself. You can only wonder to what it is. Meanwhile, the shield begins its baking process.

I nod and click my teeth together in agreement.

Keep helping the blacksmith. Not much else I can do anyways.
Unknown
You finish working on the steel. You sink it into water to cool, and take it out and set it to dry, where it will be another blade for the Magis forces to use. It is a fine craft indeed, sharp-edged and straight to the point.
The blacksmith continues to pack. You faintly hear a screeching noise outside. And then, a thump, as if the ocean had decided to explode all its waters simultaneously. The blacksmith looks up from his packing. His eyes are full of sorrow and regret; not for himself, but for others.
"Mmm. 'tis begun."

"Who are you, and what do you want from me?"
Lirian
You demand to know who this unseen force is, and what they want from you. You turn around and see her.
She is translucent, as if she is merely a spirit. She wears a t-shirt and a coat that have both been cut at the midriff. Her shirt is simply red and her coat is a sort of grey. She wears a silver pendant that represents a fire with an arrow in the middle. Her hair is in a sort of ponytail, but messy and wild. She wears a mock witch hat, black and crooked. She wears sneakers and ripped jeans. Her smile is devilish, and her eyes glow red. Her skin is somewhat pale.

She snickers audibly. "'Who are you,' she says! 'whaddya want from me', she says! Haha, like I haven't heard that a million times before." She sits upon the same branch you are on, but it doesn't seem to be that her weight affects anything.
"Let's start with you. Yer name is Lirian, yeh hang with two other girls. That's it, mm? Hmhm. I've seen better. Look, certain things are happening. I ain't gonna go melodramatic on you, but yer part of something else that-"
She stops mid-sentence, staring into the distance. Her eyes glass over, and she seems to be remembering something else.
"Hm? Oh, yeah. Whether yeh like it or not, you and I are in this for the long haul. All I'm gonna tell yeh is this: think of this island as Mount Megiddo. Chew on that for a bit. Hehe." She spins around in the air, fading away.

"Oh, my name's Danielle, by the way. Welcome to hell." She fades completely, leaving you alone on the tree. The wind starts whistling louder than before. You didn't notice it before, but there is something like a falling star above the ships out on the ocean. You are almost shaken off your tree branch as just about thirty ships thump in unison, projectiles flying in the air.

Coming towards your island.

"Why thank you, Father! But you really shouldn't have, how am I to know she's proper for me?"

try to weasel my way out of wedlock. Some vibrations aren't as important as marriage.
Cecil G. Palmer
Your father seems to get the message. Well, almost.
"Ah. But she is proper! In fact, she is the heiress to the Magis kingdom! You see, I've organized it to where we will receive maximum profit from the business of the Magis. We shall expand our land, gain access to the volcano, and attain cheaper production costs! It's a perfect system, which is why you were volunteered for this!

Oh, and her name is Diana Crown!"

You don't even seem to hear or see the lights from the ships out on the ocean. All you hear is your own thoughts.

sit on a tree, look around
Alex Raman
You climb atop a tree and peer over the horizon. You think you can see some of the smoke from your village! Other than that, you can see the volcano, the ships, the projectiles flying from the ships, Aecrocia... wait. Projectiles? What are those ships doing?
You can see the volcano and a little depression on the side of it. Other than that, the landscape of Atis is pretty calm. It's only the ocean that is causing commotion.

((tl;dr: Tell everyone to get back to work. Continue being a blue-blood smartass.))
You chastise the workers for their inattention to the work. They get back to their computers and graphs and otherwise start their work again. You feel some small satisfaction at their return to the correct paths.
...however, it only works for a few minutes, as a bright light flares up from the ships, and the ocean begins a large wave, as a thumping sound escapes the fleet. Simultaneously, every one of the ships fires off their projectiles, which begin arcing in the direction of the island. The workers then proceed to look over each other's shoulders, wondering what is happening. Some begin murmuring among each other. You develop a slight headache as they have just disregarded your orders for some ships. Again.

Zip up backpack to keep kitty safe, then get up and walk to the window.
Cromwell Jackson
You zip up your backpack and the kitten mews inside. You try to walk to the window but your view is blocked by some of the other employees. The one man who was standing earlier approaches near you and mutters, "No. It can't be them. It can't be.. they've been gone for seventy years..."
As he finishes his sentence, the ground seems to shake as the ships shoot into the air, aiming for the islands of Atis. "No! Everyone, evacuate immediately!" He yells, as he runs himself. People begin screaming and pushing around you, your kitten complaining as it is pushed around inside.

"Do you think that wise? I'll get right on it, but I don't think our people will like it. And any survivors will make life difficult."

Go check what troops we have and what I know about the Aecrocians.
Diana Crown
"Mm. It might be a little unwise when you put it in a certain perspective. But, Aecrocia is now at their weakest. You see, I have manipulated a few certain... 'diplomatic' strings, which will make certain that they expose themselves fully and relax their defenses. Greed kills, you see, and the Aecrocians lack nothing in that category.

Oh, and that diplomacy does come at an expense. You are to marry a certain Aecrocian. After the marriage, we shall strike and it will be over quickly.

I shall take care of our people and the survivors. You need not to worry. Get to work. You will have three teams of two, including yourself, to direct and plant the explosives."

The Aecrocians live mostly in tall metal skyscrapers connected by metal bridges. The best way to strike would be to plant explosives on the foundation levels, making it easy to bring down the buildings. As for th-

Your thoughts are interrupted by the sound of multiple ships firing. You walk onto the terrace and find that a chorus of projectiles are flying straight towards the island.

Wonder. Then get back to work.

((Computers, huh. I was running on an assumption involving the middle ages. This is modern, then?))

"Warships?" The word was a whisper as the implications sunk in. War. Cities weren't just attacked by brigands, much less this well armed. This was a nation. Thousands would die, more wounded. Another glance at that plaque showed it still read Department of Health Services. "This is going to be so tedious."

Leave the building, disregard coworkers. Think back, where are the city's shelters? Go to the nearest one. There's probably a map to it. This is a government building, after all.
